Duda

rules.

Hey I'm very critical but credit Sandy, he identified Duda as the guy they preferred. Right move. Well done. #mets

But Ike just needs out of new york and Duda is too passive.

PS love Ron and Keith but they can STFU on a lot of topics.
Nimmo

3 for 5. Nice, hope he gets on a roll in AA.

of Vin Scully I wouldn't trade them for anyone but some of their old school opinions/"what worked for them" drives me insane. They were so hard on Duda "he's too patient". I bet they would hate on Votto too. Duda deserves props, he's been the best hitter they have.
Duda had to do very little to win me over
pjcas18 : 7/24/2014 10:54 pm : link
I couldn't stand Ike Davis so much.

He has exceeded my expectations.

It's like SS just needs to be average to slightly above average and I'll vastly overrate them after Tejada.

DanMetroMan : 7/24/2014 10:55 pm : link
for whatever the reason I never dug Ike Davis. Too much swing and miss, too many wasted ab's, too many excuses. I was concerned he would go somewhere and hit 30+ homers but I always preferred Duda.
I was wrong about Duda.
arcarsenal : 7/24/2014 10:58 pm : link
I thought they made the wrong choice because I thought Duda of the past couple years was just basically who he was. Sub .250 hitter, a little power.. not enough.. solid on base guy.. just a meh player. But he's been really good this year and if this is Luke going forward, I'll sign up for it in a heartbeat.
Yeah
pjcas18 : 7/24/2014 11:00 pm : link
the seemingly nonchalant approach at the plate, the flailing at pitches, clueless - no plan at the plate approach, the facial expressions, bringing into the field and making stupid errors and the FO leaks about him not listening to coaches and refusing to be sent down (not sure if true).

made me dislike Davis similar to tejada.

The only player I disliked irrationally was Justin Turner. No idea why, just hated him. Sounded like the coaches and players really liked him.

go look at what Turner is giving the Dodgers.
Mets going after Cargo??
ZGiants98 : 7/25/2014 8:10 am : link
From Mack's Mets. "I’m being told that the Mets are looking closely in the direction of Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzales.

The 28-year old’s numbers are way down this year (through Monday:
.253/.302/.452/.754, 217-AB, 9-HR, 34-RBI), hampered by a finger injury that placed him on the disabled list.

A major hang-up to any deal with the Mets would be the remaining salary committed to CarGo in his existing contract: $16.429mil/2015, $17.429/mil/2016, $20,429mil/2017, no team option. A considerable portion of this would have to be eaten by Colorado, something they might not have to do if they do a deal with another team.

My contact in the Colorado media says that Troy Tulowitzki is ‘going nowhere’ and, like David Wright, is the face of the franchise, but the Rockies will be sellers this/next week and a Gonzalez deal to the Mets for ‘primarily young pitching’ is ‘doable’.

For the Mets, CarGo would solve the outfield problem until prospects like Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo developed.

(This isn’t just the kind of deal a team would consider if they were trying to make the playoffs this year… there are only so many outfielders out there with this kind of talent that become available to other teams.)"

Also Rubin has a blurb today saying Sandy has called the Rockies and informed them he wants to be involved in any Cargo or Tulo deal.
I can definitely see us landing CarGo.
arcarsenal : 7/25/2014 8:29 am : link
I think that might be the move. Still locked up for 3 more years beyond this. Would be acquiring him at the same age we acquired Beltran back in 2005 so we could potentially get those prime years if the down year he's having right now is more of an outlier. His splits concern me a litttttttle but but the cost (although high) probably won't be insane.
Prospect wise it would take less to get
cminetti5 : 7/25/2014 8:55 am : link
Cargo than Tulo I am assuming. What do you think it will take?
Gonzalez's numbers away from Colorado
steve in ky : 7/25/2014 9:20 am : link
Are considerably less impressive than at home. I am always leery of getting a player from there with those inflated numbers.
I'd be fine adding Gonzalez, but wouldn't give up a ton
Eric on Li : 7/25/2014 9:30 am : link
Maybe Montero & Plawecki or Flores, with Colorado chipping in a little cash?Main issue obviously being the injuries, home/road splits, and the fact that he's far from a sure thing with only one 100 rbi season.

That said he's won a few GG's in LF and would hopefully hit around .300 with 20 hrs. Add him and a capable SS and this lineup's looking a lot better.
Are the Wilpons raising the payroll to add Cargo?
NyquistX3 : 7/25/2014 9:41 am : link
?
I doubt he would hit .300
steve in ky : 7/25/2014 9:47 am : link
His lifetime average away from home is .260 with an OPS of .758

In his eleven games at Citi field his average at Citi field is .132 with an OPS of .469

They only have so much surplus pitching. I hope they use it wisely when trading for that missing piece in the IF.
Almost
Metnut : 7/25/2014 9:49 am : link
all players hit better at home than on the road. Just takin his road numbers isn't really going to give us an idea what to expect.
True
steve in ky : 7/25/2014 9:53 am : link
But the home numbers in Colorado IMO are a little inflated and you can't look just at them either. Again I just am leery about them and if he would be the right fit to spend their trading chips to acquire.
IMO
steve in ky : 7/25/2014 9:55 am : link
I would rather they over pay a little for a guy like Stanton, then try and get a deal on an underperforming Gonzales and hoping for him to have a resurgence in NY.
I wouldn't dare touch
Rflairr : 7/25/2014 10:02 am : link
Any hitter out of Colorado and put them in this ballpark. Especially if it's going to cost the team really good prospects. Just don't see it working for this team.

In the case Cargo, when has taking an injury prone player ever worked out for the Mets?

Now I would FL let pick anyone they want for GinCarlo
.
arcarsenal : 7/25/2014 10:11 am : link
I think Stanton is a pipe dream.

The only reason I think CarGo could be a fit is because he may not cost the moon and the talent is there and he's also still 28 years old. You're going to get injury concerns with both Tulo and CarGo. I think Tulo will cost considerably more to acquire, though.
In 48 career ABs in Citi Field
EmpireWF : 7/25/2014 10:12 am : link
Tulowitzki is batting .438/.534/.833 with 5 HR, 2 2B, 1 3B

He's one of the best in the game, regardless of the #s above. The only reason you'd be hesitant to get him is health and nothing to do with home/road splits.
Two downsides to being a hitter on the Rockies
Shecky : 7/25/2014 10:17 am : link
1- everyone will always discount your offense. Not only because of playing half your games in rarefied air. But because your home road splits will always be huge. Boost at home, but people never factor in that you play your division games in pitcher parks. SF, LA, and SD. So your road numbers should be lower, when a major number of road games are in pitchers parks playing pitching rich teams.

2- injury concerns. Just a theory of mine, but Rockies players always seem to come with injury concerns. Nagging injuries that cause them to miss a bunch of games a year. My theory - that rarified air. Less oxygen, body takes longer to recover. I don't know if it exists, but I would be very curious to see if a study was ever down on all sports franchise in higher altitudes - do they tend to have more tanning injury issues?
trading for Cargo would be a bad move
oipolloi : 7/25/2014 10:19 am : link
every time a guy's numbers decline, they always claim it is because of injury

in some cases it might be. but it is a universal excuse and anyone trading for Cargo with the expectation that this is just an off year and he will bounce back completely is chasing fool's gold

Cargo should be strictly a salary dump. At Citi, he is likely a .250/20 HR guy.
Why aren't Broncos
pjcas18 : 7/25/2014 10:21 am : link
Avalanche or Nuggets players more injured than their pro counterparts compared to players on the Rockies?

Theory de-bunked.

CarGo might not be bad even with a decline in production depending on who they trade. and if COL eats salary.

trading for cargo
sshin05 : 7/25/2014 10:31 am : link
isn't so bad, his value is way down and you can bring up the home/road splits and injury concerns and all that to drive his value down further even if colorado threw in some money, you probably dont have to give them too much for him.

Cargo had a tumor with tentacles growing in his finger this year. His injury excuse is valid. Last season his numbers were incredible.

He's always banged up, though, so the Mets will need to make sure they have a capable fourth outfielder to back him up for when he gets hurt.
question for everyone

I honestly wouldn't think it would cost the moon for him. Montero, Plawecki + a little more maybe? I don't know. Just throwing shit out there but I think we could get CarGo without needing to include Syndergaard, Wheeler or deGrom.

Turner's been great for the Dodgers. Looks like we kept the wrong shortstop. lol
I still prefer Dickerson over CarGo
Shecky : 7/25/2014 10:44 am : link
Cost less in trade and less $$$. Three way with Baltimore or. Giants. Murphy to Giants/Baltimore, good pitching prospect to the Rockies, Dickerson to the Mets. Flores plays 2B to replace Murphy. He either works out, or is a bridge to Herrera/Reynolds.

Cargo would be our current Kevin McReynolds. Boring, great D in LF and consistent 280 25HR 90 R 90 RBI 20 SB. Good player who the fans will always want more from, but looking back will say he was a good player and worth trading for.
.
arcarsenal : 7/25/2014 10:45 am : link
Turner is just a part time guy there. Solid bench player I guess but I shared an irrational hatred of him with pj. Just didn't like him at all. No real reason. I just don't think he's very good. I guess he's having a nice year but eh.. I doubt he's still hitting .300 come September.
Turner/Cowgill
Shecky : 7/25/2014 11:16 am : link
I like Alderson a lot, and I absolutely despise Collins as a manager. But it's the small roster moves that alderson was supposed to excel at. And there are very few bit players he has brought in to build this team. And dumping Cowgill and Turner for nothing is really disappointing.

But I think this is more damning of Collins. He doesn't know how to use players. He doesn't know how to maximize players strengths and minimize their weaknesses. Those guys aren't foundation players, but valuable "glue" pieces. I haven't checked their WAR, but I'd venture to guess both guys would be top 3-5 Mets this year, and at penny sized contracts.
Turner: 2.1 WAR
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/25/2014 11:19 am : link

Turner is getting the majority of his time at 3B in LA. He wouldn't here. If he was primarily playing SS here, his dWAR would be in the negatives like it was pretty much every other year of his career.
That made me check Cowgill

Turner's play
pjcas18 : 7/25/2014 6:13 pm : link
was only partly why I hated him. He wasn't like an Abreu where you can say "break glass when you need a walk" or something like that.

He was below average at everything.

and (irrationally; I know) I thought he was a jerk
