Oakland was indeed shopping Cespedes and at one point would have picked up part of his contract for the right propsects . They were asking for Mauer Franklin and Vlad's nephew but then got cold feet given the Mariners resurgence in their division and the PR nightmare that would follow without getting a middle of the order guy or front line starter right away.
did an amazing job signing all these players currently on the team. With all the clauses and no-trade clauses involved with each of the players they want to move, it's making other teams wary of trying to trade players. Byrd has a vesting option for 2016 for $8 million plus a limited no-trade clause.

no trade clause has been waived to Seattle. Byrd is willing to go there.

Amaro is the worst GM in all of sports.
Funny thing is out of Lee, Burnett, Papelbon, Ruiz, Utley, Rollins, and Howard (btw has 118K in 371 at bats), Byrd is probably the easiest to move.
Its a shame. He was one of my favorite players ever, and he just fell off a cliff once he got hurt. His hips, legs, and feet look that of an 80 year old.
his splits have gotten worse as he has aged but they were always bad. He was always susceptible to a LOOGY and other than a few years of his prime was pretty useless against left-handed starters in general, which has made him a limited player for a long time.

Ehh not necessarily true:
2010: .260 average and .26 OPS with 12 HRs against lefties.
Starting in 2011 (ironically, the first year he started getting foot/leg problems) did he really start to go downhill. Once he ruptured his achilles, his career basically ended. Cause his problem isnt just against lefties this year, its against righties too. He cant hit at home (hitting .190), and is having a lot of trouble hitting a fastball.
1. They need a RH power bat.
2. You can fleece Amaro again.

Utley and rollins won't waive 10/5 rights.
No one wants Howard/Lee/ruiz.
Hamels you're going to offer the moon.

I've read somewhere that the Phillis are trying to give away Howard and nobody wants him. His contract is a monstrosity.
