deGrom pitching another gem.
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 3:51 pm : link
No offense behind him. We need to wake the hell back up.
ow many balls are we going to hit of the top of the wall?
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 3:53 pm : link
geez.
deGroms pitch count is really high.
Kevin999 : 7/27/2014 3:56 pm : link
He's only given up 1 hit but he is struggling a little.

Nice shot by Duda!
Anther empty HR for Duda.
Section331 : 7/27/2014 3:59 pm : link
LOL.
Duda has been
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 4:03 pm : link
pretty much the only hitter hitting since the break. Granderson and Murphy seem to have come out a little the last couple days hopefully.

Lagares has been ICE COLD.
No love,for,Chris Young?

lol yes Section

deGrom now has an ERA of

2.80. WTF. Kid has been awesome.
Well he is doing it against shitty hitting teams

I was told
deGrom and
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 4:20 pm : link
Wheeler have been must watch TV lately. Colon, Neise, and Gee have all been pretty good overall but all have thrown up some stinkers. It would be nice if at least Gee and Neise finished the year strong.
im glad

the Mets FINALLY found their leadoff hitter.

No more Ike Davis leading them and the fans on.
Wow deGrom coming
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 4:21 pm : link
out again.
DeGrom at 109 pitches
spike : 7/27/2014 4:23 pm : link
so why didn't they pinch hit for him?
whats the seasonal pitch count for DeGrom?
spike : 7/27/2014 4:24 pm : link
I wonder if he will get shut down and the Mets bring up Montero or Thor to take over the spot?
I don't really get this
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 4:26 pm : link
111 pitches. We are trying to limit his innings anyway.
his pitch count was too high
Kevin999 : 7/27/2014 4:27 pm : link
to go out there for the 7th.
Kid could get rookie of the year
Canton : 7/27/2014 4:28 pm : link
Why shut him down
You have a good bullpen

Not realistic
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 4:31 pm : link
but say the Mets do get up above .500 in the next couple weeks? They might actually be in a wild card race down the stretch. You want to lose your best starter this year during that?
I hope Dice K gets back soon..
spike : 7/27/2014 4:32 pm : link
anyways when will the Mets score more than 3 runs in a game?

The drought continues...
I wonder if the Dice K injury
Kevin999 : 7/27/2014 4:33 pm : link
will affect them wanting to trade Colon. Unless they plan to bring up Montero or Thor.

Hows Montero doing in AAA?
Every start by either is important
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 4:35 pm : link
Syndergaard with 6 shutout innings last time out had to have helped his case. We still might see him this year.
great job by Black

at some point in august I think a 6 man rotation will be implemented which will help. Wheeler has been our best starter but deGrom is 2nd. Degrom is at 86 .1 inning in mlb this year how many at triple a?
Nice Job Vic Black

be over .500 again this year. When your fucking shortstop is batting a stout .229 and your outfield is a revolving door of mediocrity .500 is a stretch.

.500
Metnut : 7/27/2014 5:06 pm : link
Is solid against this road trip, but I wouldn't exactly call is tough. San Diego is one of the worst teams in the league, Sea is solid but playing poorly and Mil is a good division leading team.

I'd like to see the bats come alive and see us do some damage against a bad Philly team. A big homestand here and I think we'll see some buzz around the time for the first time in a while.
Btw,

Metnut. San Diego and Seattle had the number 2 and number 3 pitching staffs in the league. It was a tie game in game 3 in the 9th and had Edgin not tripped over himself we might have won it. The rule of thumb regardless of who you play anyway is to hope to play .500 on the west coast because of the time difference. Seattle and Milwaukee are good teams. I will absolutely be thrilled with .500. Now go home, rest a day, and beat up on Phily.

That's all well and fine but at the end of the day they are still 5 games under .500 and not a contender at this point. As a lifelong met fan i'm sick of this shit.
More shutout ball from deGrom? Yawn.
arcarsenal : 7/27/2014 6:23 pm : link
And Duda.. again. Wow. He's gonna hit 30 HR's this year.

Not bad splitting the trip. Would have liked to have taken 6 of the 10 but I guess it is what it is. MIL and SEA are both good teams. We should have won that Pads series.

The Mets really need to find some offense for next year.

The pitching looks very good.

I would change the dimensions again at Citi Field. Strong pitching makes it easier to pitch well in hitters parks.

on the last home stand. The ball doesn't carry in April and until mid May. The hot weather the ball carries, no need to change the ballpark
Well..
arcarsenal : 7/27/2014 6:40 pm : link
Harvey is coming off TJ, Wheels is really just putting it together now, Jake is only a small handful of starts into his career and Syndergaard hasn't even thrown a pitch to a MLB hitter yet, so.. I'd just like to see all these guys healthy and in the rotation (though one.. maybe 2 may wind up dealt) and pitching well. We can worry about the awards later.
Syndergaard

I'd say Harvey. He was neck in neck with Kershaw for being the best pitcher in the nl last season before he got hurt. Next most likely is Jake. He seems to be ahead of Wheeler right now.

All their 1st round college bats have started their pro careers in Brooklyn. Granted, it's only Conforti, Plawecki and Ike.

For reference, the only 1st round college bat

to skip the NYPL going back to 1990 was Jason Tyner in 1998.

Jay Payton in 1994 jumped from the NYPL short season ball all the way to Double-A.

Jeromy Burnitz started in the NYPL in 1990 but made it to St. Lucie near the end of the season and began 1991 in Double-A.
With Syndergaard looking like he's hitting his stride

Gary from The East End : Admin : 7/27/2014 9:21 pm : link
To get the best deal, you have to convince the other side that you're willing to get up from the table and walk away. That's the Alderson mojo.
Sandy has done well in the trade market for the most part.

He's pretty much a 2ndbaseman at this point. Former scouting reports not included Flores is a better SS.
Imagine if Mets had taken Giolito
oipolloi : 7/27/2014 10:51 pm : link
Everyone knew he would likely need surgery, Nats were willing to go above slot. Mets were not, which is just about as good an example you will ever get of pennywise, pound foolish.
Its hurts to think about
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 11:07 pm : link
but at some point you just have be happy with who they have taken and who they have developed. You can always second guess things but having a top 4 system in the league and looking forward to a 2015 rotation with Harvey, Wheeler, deGrom, and Syndergaard in it, and Matz on the way is what most teams would kill for.
Thats a pretty good list..
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 11:14 pm : link
I'd probably have Reynolds over Verrett though.
So I guess most teams
ZGiants98 : 7/27/2014 11:58 pm : link
feel a full load for a starter after Tommy John is around 160-180 innings. There is a pretty significant faction that thinks its complete BS and teams are only guessing and there is no evidence or anything scientific to make that distinction.

Still, if the Mets follow suit do we start Harvey in May next year? Shut him down at the end of the year? Interesting question.
