I hope he gets his life together. He cleaned up some portions of his act and that was very positive, but he couldn't lay off the weed and after he failed a drug test for the umpteenth time they cut him.
I was making fun of the Ravens, who generally deserve the scorn for the parade of great citizens that are or have been a part of the organization.
New set of friends away from home(Jersey City) He'll be a top safety in this league over the next 4 years or so. Hes out this year. If he can just stop smoking pot, which is easy, no physical withdrawal symptoms, he will be a playmaking safety. I understand the Giants had to bag him after all his mistakes. But if, its a big if, one that will probably come true, he will be balling if he keeps a straight head. People put all the credit on Beason saving the Giant's defense last year, but I give as much credit to Hill. He plays sideline to sideline 100 percent. I would take the risk if I was a GM, get him away from his friends, have a vet shadow him, etc.
Or it could be a flop. But being the way it is, he will probably be returning a pick 6 against us next time we play him. Giants luck
wow arent't we all glad the giants are such an honorable, first class organization, cutting the best player on our defense because he smokes the devil's plant?
he's so f#cking good people will keep giving him chances. he isnt just a pothead who is getting his balls busted about weed, he is truly a low-life. lots of guys on the team blaze, its not about that

This is gonna screw us.
They cut him because his stupid ass can't stay on the field and is facing a yearlong suspension the next time he fails a drug test.
...an organization noted for the support it provides to players, why would he suddenly change when he goes to an loose franchise that currently is seeing a spate of arrests?
Him changing has nothing to do with the org and everything to do about himself.
To say with certainty he won't turn things around is about as silly as saying with certainty that he will haunt the Giants.
they cut him because his ostensible addiction (to a plant that plenty of the MJ-philes in our midst insist isn't addictive) was keeping him off the field, and because they couldn't rely on him to stay on the field when he is a backslide away from a year-long suspension. This isn't the prudery of the FO at work. This was a business decision and, painful though it is and likely will be, the right one.

I understand that.
So cut him if/when he's suspended for a year. He was dirt cheap. Why pre-emptively cut him?

Once someone needs more than, say, a third chance, I think it's an exceedingly good possibility that said person is not going to change their life anytime soon.
to bury him on the depth chart and let guys get reps ahead of him then see what the best option is week 7. And if he fails a test again its a year suspension and then you cut him.
Nothing could come of it but if injuries make safety extremely thin and not very talented this season it will look like a terrible decision in hindsight

They told him no more second chances. They actually gave him another second chance. Your ultimatums become less believable the more you ignore them. He had ample opportunity to succeed here long-term and failed. Hopefully he will have better luck as a Raven.
I do understand the decision and why they made it.
(if I may), I think he is saying that it was a mistake for the Giants to issue the ultimatum to Hill in the first place. I agree that if you issue the ultimatum, you need to follow through on it.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the ultimatum. They take fliers on troubled players on a regular basis, and it really worked out with Will Hill. But the next guy who comes along under a similar cloud, whether or not he has Will Hill's talent level, needs to know that they're serious when they say A second chance.
Like I said before, the Giants just had no choice here. It's unfortunate because I still think there's a chance he turns it around and has an awesome carer. But you really can't fault NYG at all. They did all they could to accommodate this guy. At some point, you have to put your foot down.
RE: Being cut could be the kick in the ass he needed
Not getting drafted didn't seem to help. Nor his last suspension. Wasted ability which is sadly not uncommon. Maybe he turns it around but I don't think he gets it.
Thank you. Let's see if we can follow Hill's timeline...
Character problems and marijuana kept him from being drafted by ALL 32 NFL teams.
Giants give him a chance.
PED suspension in 2012.
Giants don't like it, but give him another chance.
4 game suspension for weed in 2013
Giants still don't like it, but give him another chance.
6 game suspension for weed in 2014.
The end.
Yet some folks, blinded by talent, still wanted the Giants to give him another chance after they already gave him THREE and he still couldn't show the teams some respect and keep himself on the straight? Really?
Some people will think it wasn't the right move to cut such a talented player who actually got off a tad easy with only six games as opposed to a full season.
Some people think it would greatly impact the organization's credibility with its players and personnel by letting someone fuck up over and over again and not have any consequences.
Neither answer is wrong. These are opinions, folks.
Its not the weed, he has a history of destructive behavior
He kept at it until he got suspended again, this time for 8 games. At some point you just get fed up with it. As pointed out, the next stop is a 1 year suspension. If he didn't stop at 1/2 a year what confidence is there that he would stop now? No matter how good he is physically, if he isn't on the field it doesn't help.
Isn't physically addictive, that's the argument I normally see. It's closer to gambling and shopping addiction than heroin or nicotine and their chemical dependency.
"Some drugs are very physically and psychologically addictive and have obvious, terrible withdrawal symptoms. These are easy to identify, such as heroin, barbiturates or alcohol. Others like marijuana are psychologically addictive, and the withdrawal includes psychological symptoms like anxiety, mood swings and depression. "
When asked if he's done with marijuana, Hill replied: "Everything is behind me."
"Good football player, got a chance to get to know him, I like where his head's at this time right now," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "So, we'll see how he does."

I hope so for the kid's sake, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think he'll ever get it. Too bad because he is a force on the field. But just when he is making an real impact he fucks up again. Sad
him. He's been suspended for marijuana and adderall, not exactly america's most wanted.
He'll probably join the Ravens after the 6 game suspension do well and then be suspended for 1 year/indefinitely in the off-season after his next incident.
Low risk for the Ravens, the Giants could no longer rely on him and the Ravens are planning it like they don't have to.
Not sure why the butthurt feelings, the regrets, or the surprise.
that he deserves sympathy because it's an addiction. And you have other people saying that not only is it not addictive but it cures hemorrhoids and smooths out your skin. Well what is it? Is it an addiction or is he an idiot? There are of course some middle grounds (compulsion/mental problems, for one) but at least one of those assertions would seem to be wrong.

It's not about being kind to Will Hill. It's about having one of the best safeties in football for the last ten games.
get why the giants parted ways, but given how he played last year, it really sucks that it ended up that way. time will tell whether he gets his act together or hangs out with bubbles in hamsterdam.

Phil was right on with his post..
Ive liked will hill since he was in college, giants took a gamble and it was a pleasure to watch him every game just dominating the game

And this little thing called "science". You should check it out.
Condescension from potheads. I will cry myself to sleep tonight.
No, but he has shown an addiction to stupidity that he can't seem to kick.

He's probably a complete douchebag though, so as fans at least we get the satisfaction of knowing that.
Nice rental history, Will.
