Is it just that people want Manziel to act 35 more than they wanted the other QBs to act that age? That seems arbitrary.
Luck's father played in the NFL and was AD at West Virginia. He (the father) also graduated summa cum laude with a 3.95 GPA at WVU. Eli had Archie and Peyton. Manziel doesn't have that kind on mentoring system in place.
or make millions....To compare him to other kids at that age is ridiculous.
You have to grow up faster and be more mature or the media will run you over. He brings more baggage than most so he better make football his top priority....
he's doing coke than test him. Seems pretty easy to me.
The article made it sound like it's standard protocol to test a player after photos (or other evidence) like that appears. So they very well might have.

The media has been trying to run him over for 2+ years now. He might handle them unconventionally, but so far they haven't affected his on-field performance (i.e. what he's getting paid for).
You think Johnny Manziel is the first player to ever do this? The only reason it's a story is because of Instagram and Twitter.
Brett Favre was a notorious party boy in his collegiate and early NFL days. It didn't seem to effect him too much as a player.
The guy isn't even a guaranteed starting QB and people fall all over themselves with every move he makes. This is Tim Tebow all over again, except Manziel is the devil to Tebow's angel.
But the guy has been doing this for a while now and has been pretty damn successful. Some people aren't effected by the partying. Not to mention it was the offseason. I doubt it will be the same during the regular season. He isn't a stupid person. He will know when it is time to party and when it is time to be serious. The Browns need Gordon back, but if that guy can get his life straight and they can get one more weapon on the other side I think Manziel is going to be really good. The Browns have a great Oline, solid RB, very good TE and great WR if he is there.
All this news coming out of how the Browns are basically surprised by his partying? How dumb can you be. This is nothing new.
He will get suspended if he's using drugs which are traceable to start with. Lots of naive folks here that think Manziel's actions thus far are no big deal. May not be but it isn't looking great so far.
stays in one's system very long after having ingested it. Testing for that sort of substance abuse may be troublesome.
it stays in a person's system for about 24-48 hours. so yeah, it's a bit tricky to catch someone who hasn't already been caught. that said, if he finds himself in the NFL substance abuse program, he's in for a rude awakening.
the point is he's being paid now. If he thought he needed more time to fulfill his professional duty, maybe he should have stayed another year in college.
And btw, not everyone acts like an obnoxious douchebag at 21.
And Chris for the win!

the average 21 YO comes from his acceptance of the responsibilities implied in the contract he signed ie that he would perform at a high level as a pro quarterback. That ability would be beyond the average 21 YO.
If he wants to act like the average 21 YO, let him go to work for Wal-mart.
Having said that, I see that first indications from the Browns camp (as noted above) are that he is honoring that responsibility. I hope for his sake he continues.
and the Browns are concerned. Do their thoughts matter? Or should we just tell them to let him be a kid too? Never mind the assurances that he made to them before they made a multi million dollar commitment to him. Link - ( New Window )
Reminds me of the Peyton Manning/Ryan Leaf scenario
with the Colts. They asked both prospects what they would do if they were selected #1. Manning said he would want to meet with his coaches and maybe work with his receivers. Leaf stated that he would take some friends to Las Vegas.
I think the Browns' security people should keep very close tabs on JM and he should be made to realize that this once-storied franchise is counting on him to do the right things.
If he's not hurting other people, let him live his life as he chooses. In terms of it affecting his potential in the NFL? It can, doesn't mean it will. I know plenty of hard partying types that are very successful, sometimes it's that type of wiring in their brain that makes them successful in the first place. Regardless, it's his life to fuck up, enjoy him on the field, because he's entertaining as hell to watch.
The NFL is a tough league where every player is a "superstar"
I personally don't believe any player, no matter how talented, can succeed without 100% dedication to the job. In fact, I think in a lot of cases this is the differentiating factor in a player making it or not. Whether Manziel pulls it off or not is not the real issue to me, its why spend a 1st round pick on a guy doesn't commit like others. He already has a major problem to overcome.
said at one point he was "just having fun" too. Point is there is a lot of responsibility in Manziel's position. He doesn't need to be a choir boy, but hopefully he understands the position he is in.
So, what does it mean to have dollar bills rolled up and pictures taken of this? It set off alarms where other things didn't, so I'm guessing it is something significant (in a bad way) about this behavior. Educate me, please.
This place is going to shit! Keep focusing on what's important...
And manziel was clearly about to snort cocaine or some other powder with that dollar bill. The only person he's putting at risk is himself. He's not hitting his girlfriend, driving drunk, etc. Dan Marino was allegedly a huge cokehead early on and managed to carve out a decent career. Manziel is 21, he has time to mature. The outrage that a young guy with some free time and disposable income is out there "partying" after landing his dream job is confusing to me.
You swung and missed again. It had nothing to do with spelling, and everything to do with you clearly exaggerating the reaction to Manziel. Nobody is teeth gnashing, or whatever the hell expression you used. Some people are put off by his antics. Or the fact that he's always got to be on the front pages. Others have expressed concern about whether or not he needs to change his habits to be successful. Hell, his own team has expressed these concerns.
I like Manziel, but the non stop need for attention is a bit annoying. And it is absolutely about the attention, otherwise we wouldn't be seeing his ugly mug on social media every second of every day. Plenty of celebrities go out and party. Including football players. Is it so hard to be quiet about it? To me, it's a minor nuisance, it doesn't make him a bad guy. But if he does things like this, he will be criticized in the media. It is what it is.
At any rate, this topic is overplayed. I can't believe I even wasted more time on it, honestly. If his defenders still can't understand what the criticism is about, there's no sense discussing anymore. They'll simply go on calling the other side of the debate angry, old, jealous, and a million other names that they've thrown around.
I'm sorry I missed the depth in your contribution.
This is the most I've ever invested in this topic, my issue has more to do with the lack of perspective than with Manziel himself. And the thought that he could somehow keep this part of his life quiet is ridiculous considering who he is and the day we live in.
I'm sorry if outraged offended you. Whatever word floats your boat, point being, let's not judge every little thing the guy does until we see him on Sundays.

Plenty of celebrities go out every weekend. But we never hear about it. The problem is, it's usually him and his buddies doing the video work. Or it's somebody in the club that he is fully aware of. That's the point, he simply needs to be more discreet, but he loves the attention. That's what is driving this.
he's the one starring in all these videos, and again, it's people that he knows posting it. It's not Sal Palantonio stalking around looking for dirt at the club. I don't see Anderson Cooper going undercover into these exclusive clubs to get a shot of Johnny Manziel. This stuff is all hand delivered
People with cell phone cameras trying to sell shit to tmz and deadspin? Anything coming directly from him or his circle strikes me more like a not so subtle middle finger to those criticizing him for petty things like partying with gronk in vegas during the offseason. I think he'll put a cap on his need to vent.
Well that's why some people have an issue with him
we were all that 21 year old at one point. Thought we knew everything. He's not gonna win by putting up his middle finger. Some people think that's cool. Others find it immature. That's why this is such a debate. And that's why he should be more careful with what he does in public, if he doesn't want to deal with the consequences. It's not that difficult, really. He says he doesn't care, but the pressure will likely crush him, so he might want to start caring.
He's expressing himself the only way he can. Like I said, I think he'll start to realize he's making the scrutiny worse by doing this, but I can see his need to blow off steam.
He's flipping everyone off with his actions, but he's not winning that game. I know the popular sentiment around here is "he's only 21". Well, a "company" just invested millions in him, and in life, not everybody gets to be a "21 year old" fairly or not. I was in the military when I was 21. I didn't get to be that guy, either. Some people have to grow up sooner than others, that's just the facts of life

Plenty of famous people go out, have fun, and you never hear about it nor are they douche bags.
I don't think he parties too much
Having said that, I think this is going to be a problem and not a problem
at then end of the day, who gives a shit anyway...

he'll get injured soon
