Affleck as batman is a disgrace. Nothing against Captain Hairplugs but it takes a special kind of actor to take on characters that are iconic. He isn't one them.

but its not like the list of batman actors is amazing. Clooney, Kilmer, and even Bale wasnt exactly some great actor they got when he took on the role. Personally i dont think this movie will succeed or fail based on affleck as batman. I think he will be fine, its all of the other stuff like plot and character development that will make this movie good or bad.

Bale is a great actor who played Batman well but wasn't a show stopper, so to that extent I agree. But the rest were either bad actors for a leading role (Kilmer, Keaton) or were in childish movies like Clooney.

The precedence has been set and Affleck is just a pitiful actor. Other than the roles where he gets to play himself with no range whatsoever (the Town and Argo), he's awful. He will only hurt the movie which is the bad part about the casting.

he didnt really have this great acting resume. I liked Bale as Batman, so im not taking anything away from him, but im just saying that its hard to really get a feel for how Affleck will do prior to seeing him. I mean playing Batman isnt very difficult, can he pull of Bruce Wayne? That will be the question, i think he will be fine. Again he wouldnt have been my first choice (or second, third, etc..) but i still think he will be ok.

Of all the actors that have played Batman, Bale is easily the most respected and talented.

The best potential Batman actor would have been Liam Neeson - obviously he's too old now - and was also cast as Ra's al Ghul in the recent trilogy - so that ship has sailed. But a younger Neeson would have been great.

I think they should have gotten Josh Brolin. I think he's tied up with Marvel though, so he probably couldn't do it even if they wanted him.

I don't really like the Affleck choice at all, but I'm more concerned by Zac Synder being the guy in charge of all this. His movies don't really do it for me.

Bale was lesser known then but still had roles which required a ton of acting chops (Machinist, American Psycho, even Equilibrium).

Affleck has been the laughing stock of hollywood in regards to acting for the better part of 20 years. We aren't just complaining to complain.

Supes is an illegal immigrant. Like this movie is going to be a metaphor for what's happening now.

Then I remember this is being directed by Zack Snyder. Metaphor Shmetaphor. We're going to to see some slow motion banging and clanging, and smashing and dashing, punching and crunching, and people dying by the millions but, in the background so we as human beings don't recoil in horror at dead bodies.

There's got to be some kind of love triangle (possibly two, I mean there's so many combinations between Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and Lois Lane)thrown in to get that Twilight audience, and lots of wanton, mindless destruction-action that fanboys crave.

You'll walk out of the theatre feeling numb and emotionless, and feeling like something hurts but you can't tell want it is. You won't know it until it's too late but, part of your soul has been taken away. This is the Zack Snyder experience.

Off course he could prove me wrong and this will be an enjoyable Marvel Studios style romp.

Which is the real wild card here. We don't even know how much of Bruce Wayne we will actually see. This is meant to be the sequel to Man of Steel, and you'd think the movie is going to center around Superman. For all we know Bruce Wayne could hardly get any screen time, and 90% of what we see from Affleck is as Batman.

source material for this storyline... Frank Miller's 4 part comic mini-series called The Dark Knight Returns. If you want to know what the bulk of the Batman story is going to come from in Batman vs. Superman, read that or see the two part movie they did recently for it.

I don't know how the movie is going to be, but thus far the look of it is very impressive.

an older Batman I really would've liked to have seen Jon Hamm in the role. I don't even know if he was considered, but I think he would've been good in the Bruce Wayne role.

Spot on Eric. Everything I've heard thus far has been great and the people working closely with the film have been impressed. I think I might re-read TDKR this week. Would love to see the teaser in HQ, it was a pretty epic tease IMO

comics you could ever read. I'm glad they are drawing inspiration from that material, but how much can they really adapt for BvS?

Specifically, Superman is basically a stooge in TDKR. A crony that The President (who looks suspiciously like Reagan) sends to Gotham to reign in vigilante Batman. I can't see them turning their marquee pretty boy character into a chump like that.

There's no a whole lot of Bruce Wayne in that storyline, either.

So, if Affleck can sell Batman, (and let's face it, it doesn't take much to sell Batman -- it's selling Bruce Wayne that's the challenge) then he'll be fine.

prior to landing the Batman role. Second of all, even the unpopular choices for Batman in the past had their merits. Keaton was considered a poor choice because he was more of comedic actor and slight in build. but, he had a long resume in Hollywood already, was well liked, and good at what he did. The concern was not about his talent, but whether it translated to Batman and Wayne. Kilmer was another guy with a long resume and some decent work in there. He was also a late casting after Keaton wanted out. Clooney was never a real strong actor, but he was a box office draw and nobody doubted his ability to pull off Bruce Wayne.

Of all these choices, they all has some level of established talent. Affleck has a resume of bad acting, including possibly the worst movie ever made, in Gigli. His talents lie in writing and behind the camera. There really isn't one acting role in 20 years that anyone cane point to and say he carried the movie.

He makes (bad) video games instead of movies - 2 dimensional action figures punching each other with a few filters over the film to give it a "gritty" feel vs. any real story telling or character development.

After Nolan turned his Batman trilogy into a over-written mess (TDKR is "A Tale of Two Cities for Dumb People with Three Hours to Waste"), a nice balance between well-written and action-oriented would be agreeable. Snyder's not the best choice for that.

I did like him in was Reindeer Games. That role suited him.

In any case, people bring up the Ledger was in Knight's Tale argument which is lame because the guy had acting ability that was proven.

We have 2 decades of awful Affleck acting, that a Golden Globe can't cover up. You but be a huge Affleck fan to defend him this much.

isn't a great actor, but atrocious is such a strong term. He's done some bad movies. Nobody can deny that. He's also better as part of a strong cast than in a role where he has to carry the film. I think this movie has a strong cast though, so I am not going to worry about his portrayal of Batman/Bruce Wayne.

And let's be honest... it's not a difficult role to play.

But I'm not as concerned with it since he made the "Town". He was excellent in that. Gives me hope he can pull off batman.

He could play the same character from the Town, maybe growl a little more when he speaks.

The villains have the fun roles in this silly movies. Jack, Jim Carrey, Ledger, etc.

I honestly think Affleck is ok, but he's not a leading guy. He's been great in supporting roles.

if they had hired Affleck to direct this movie, i'd be happier than with the current arrangement. i think he's a stiff as an actor.

but wait! you can be a stiff and still pull off Batman, particularly if you spend a lot of time in disguise.

as for the rest of the movie, they're introducing way too many characters in one shot for it to be done right. very low expectations.
