And I love it. Great phone. I went with Republic Wireless which subsidizes your purchase, then give you no contract plan options ranging from $5 to $40 a month. You can change your plan level twice a month too. The phone you buy from them is specialized to use nearby WiFi networks before using any cell signals, which is why you get such a great deal on the phone and the plan. I have had excellent service and results from it.
Get ready for the anti-Motorola crowd, however as there are many out there who have had bad experiences with earlier models. I'd take with a grain of salt complaints about earlier versions of their phones. The moto x is a winner, imo.
If you do decide to go with RW let me know. I have a referrer link that will save us both an extra $25.
But the next version of it should be dropping very shortly - which I would assume would drive the cost down of the Moto X.
I definitely think the approach of having a legitimate "contract free" option phone is a great move by Google, even if the Moto X hasn't been as popular as other phones out there. I have a grandfathered data plan with Verizon and was considering jumping into one before I got a HTC One late last year and preserved my data through a Verizon loophole.
wouldn't buy a Moto X today. Motorola is about to release the successor and the Moto X never had top of the line specs to begin with. While it's a great device, I'd wait about 3 -4 weeks before buying a new device.
While not top of the line with specs, all of the little things they put in software make it pretty awesome. Active display, Moto Assist, etc all work really well for me. It solidified my opinion that at this point, hardware isn't as important as software for mobile phones. I will gladly buy a lower spec phone if I think the software experience is better.
But as already stated, the X2 is supposedly coming out soon. So that would be one reason to hold off on the X.
