WHY is ells leading off and gardner 2nd?
definitely bunt against Lewis. why wouldn't you?
Victor in CT : 7/24/2014 11:12 am : link
Fuck him. Through him off his game. What kind of crap is that? You move your whole infield to one side and the batter isn't allowed to take advantage? What a dooshbag. I wish there was no DH so this jerk would have to hit and get knocked on his candy ass.
Gardner and Ellsbury should start things off
Mad Mike : 7/24/2014 11:14 am : link
with back-to-back bunts.

Abso-fuckin-lutely. And do it toward the 1B line so they have a chance to run him over.
Glad Jeter is getting

the day off...he's been brutal offensively/defensively recently
our 3/4 hitters...
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/24/2014 11:18 am : link
Carlos Beltran DH ---- 87 OPS+ ---- $15M
Brian McCann 1B ----- 85 OPS+ ---- $17M

Embarrassing performance from the new guys. I understand New York takes some adjusting to but come on. These two guys are the key to our season. I'm praying they get it going soon enough.
half
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 11:24 am : link
of the top 6 guys going into the season in our lineup have been a train wreck. McCann is the real head scratcher, I expected Jeter to have a lousy year with the bat at age 40 and not having played much with the bat, I guess the Yankees didnt considering they havent moved him once out of the 2 hole, but it shouldnt surprise anyone. Beltran with his age cant really be shocked either that he is banged up. McCann is the real head scratcher
gotta win this
CruzShip52 : 7/24/2014 12:42 pm : link
keep rolling

keeeeeeeeep rolling into august

Pineda back sometime in august per cashmoneyman
I like Ellsbury leading off
RasputinPrime : 7/24/2014 12:48 pm : link
and Gardner hitting either 2nd or 6th.
gardner 6th? makes 0 sense
CruzShip52 : 7/24/2014 12:49 pm : link
dont tell me because he has 10 dingers

gardy is a typical 1-2 hitter, if not there 9
Jeter is what he is now
mfsd : 7/24/2014 12:56 pm : link
a .270 singles hitter. Girardi's in a tough spot - he has to drop him in the lineup, but how?
it's easy
Greg from LI : 7/24/2014 12:57 pm : link
Fill out a lineup card with the name "Jeter" in the seventh slot.
I really wish they'd just move on
Kyle in NY : 7/24/2014 1:49 pm : link

Jeter is fine. Quit yer bitchin.
BeerFridge : 7/24/2014 1:52 pm : link
.
they should
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 1:56 pm : link
have dropped Jeter in the lineup in spring training, get the media shit storm over with when the games don't count. Then if he played well you could move him up.

He's been a disaster at the plate in the 2 hole. About the most empty .270 you'll ever see. He had 13 extra base hits, thats pathetic.
Whatever Disaster he's been....
BeerFridge : 7/24/2014 2:02 pm : link
1) In terms of offensive WAR, he's third on the team.
2) Moving him in this lineup, with these shitty replacement choices for that spot, would make so little a difference to be meaningless.
Gardner
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 2:03 pm : link
and Ellsbury should hit 1-2 in the lineup, figure out the rest from there.
Lead off double and then
section125 : 7/24/2014 2:08 pm : link
two outs on two pitches...
Lead off double
Kyle in NY : 7/24/2014 2:09 pm : link
Beltran and McCann coming up, two pitches later, two outs, and Gardner is still standing on 2nd. Frustrating.

But Chase picks them up, nice.
Betances

Nice win...
Dunedin81 : 7/24/2014 3:56 pm : link
IDK if they're clicking or just playing bad opponents but a win is a win.
Texas definitely qualifies as a bad opponent
Greg from LI : 7/24/2014 3:58 pm : link
What the hell is a Rougned Odor?
Crap, another win.

I expected us to
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/24/2014 4:04 pm : link
lose 3 of 4 in this series, so I'm pleasantly surprised that the Yanks didn't fumble this chance. 6-1 since the break, keep it up. We all know this team is smoke and mirrors right now with the pitching staff and the hitting has been woefully underwhelming, but we're only 2.5 games out.

For all of his faults, this past year and half has made me appreciate Girardi. This team doesn't quit and he's a big reason why.
Girardi and the leadership
kmed : 7/24/2014 4:08 pm : link
has done great so far. This team doesn't realize they are supposed to suck. We will get a little healthier and hopefully the big bats will wake up when it matters most. Just keep winning.
I kinda feel like Kevin Long should join Kevin Gilbride
BeerFridge : 7/24/2014 4:10 pm : link
in the off-season.
solid gutsy win
RasputinPrime : 7/24/2014 4:13 pm : link
keep them coming.
You expected
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 4:17 pm : link
the yanks to lose 3 out of four to the worst team in the league? This team isnt any good but they are better than the Rangers.
Eh, I can't say I'm a huge fan of Long's
Greg from LI : 7/24/2014 4:28 pm : link
But, honestly, what does he have to work with on this roster?
you know the Yanks
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/24/2014 4:28 pm : link
they were coming off a really nice 3 game sweep of the Reds to get themselves 3 games over .500 after the break. I expected them to fuck this up somehow against an easy team like the Rangers. Back-to-back series wins and a 6-1 record out of the break? Did not see that coming.

But every time this team gets some cushion over the .500 mark, they tend to start losing again. We're 5 games above .500 now so I wouldn't be shocked if we went 3-6 over our next 3 series. It's just been the Yanks way this season. Hopefully they can finally get to 10 games above .500 this season but until then, I'll just keep expecting them to return to .500 and then go on a little streak to keep their heads above water.
The bullpen
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 4:33 pm : link
and Girardi are really what has kept this season together. Guys have stepped up in the rotation too. The offense continues to blow. Girardi has done a wonderful job but its not going to be enough to get into the playoffs if the offense doesnt pick it up, and at this point theres no real reason to believe the offense will pick it up.
Moved into a tie for the second wild card today
Phil in LA : 7/24/2014 5:00 pm : link
and they trade machine will keep going.
they just had an excruciating time scoring against three starters
Greg from LI : 7/24/2014 5:01 pm : link
with 6+ ERAs. That's not encouraging, even if the final scores were in our favor.
Mook the starting pitching has been great
CruzShip52 : 7/24/2014 5:02 pm : link
this year without 4 out of 5 starters

look at this rotation that has stepped up
I give Rothchild a lot of credit too
Dunedin81 : 7/24/2014 5:06 pm : link
...
no complaints
MookGiants : 7/24/2014 5:20 pm : link
about the way the starters have pitched with all the injuries. But its hard to expect this the rest of the way, and they likely aren't getting anyone back outside of maybe Pineda but I wouldnt hold my breath on him and who knows how he would even pitch after missing so much time last 3 years. From everything you hear about Tanaka it sounds like he's done for the year at a minimum, hopefully TJ surgery isnt needed but it doesnt sound good so far
We would have won a lot more games
Phil in LA : 7/24/2014 5:34 pm : link
a few years ago, if we could have dropped Phelps, Greene and Whitley into some of those brutal rotations.
Yanks acquired Capuano for cash
Dunedin81 : 7/24/2014 6:12 pm : link
His WHIP is atrocious this year but he could be a serviceable 5.
like getting capuano
sinctybldh : 7/24/2014 6:16 pm : link
only because it keeps the prospects in tact.
