Zack Martin would have been a better pick for the Giants than Donald.
I still feel Martin would be a fine Tackle on either side. Some scouts have already said he is likely to be better than Justin Pugh and I think Pugh is pretty good.
You can feel what you want. So can "some scouts". "Some scouts regarded Kelcy Quarles pretty highly, but no team bothered to draft him. The proff of the pudding is that Martin is playing Guard, not Tackle. Guess everyone's wrong but you though.

You can be narrow sighted all you want, but Martin can play either tackle or guard. The team that chose him placed him at guard (they have two starting tackles). At position where those same scouts (feel free to go the archives and read the reports posted on BBI) said he has perennial All Pro potential or at tackle where he'd be at Justin Pugh's level or better.
I know Donald rates out well. The point is Martin would have had a bigger impact on the Giants long term than Donald. Think not? Look at what happened to Linval Joseph and William Beatty. Joseph is gone, Beatty is still in blue.
Let's see how effective is he when the hitting starts.....don't get me wrong I liked him too.....but very happy with our choice..if he gets on the field
That the Giants didn't draft a guy you wanted them to, or making your case that the Giants would have been better off drafting said guy (even though the draft is over and what's done is done).
Where it goes off the rails for me, though, is all of the ridiculous Beckham-bashing. It's July 27 and some of you have him done for the year already. Don't you think that's a little premature? I do.
and giving him a chance to prove he can be a force. It is way early to be talking about other would be picks. I did not want him and was angry about the pick too. I feel the Giants replaced Cruz perfectly when the 'need' was to replace Nicks.
I am hoping Smurphy McHammy proves me wrong and starts on opening day and makes plays all year. But I would feel alot better if he were on the field now.

BBI has a way of making me root against players that I otherwise like. I like Donald, and he was my pick as well, but he wasn't. Time to move on. All these "I told you so" types that are going to pollute this site all year every time Donald makes a tackle or Beckham struggles are going to make it difficult to visit this site. If not impossible. So, I will find myself subconsciously hoping for Donald to struggle, for the simple reason that I won't be able to tolerate the arm chair quarterbacks calling for Reese's head, or those same clowns trying to run OBJ out of town if he doesn't make the Pro Bowl in year one. And that's unfortunate.
Donald in the first, Robinson in the second. It didn't work out that way so now I'm rooting that the Giants' picks are gloriously productive this year. But I do expect Donald to be great.
...I don't have a clue if Beckham is gonna miss 3 weeks or 3 months.
But that's hardly the point.
Pun intended when I say this team may have hamstrung itself by not devoting more to the O-line in this last draft, and that means Martin.
WR was not our number one problem last season. Not even close.
Can we keep Eli upright? Can we keep Eli from getting the jitters? Will we have a pocket for him to step up into? Will he chuck and duck all year long?
Dunno.
But Odell Beckham ain't gonna answer any of these questions, hammy or no hammy.
You gotta wait until they start hitting to judge him
He's always gonna look great with no pads on due to his speed and quickness - can he look great when it really counts though? I think yes, but we don't know yet.
2011 showed us what Eli could do with studs at WRs. The offensive
Jerry job is in danger with this draft. Have to believe that this will be Jerry last bad draft and that the Giants owners will fire Jerry at the end of this season. YES, this was a bad draft and now we have to live with the results. Yes, Donald should have been the Giants first pick!
Zack Martin would have been a better pick for the Giants than Donald.
I still feel Martin would be a fine Tackle on either side. Some scouts have already said he is likely to be better than Justin Pugh and I think Pugh is pretty good.

First of all, I never supported Donald as the pic (look to the archives yourself).
Second, the scouts are wrong more than right, not because they don't know their job, but because there are far too many variables to be able to accurately forecast how a particular player will perform within a particular organization, at a particular position.
Your view is far more exclusionary than mine because it depends to a large degree on personal preference not backed up by reality and more than a modicum of magical thinking.
All this, combined with the fact that we're going into the second week of camp. The unknowns far outweigh the knowns except for where the players who are being discussed have been slotted by their respectibe teams.
so I will be following his career. I think he would have been a great addition to the OL. With Snee retiring, it would have been a good fit. Plus his versatility could have used to tackle as well.
...I don't have a clue if Beckham is gonna miss 3 weeks or 3 months.
But that's hardly the point.

This team was in dire need of play makers on the outside
Furthermore did we or did we not address the O line in free agency and with our 2nd rd pick?
Beckham was a solid selection. His skill set is special. We will not regret the pick. Our QB and the combination of Cruz, Randle, Beckham, David Wilson, Jennings, Andre and our revamped OL has me eager with anticipation for what this could become.
Our defense is also well staffed.
On draft day I root for them to take certain players
If they select a player over someone I else I was hoping for I sometimes take until their next pick to get over it. By the time the draft is over they are all Giants and that is all I care about. No point in looking back and asking, what if.
We know so little about any of these guys right now. We're in camp, so the evaluation process has started, but it is so early. In the practices I attended in camp last year, and I attended about four, the TEs impressed. The point is, you can either waste a lot of time worrying about meaningless crap or what's in the past and done rather than moving on, or you can get a realistic perspective and take things in stride. A game into the season we may not know what this roster has, much less the first week of camp, and the rookies in some cases you may not know for another year or so. To begin rendering judgement at this point is exceedengly unfair and unrealistic.
How do any of you claiming we made a mistake taking OB one week into camp in their rookie year, an actual fan of the sport? It is such an asinine claim to make right now that the only ones who would make it lack any real sense of understanding of the game.
RE: It's tough to read these articles about who the Giants could have had

fan and hoped they'd pick him....that said, I'm very pleased with the ODB pick and looking forward to seeing him take off in Blue!!
While I'd love to see him on the field right now, I'm not going to get my panties all in a bunch because he has a strained hammy and Donald looks good in one on one drills w/out pads....seriously, relax a bit and enjoy the ride, bumps and all.
but OBJ definitely was a pick at a position of need. Eli has 3-5 top solid years left.. He needs weapons to perform... I have no issue with the OBJ pick. I believe he will be a fine player.. if he can become a Greg Jennings type in this offense I would say we have hit a home run..
Further, by now it should be clear NYG puts a higher value on playmakers and WR was a significant need in this past draft. You stick to your draft board and your system. I didn't hear Donald's name once leading up to the draft, which indicates to me he wasn't a good system fit as I'd posted as well.
I said it before the draft, I said it after the draft,
and I will repeat it again. I wanted Donald at 12.
I feel just as PrDave has stated throughout this thread. Yeah the Giants have far more research then I do obviously, that doesn't mean they are infallibale and I have my own opinions and do not simply chalk everything up to whatever they do was the absolute right move cause history has shown that is not the case.
This really boiled down to me need vs BPA and need won. I felt that AD had the special upside about him that would've made this defense elite for years, while this was a deep WR draft and we already had Randle a 2nd rounder heading into his 3rd season, Cruz a PBer and Jernigan who has flashed his talent and needed opportunity. We could've selected another WR later. Time will of course tell and I will be rooting for Beckum but I still feel they should've taken Donald.
a clear cut better prospect and value than a WR (or DE/CB/LT), regardless of need. It is what it is, it won't change while this brass is in control, so I root for ours and look forward.
That it is much more important for them to feel they are correct about a player/coach/decision, then it is for the team to succeed. That they would rather a player fails they did not like in the draft, then they actually end up helping the team.
these clowns will deny it, but the fact that they run to this site to pronounce themselves as genius is all the proof we need. These same guys will be nowhere around if Beckham turns into the better pro. We haven't seen these guys play even one PRESEASON game and they are all here to tell us how badly the Giants screwed up. Can you imagine this place if Donald gets off to a great start (in actual games) and Beckham struggles? Damn...
BTW I don't know what fool would really want a player that the Giants drafted want to fail?? Your not a fan if that's the case. Beckham is a great pick, can be a very dangerous offense weapon if used properly, I just would have rather gone a different route with my 1st rd pick. Like someone said you don't pass up on game changers, but as much as I wanted Donald, Beckham is a Giant now so I will root for him to succeed.
We have is who we have. That's it. end of discussion. Don't like the pick? Lets discuss it 3/4 years down the road. I hope and pray that neither get injured and have HOF careers.
There will be several UDFA that will make all pro at various positions. Let me know in advance if we should have drafted them also.
After reading this thread. I know for a fact we shouldn't have picked up Cruz.
had 9 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He intercepted a pass and caused and recovered 5 fumbles. Donald said he was holding back because he didn't want to hurt his teammates
but I will be keeping an eye on how Donald does, and how Cyrus Kouandjo does, and how Tre Mason does as well. I wanted Ray Maulaluga instead of Nicks, wanted Derek Morgan instead of JPP, so what do I know? But I will be watching these players and hoping Beckham, Richburg, and Bromley make me stop keeping an eye on them.
and I accidentally bumped into this guy and knocked him over. I looked down and it was Aaron Donald.
And then his friend got pissed and pushed me. So, even though I was carrying groceries, I pushed him back with one free and and he toppled over like a child. I looked down and it was Zach Martin.

Let's see how he does when the hitting starts
Guy Giants didn't draft gets raves
OMG Reese should be fired I wanted that guy

BINGO!!!!!!!!!
And Pugh was a huge win for us the prior year.
But I'm not overly impressed with our FA pick-ups.
And we'll just have to wait and see if our starting unit is anywhere close to the excellence that once was.
Beatty is the key.
Odell Beckham is not.

Not impressed with Schwartz?
Again HOW DO YOU KNOW........That Beckham will not be vital cog for the O?
You don't......one had to be blind, deaf and dumb not to realize that with Nicks leaving that play makers on the outside was not a screaming need
The offense we are running now runs 3 WR looks a majority of the time
Seriously man...get a clue

But this is reality, dude, and at least half of BBIers probably do not agree with you.
My advice: Don't get so wound up in your own omnipotent opinion. It's just one opinion.

You must have a serious reading comprehension issue
It is too early to tell judging any draft pick and criticizing any pick at this point is ridiculous
In addition to also say that WR was not a need is also just as silly
