NFT: American Horror Story: Freak Show’ Cast Announced

Canton : 7/28/2014 1:37 am

Quote:
Kathy Bates and Evan Peters will play Ethel and Jimmy Darling, while Oscar nominee Angela Bassett will play the role of Desiree Dupree alongside Michael Chiklis as Dell Toledo (Bates’ husband and Bassett’s ex-husband), Emma Roberts as Maggie, Sarah Paulson in the dual role of conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler, and Jessica Lange as Elsa Mars. Meanwhile, one of the big villains of the season will be played by character actor John Carroll Lynch, perhaps best known as possible serial killer Arthur Leigh Allen in David Fincher’s critically-acclaimed film Zodiac. The role of All My Children alum Finn Wittrock has yet to be confirmed, nor is there anything on the table for Neil Patrick Harris, who still really, really wants to be on the show. But we’re keeping our fingers crossed anyway.

All in all, this is possibly the best cast the show has assembled for a season so far, as Bassett and Chiklis alone are worth the price of admission

Can't wait for this season, along with SOA.
While I like the show

Does anybody else think they shoehorn too many horror tropes into a season? I mean season 2 had aliens, an insane asylum, mad scientists, serial killers, the works.

Season 2 was an outlier. Season 1 was very tight and focused, and Season 3 (coven) stayed pretty true to witches and sorcery. At times it can be sloppy in terms of spreading the story too thin, but I think they achieve something special given the niche material.

Can't wait for this season.
Love it.

Can't wait for the freaks (as if there hasn't been freaks every season).
Makes me wanna watch Carnivale
j_rud : 7/28/2014 10:26 am : link
then curse HBO for a week for leaving it unfinished
first season was ok
RicFlair : 7/28/2014 10:28 am : link
couldn't get through the 2nd or 3rd seasons.

will try this one because of Chiklis.
Second season was a bit over-ambitious, unfocused,
j_rud : 7/28/2014 10:39 am : link
but I guess that can happen when you're playing with the asylum backdrop, there's just so many ways to go with it. But I thought season one was good and three was excellent. A few times this past season I thought they really pushed the envelope, I really hope that continues.
Also, as the show moves forward

it continues to build its own mythology even though each season is completely different. For instance I found it interesting that Taissa Farmiga wasn't mentioned, she's always played Peter's funhouse mirror version of a girlfriend. Not necessarily saying I wanted to see it done again, I just like how the show is creating a sort of nebulous, semi-disconnected mythology.
Sweet

Chiklis is a solid addition
UConn4523 : 7/28/2014 10:48 am : link
but the female leads make the show a must watch.
OK, Ill put myself out there...

Anyone else just never get around to The Shield and still sees Chiklis as The Commish? I was only a little kid when it was on but I loved it. Saturday nights were a big deal, Old Man j_rud would let me stay up late and watch The Commish and 20/20.
Chiklis
RicFlair : 7/28/2014 11:36 am : link
is and will always be Vic Mackey to me.
The Shield was epic

its first 3 seasons then ran into a lot of trouble and never bounced back. Was never bad TV, but wasn't what it was. One of those that needed a cap at 4 seasons or so.
The show is very up and down

They'll have a couple great shows in a row and then the writers go on vacation and turn it over to the interns.
I liked

season 1 a lot, season 2 I struggled with keeping up, season 3 I thought had so much potential, they had a ton of options, and in the end I thought it was ok, but could have been better.

looking forward to season 3.
