Nassib

lugnut : 7/27/2014 7:04 pm
Geez, this guy sounds like he's just not a good QB, period. Can't remember hearing anything good out of him from last year's camp, last preseason and season, or so far in this year's camp. Any chance he's actually cut before Sept. 8 and we prefer Painter as our backup?
Curtis Painter is 0-8 as a stsrting QB

Bet we could get at least 0-9 out of Nassib!

Ha! That's good stuff!
No matter how good or bad Nassib looks,

I really don't see the point to keeping Painter. He has already proven he is not an NFL QB. So, what benefit does he provide on a team that thinks it contend? He offers nothing over Nassib, even if Nassib stinks himself.

for Eli's good health and longevity.
Nassib never gets discussed here.

Good thing someone finally raised the issue with this thread.
Nassib will be fine

He had 19 snaps last pre-season. Let's hold any judgement until we have to see him in any games. He could surprise.
As I read reports
G-Fan4 : 7/28/2014 8:33 am : link
I see some similarities to Eli early in his career, one reporter said nassib makes these nice throws that look really good but the bad passes look really bad, I mean Eli was notorious for that early in his career and still from time to time leave you scratching your head wondering how he makes a perfect throw in double coverage then bounce a 5 yard screen pass off a guys feet. I watched Nassib his whole career his best year was in an uptempo fast paced offense, and he was one of the better college qbs that I have watched in a two minute offense, his huddle control in college was impressive and could get the ball out quick, syracuse used a lot of quick slants and screen passes and I think if the giants are patient he will turn into a solid #2.
does it matter?

The only options are Nassib or Painter and neither will win any games if Eli goes down.
never understood why people cared
UConn4523 : 7/28/2014 9:16 am : link
what do you want, electric flashes from out backup QB? Is that even realistic?

We go as Eli goes, always have, always will until he either hangs them up, or has a season ending injury (in which case our season is over anyway).

I don't care who our back-up is. The Cassels of the world are few and far between and generally land in spots with already fantastic talent.
Still have no clue why

they released Josh Freeman when he has already proven he can play at a decent level if necessary.

Freeman couldn't get the offense lined up correctly in the first week of minicamp and nobody else picked him up yet. There are some clues for you.

the wrong way, is the two draft picks and lost roster spot last year, for a guy, that thus, is showing no return on our investment, even in practice....

To compare him to Eli's first year, is a real reach....

Im just saying Eli had his good and bad throws when he first started and according to some of the reports I've read nassib's good passes look really good and the bad passes look really bad, that's the only thing I'm comparing to say nassib is no good and is a lost draft pick is a tad absurd. After 19 practices and a couple preseason game.

I actually was a Nassib proponent based on where they got him & the value.

He obviously hasn't lit it up in camp, but way too premature to make a decision on him. There was no way, barring injury, he was going to see the field last year or this year & probably the foreseeable future too.
Return investment?
G-Fan4 : 7/28/2014 10:10 am : link
2nd year qb in his second offense, what kind of return do you want? Just be patient with the kid.
Everyone has their own opinion.

Some are that he has continued to look horrible and others that he is beginning to shake off the rust and show some promise.
Nassib has a month to start

putting things together and show TC that he has developed enough to earn the #2 spot.

If he can't, then I think its fair to say that he has disappointed.

I am pulling for him, mostly because that backup QB spot has been such a revolving door for a position that hardly has played. And maybe moreso because the BBI threads would be merciless on him and Jerry Reese if he fails.
The best way to make Ryan Nassib look good...
Big Blue Blogger : 7/28/2014 10:55 am : link
...is to give him a ton of first-string reps, and then play him with the 1s in an exhibition game.

It's a waste of scarce practice time, and he might still suck. I have no idea. But if your biggest worry is negative coverage of a backup QB, that's how you make a backup look good.
