One thing I won't do, however, is say this man took a paycut or hometown discount. One of the poster's on here nailed what he was going to do. I think it was DanMetroMan. That he would take a few million less just so he can wash his hands and say "It's ok, I'm not greedy. I took a discount.".

Chicago was an awfully attractive option. Aside from dragging it out an extra day or two, I didn't have any issues with how Melo handled the situation. He was honest about it from the start of last season. Overall he's been a good soldier here - played well, played through injuries when possible, even stuck up for Woodson when the rest of the team was stabbing him in the back. Of course he may have run D'Antoni out of town, but I can hardly blame him.

He took 5 million less total off a 129 million dollar deal. He did it so he doesn't look greedy by taking the absolute max. Sure, I bet it helps the team somewhat. But I fully believe he took 5 million less for himself more than anything else.
