ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Yankees and Padres are discussing a trade that would send Ian Kennedy to New York in exchange for third base prospect Eric Jagielo and pitching prospect Ian Clarkin. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says that the Yankees are indeed interested in Kennedy but not if it means giving up both Jagielo and Clarkin. It would be Kennedy's second stint in New York if the trade did go through, as he was drafted by the Yanks and spent his first three big league seasons there. Needless to say, it would be just about the worse-case scenario for his fantasy value going from Petco Park to Yankee Stadium. Kennedy is making $6.1 million this season and is eligible for arbitration for a final time this winter. |

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Yankees are in talks with the Rockies regarding Jorge De La Rosa. It's clear that the Bombers aren't done adding pitching after the additions of Brandon McCarthy and Chris Capuano, as Bowden has linked them to Ian Kennedy and now to De La Rosa. The Rockies left-hander has a pedestrian 4.19 ERA this season but boasts a 1.78 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in three July starts. |

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Rangers, Astros, Cubs, Braves, Giants, White Sox, Orioles and Marlins are among the teams that will be at Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo workout on Saturday. Heyman says there is a "fair amount of excitement over the showcase" for a player he's been told is like "Brett Gardner with power." Castillo, 27, could conceivably be ready to play in the majors during the second half, though it will be a while before we know whether that's a realistic expectation. |
Cervelli is apparently drawing interesting from several teams. I'd almost be surprised not to see him or Murphy dealt in the next week.
Meanwhile Marlon Bird is ripe for the picking. And Refsnyder, who is tearing the cover off the ball rots down at Triple A Scranton. This reluctance is all on the name of Carlos Beltran.
Now Beltran has recovered to be only below average this month instead of a fucking disaster, as he was the last couple months, but they could conceivably place him on the 60-man. I'm not sure that's the best move, but they've got him for two more years and it might make sense to give him the recovery time and hope for better next year.
It essentially backs up what CBS Sports' Jon Heyman said, as Heyman noted Thursday night that while the Yanks like Kennedy, they're not prepared to give up both third base prospect Eric Jagielo and pitching prospect Ian Clarkin for him. That was the proposed package that ESPN's Jim Bowden reported, but it would be a steep price given that they were the Yankees' two first-round picks last season. San Diego is listening on Kennedy, but he's under control next season so they don't feel obligated to move him now.
that's the kind of poor knee jerk reaction the Yanks have made in the past...
Not without adding him to that 40-man, which is the problem. If they add anyone it would probably be one of the guys who will be a Rule 5 decision anyway, like Danny Burawa.
This team is 3 games out in the division and in a wild card spot. Just keep winning, hope to peak at the end and get healthier. You add Tanaka(obviously a ???) and Pineda to a staff and your middle of the order hits like they should and you never know.
One of the articles I read said "Brett Gardner with power" which seems pretty optimistic for a 27-year old. Doesn't mean he isn't worth signing, but Brett Gardner with power is a perennial All Star and this is a kid most of us have barely heard about.
Jagielo is no loss? Really?
How the hell is Jagielo no loss already? Give him some time to determine that, not a few months
I don't see how they can trade Cervelli or Murphy while it is a real possibility Teixeira is on the shelf again. McCann has been manning 1B, which has not been a terrible solution.
