Sources said Manziel looked sharp on his first day of practice Thursday and had a good grasp of the plays being run, a sign that he's had his nose in the playbook.
All the teeth-gnashing about a bunch of stuff that's already been reported, there's this conclusion to the article:

"People will see how hard Johnny works once this thing gets rolling,'' said a source. "He'll get more mature as he goes along. He's 21 and people want him to be 35. I would not count him out.''
I want this guy to light the league on fire so bad so that all of these holier-than-thou shitheads who act like they were never 21 years old before can kindly clamp it.
May as well ring the dinner bell for Randy and me...
Manziel will party in his down time, the media will publicize when he does so, and he will handle the responsibilities of his profession when it is appropriate. As he has always done. I'd wager that nearly every other younger NFL athlete will do the same albeit without the fanfare that leads us to read about their exploits.
Prior to his sophomore season at A&M there was talk that his "persona" would detract from his performance and create a wedge between him and the team. He responded by coming into camp better than ever and impressing his teammates and coaching staff to a shocking extent. To date, it seems as if he has done the same in Cleveland.
The sooner football fanatics realize that professional athletes, much like ourselves, have lives outside of football that they can effectively balance while remaining at the pinnacle of their profession the better.

Yes its exactly the same to be 21 getting paid millions to be a professional QB and to be regular 21 year old.
If Manziel wants to dick around like a normal 21 year old, he can. Don't expect to do it while being paid millions to be the face of a franchise and not expect scrutiny.
the point is he's being paid now. If he thought he needed more time to fulfill his professional duty, maybe he should have stayed another year in college.
And btw, not everyone acts like an obnoxious douchebag at 21.
It also took Stabler until he was 28 to become a starting QB
The competition had something to do with it...but he also quit briefly at one point...
"Stabler was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the 1968 draft (52nd over all). After quitting briefly in frustration, he returned to Oakland in 1970. Stabler waited his turn behind Daryle Lamonica and George Blanda until becoming the starter in 1973, the year he turned 28."
And if he does his job on the football field, what he's getting paid will be a completely worthwhile investment.
You (and others) not approving of his off-field behavior has nothing to do with his NFL contract until it starts impacting his play on the field. That has not happened yet. Let me know when it does.
I hope he scrambles in for a touchdown then snorts the goal line
Is it just that people want Manziel to act 35 more than they wanted the other QBs to act that age? That seems arbitrary.
Luck's father played in the NFL and was AD at West Virginia. He (the father) also graduated summa cum laude with a 3.95 GPA at WVU. Eli had Archie and Peyton. Manziel doesn't have that kind on mentoring system in place.
or make millions....To compare him to other kids at that age is ridiculous.
You have to grow up faster and be more mature or the media will run you over. He brings more baggage than most so he better make football his top priority....
he's doing coke than test him. Seems pretty easy to me.
The article made it sound like it's standard protocol to test a player after photos (or other evidence) like that appears. So they very well might have.

The media has been trying to run him over for 2+ years now. He might handle them unconventionally, but so far they haven't affected his on-field performance (i.e. what he's getting paid for).
You think Johnny Manziel is the first player to ever do this? The only reason it's a story is because of Instagram and Twitter.
Brett Favre was a notorious party boy in his collegiate and early NFL days. It didn't seem to effect him too much as a player.
The guy isn't even a guaranteed starting QB and people fall all over themselves with every move he makes. This is Tim Tebow all over again, except Manziel is the devil to Tebow's angel.
But the guy has been doing this for a while now and has been pretty damn successful. Some people aren't effected by the partying. Not to mention it was the offseason. I doubt it will be the same during the regular season. He isn't a stupid person. He will know when it is time to party and when it is time to be serious. The Browns need Gordon back, but if that guy can get his life straight and they can get one more weapon on the other side I think Manziel is going to be really good. The Browns have a great Oline, solid RB, very good TE and great WR if he is there.
All this news coming out of how the Browns are basically surprised by his partying? How dumb can you be. This is nothing new.
He will get suspended if he's using drugs which are traceable to start with. Lots of naive folks here that think Manziel's actions thus far are no big deal. May not be but it isn't looking great so far.

Arc for the win!

Well, yeah, and to not be snorting coke.
He's just having fun! lol
Some young guys are quieter and more serious than others. Film at 11.
Ken Stabler frequently joked about reading his playbook by the light of a jukebox in a bar. He was a pretty good QB, wouldn't you say?
Rich, is that you?

What a novel concept!

The expectations for Manziel are higher.

He's a young, rich kid enjoying being a young, rich kid.
this.
That would be an epic troll. Really hope he does it.
That picture is pretty alarming and they do need to keep a watch on that.

Too many honky-tonk women.

I can't believe he's still alive.

Plenty of famous people go out, have fun, and you never hear about it nor are they douche bags.
I don't think he parties too much
Having said that, I think this is going to be a problem and not a problem
at then end of the day, who gives a shit anyway...
Hey it's football news, so I care -
