Wtf
BigBlueShock : 7/27/2014 4:04 pm : link
A freaking bunt. Unbelievable. Why can't Gardner steal a base anymore?
Shouldn't have to bunt to move Gardner
Kyle in NY : 7/27/2014 4:04 pm : link
Just steal the base
Mooks favorite
section125 : 7/27/2014 4:04 pm : link
play there. Probably good with Captain DP up.
If your 2 hitter
MookGiants : 7/27/2014 4:04 pm : link
has to bunt every fucking time in that situation then he shouldnt be your 2 hitter. Let Gardner steal and stop fucking wasting outs
That fucking bunt
illmatic : 7/27/2014 4:05 pm : link
let him steal.
That's exactly why this team
BigBlueShock : 7/27/2014 4:05 pm : link
cannot give away outs. Gardy needs to steal that base
Stealing is the one thing
section125 : 7/27/2014 4:06 pm : link
Ellsbury is much better at than Gardner.
Beltran
MookGiants : 7/27/2014 4:07 pm : link
bails them out, nice.

Bunt was still an awful play.
Like I said
BigBlueShock : 7/27/2014 4:07 pm : link
terrific strategy, with the bunt! Nice Beltran
Beltran saved their ass there.
Dave in Hoboken : 7/27/2014 4:08 pm : link
Whew.
it's an awful play
RasputinPrime : 7/27/2014 4:08 pm : link
unless it works.

And the likelihood that Jeter was going to hit a DP, it was a no-brainer.

4-4
Of course I'm joking
BigBlueShock : 7/27/2014 4:08 pm : link
that is still a brutal decision by Girardi (or Jeter)
i'm very happy
MookGiants : 7/27/2014 4:08 pm : link
that Betances is off the hook. The offense owed him that.

Not one person has suggested that it was a good idea to leave Gardner at first and let Jeter swing. The entire premise is that Gardner needs to steal second. Jeter is not hitting into a do if Gardy is on second
McCann just isn't making
Kyle in NY : 7/27/2014 4:11 pm : link
good contact on a consistent basis. 3-1 count and a weak ground ball. Worrisome.

Nice professional AB by Beltran before that though.
At the very least
MookGiants : 7/27/2014 4:12 pm : link
hit and run with Jeter. If he has to bunt every time in that situation, then he needs to hit in the bottom of the order.

Giving up an out there with Gardner's speed is so dumb.

I think playing 1st base is hurting him at the plate.
Wow
BigBlueShock : 7/27/2014 4:17 pm : link
Headley is gonna be a fan favorite if he keeps playing like this. He's been great
The pitch selection
MookGiants : 7/27/2014 4:20 pm : link
there made no sense to me. Why did he keep going to the fastball? Bury one in the dirt
Robertson missed his

Fuckity fuck...
Dunedin81 : 7/27/2014 4:21 pm : link
two runs brought in less by bad pitching than by mental errors by those pitchers.
Navarro

Come on. D-Rob not using his curveball this inning.

loss. Two awful losses in a row
Kind of hard
illmatic : 7/27/2014 4:32 pm : link
to get excited about the start after the all-star break when they just lose these games at home to a division rival that they're neck and neck with.
what is brutal
RasputinPrime : 7/27/2014 4:32 pm : link
is that we ever let Melky go. He really has come into his own. Brutal loss.
Good home stand
Kyle in NY : 7/27/2014 4:33 pm : link
ends on two bad notes. Some bad mental and physical errors by the relieves, which is frustrating.
Bull pen didn't get it
section125 : 7/27/2014 4:33 pm : link
done today. But then again, the pathetic offense was just as guilty.
A 7-3 homestand is nice...
Dunedin81 : 7/27/2014 4:33 pm : link
but it easily could have been 9-1.
Just
GatorNation : 7/27/2014 4:33 pm : link
Brutal. Can't afford to lose 2 at home to this team. Both in terrible fashion too.

Navarro went to az in the randy Johnson trade.
The stray offensive outburst notwithstanding...
Dunedin81 : 7/27/2014 4:35 pm : link
the inability of this offense to beat up on even crappy pitching is the reason we're struggling.
Navarro
GatorNation : 7/27/2014 4:36 pm : link
Still sux. Melky is another story.
Melky came into his own
Kyle in NY : 7/27/2014 4:37 pm : link
mostly through cheating.
you are guessing Kyle
RasputinPrime : 7/27/2014 4:45 pm : link
and also ignoring the likelihood that any other players are doing the same without having been caught.
That's the way it works
BigBlueShock : 7/27/2014 4:50 pm : link
Melky got caught. End of story.

And judging by his body, it's likely he's still got some vitamins he's slamming. Dude is jacked
7-3 homestand, can't complain.

Sources: Yankees have discussed Jake Arrieta. Told it would take an offer the Cubs could not refuse.
Lololololol
BigBlueShock : 7/27/2014 6:23 pm : link
an offer the Cubs could not refuse. Well, first of all, don't all trades kind of need both teams to, you know, not refuse them? But secondly, since I think the gist is that the Cubs would have to be overwhelmed, this IS Jake Arrieta we are talking about, right? I mean, I know he's having a pretty good season, but it is the National League, and most importantly, it IS jake Arrieta. Right?
Baltimore and lowly Seattle tied in the 10th.

How is he guessing? Cabrera both failed at least one drug test and had evidence in the Biogenesis scandal. There is no guess work. He was proven to have cheated. Plus, with the money he is making as a result, he probably continued to cheat.
I am glad the Yankees listened to their Major League scouts
Matt M. : 7/27/2014 8:15 pm : link
and got Headley instead of looking at his stats for the whole year. He is now supposedly healthy and had been hitting for about a month. I love the passion he is playing with and when healthy he really is a very good 3B offensively and defensively.

Of course, next year could get tricky with A-Rod returning. Either A-Rod becomes the DH or one of them moves to 1B and DH to spell Teixeira. If they could somehow rid themselves of Teixeira and Beltran, this move will fit nicely beyond this year.
Overall, even with 4/5 of the rotation down
Matt M. : 7/27/2014 8:20 pm : link
The overwhelming problem on this team is still their offense. Just about every single night, they are getting the pitching, both starting and relief, to be in and win every game. They don't need to trade for another pitcher. They need a bat.

I also agree with all the critics here. There is no reason to be bunting with Gardner on 1B. You either steal or hit and run. This offense simply can't afford to give away outs, especially at the top of the order.

The reality is Jeter doesn't belong in the 2 hole anymore if this is their mindset. The reality is also that Ellsbury doesn't belong in the 3 hole. Garndner and him should be 1-2 in either order. But, they don't have a legitimate 3 hitter either. IF Headley continues to hit, they could experiment with him 3rd and Jeter maybe 7th. But, we all know that won't happen.

That's if they resign him which is not a guarantee, maybe not even a likelihood at this point. He will command significant money on the open market.
jeter love fest is hurting the team

agree with others; no way should he be hitting 2nd; but clueless joe is just like torre - just too loyal to a fault. need to move him down and bring others up in the lineup. and yes, would be nice to hit-n-run one of these yrs. really want cash and clueless joe gone if the we don't make playoffs in this terrible al least :-)
