Possible trade scenarios

JR Smith for Thomas Robinson(blazers)
Gives Knicks that backup power forward and clears cap in 2015 if JR picks up player option

Andrea Bargnani. Wayne Ellington. Jose Calderon to pistons
For josh smith and future first round draft

Josh and Melo in front court might be dynamic
Barg and Ellington are cap throw ins
Calderon will offset smiths salary by 7 million until 2016
Calderon can't guard the elite point guards
Let Larkin run the show
And the all important first round pick

Just some thoughts on a boring Sunday night

Josh Smith still has 3 years 52 million on his contract. I wouldn't take him if the Pistons gave him to the Knicks for a high five and a coke
There's

no reason to believe right now that Larkin is ready to run the show, and you would have zero depth behind him and the guy has barely played at all in the NBA.

That's just an awful plan. Dont know any other way to put it. Thankfully I dont think Phil has any interest in doing something like you have suggested here
Mook. Good response
Earl the goat : 7/27/2014 12:13 am : link
But the defense when Calderon is in there will be awful

I was a fan of the Calderon trade cause it got rid if Felton but Calderon can't guard the side of a barn

I do believe smith and Melo would make a dynamic front court
Calderon

is not a good defender but he's still an effective point guard despite that. We literally have zero clue what Larkin is. He could be a complete bust. He could be very good. You can't just hand him the keys to the car with no depth behind him. He played like 10 minutes a game last year and didn't play well in limited action.

Josh Smith at 14 million is not something you want anywhere near your team. We need to get rid of those type of bad contracts, not bring them on.

A team built around Josh Smith and Carmelo for the next 3 years is going no where and fast. Smith was a train wreck last year
This is the guy
MookGiants : 7/27/2014 12:19 am : link
you want to take on at 3 years 52 million?

We already have a josh smith
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/27/2014 1:16 am : link
Why do we need two?
I don't know who you think on the Knicks
BVPelt : 7/27/2014 7:13 am : link
qualifies for 'we already have one Josh Smith' but the only player the Knicks have who's even close to him is Amar'e. That said, I wouldn't want ANY Josh Smiths on the Knicks. A trade for him like the one suggested reminds me of the kind of trade Isiah Thomas used to make. Thank goodness Phil Jackson is here now. We're all going to see the number of smart, unselfish players on the Knicks grow from here on.
If I were to think of a plan that
kmed : 7/27/2014 7:17 am : link
Phil Jackson would never consider, this would be it! Stop having thoughts.
Thankfully

my guess is Earl won't be on BBI much today. It's gonna take him awhile to shake off the hangover from last nights bender
Quintessential Isiah move
PhilSimms15 : 7/27/2014 9:38 am : link
Acquiring Josh Smith would be a quintessential Isiah move. Flashy, big name, yet would be adding a guy who is a horrible fit in almost any winning program.

Also, I can't think of any player more in the mold if an anti-Phil Jax player. Smith is a poor passer, has terrible court sense, low BB IQ and has lousy shot selection.

One great advantage to the "new" New York Knick management is I can read these ideas and know for sure, there is no chance.

Calderon
giantsfan44ab : 7/27/2014 11:07 am : link
Isn't a good defender but his offense makes up for it. He is the type of PG that can be a marginal upgrade for some teams. Maybe we get him to a team like the rockets or someone that needs a little more firepower halfway through the season.
One reason out of many
Earl the goat : 7/27/2014 12:08 pm : link
Why the Knicks have sucked is lack of point guard
Calderon is a nice backup but will be eaten alive on the defensive end as will Pablo
Larkin may not be the answer but I would certainly give him thekeys to the car What have the Knicks got to lose. They won't be competing for a championship this year anyway
Larkin gives them youth and athleticism and might as well learn on the run this year. Maybe he's a diamond in the rough
What do they have to lose?
kmed : 7/27/2014 12:10 pm : link
Um, how about a lot of basketball games. Shit, lets just play all their wives, what do they have to lose? Just stop.
Kmed
Earl the goat : 7/27/2014 1:23 pm : link
Not a bad idea. Maybe your wife can play
Calderon is better than any PG
giantsfan44ab : 7/27/2014 1:33 pm : link
we've had since Felton's first stint in NY that was more of a fluke than anything else. He's an efficient shooter and a better floor manager than Lin or Felton ever was.

It's the freaking east so there's a shot at the playoffs, you know some sort of momentum with a new coach and a star player on a new deal would be really nice instead of outright tanking with Larkin at PG
It's a good argument 44
Earl the goat : 7/27/2014 2:59 pm : link
But Calderon and Pablo aren't the future
Either Larkin or someone else via trade or FA is next year
Honestly. I wouldn't mind being in the lottery next year and tanking
A top draft pick and a max FA in 2015 might make the Knicks serious contenders
Josh Smith is by far the runaway
David in LA : 7/27/2014 3:03 pm : link
of the "chucker who should be the last guy chucking" award. He's a heck of an athlete, but has awful basketball IQ. It might sound hard to believe for Knicks fans, but JR Smith is definitely the lesser of 2 evils. Sure, he might have shitty shot selection, but he actually gets hot sometimes and becomes a very dangerous player to account for. Josh Smith can hoist up as many long range bricks as he pleases.
Calderon wasn't brought in for his defense
David in LA : 7/27/2014 3:07 pm : link
what he is being brought in for is making Carmelo's life easy and to set the table for the offense. The Knicks offense was fine when they had an actual PG in Jason Kidd 2 seasons ago (before the wheels completely fell off his body), and Melo put up an MVP worthy season in any other season. Calderon maximizes Melo, because he'll be getting much better looks at the end of the day.
