70 percent completion percentage for Eli?
2000 YARDS
Pete from Woodstock : 7/28/2014 12:20 pm : link
for Jennings too! lol
His percentage should rise significantly
BeerFridge : 7/28/2014 12:27 pm : link
a lot shorter throws and fewer down field bomb attempts.
Of course, probably not all the way to 70. :)

If his best has been 63% and he's only known vertical, comparatively low % passing attack, is it inconceivable for him to improve 6% in this new offense? Plus, they set their sights higher rather than lower.
As Stapleton mentioned, Alex Smith was at 70.2...

... his last season with San Francisco, and lost his job. A high completion percentage can reflect exceptional accuracy and/or exceptional risk aversion. Eli is known for neither, so I think 70% is just an example of setting a lofty goal. The truth is, if Eli ever did complete 70%, it would probably mean he was checking down too much, a la Smith.

lead the league in completion percentage. That tells me how important a stat it is.
I could have sworn
AnishPatel : 7/28/2014 1:01 pm : link
Rivers was on that list. Apparently he missed by .5 %. He had a 69.5% completion rate this past season.

I expect Eli to get a 67-69% rate this first year. That's fine by me. Get the damn TD rate up. I would like to see it over 30 TDs. Only 1 year he had 31 Tds. Hopefully this year he can get over 30 TDs once again.
We'll see the difference between what WCO qb numbers look like
Phil in LA : 7/28/2014 1:02 pm : link
vs. the numbers that our old old offense produced.
Yards per attempt

is a far better stat than completion % as it "rewards" a QB for completing longer passes.

2013 Leaders in Y/A
Foles - 9.1
Rodgers - 8.7
P. Manning - 8.3
McCown/Rivers/Wilson - 8.2
Brees - 7.9
Kaepernick - 7.7
Palmer - 7.5
Cutler - 7.4

2012 Leaders in Y/A
Griffin - 8.1
P. Manning/Newton - 8
Wilson - 7.9
Rodgers - 7.8
Brees/Ryan - 7.7
Brady/Romo - 7.6
Schaub/Eli - 7.4
I only have one statistical goal for Eli this year:

Three.
70% completion rate?
Bobby Epps : 7/28/2014 1:39 pm : link
This year's version of the SB Championship Clock?

Why make the 70% target public? Don't get me wrong- I'd love to see Eli complete 70% of his passes. Hopefully, Langsdorf/McAdoo see this as realistic and not just new coaches talking smack.
I'm fine with his completion % now

The only thing I want to see change is INTs (and from last year sacks) to go way, WAY down.

Hmmm

Blogger has the right of it. If he gets 3 I could not give a rats ass about any other stat... lol
70% is not realistic.
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/28/2014 1:53 pm : link
It's just a lofty goal. Why not aim high? I read that in the article as to be taken with a bit of humor.

"Where would you like to be this time next year? Well, I'd like to be retired, living on a beach in Maui."

What about from 2007-2013?
Hmmm... Another short practice.
Big Blue Blogger : 7/28/2014 2:41 pm : link
While my head says the offense needs on-field work, my heart says it's hard to argue with a camp where the most serious injury so far is a mild hamstring pull.
More of this!

Conor Orr @ConorTOrr
Also, Jason Pierre-Paul looks a lot quicker off the edge. Night and day from training camp last year. #nygConnor Hughes
If the shorter practices
section125 : 7/28/2014 3:03 pm : link
keep them on the field Sunday, I'm for it. They can work up to longer practices as the camp moves along. Plus they have the extra game.
I was watching the giants practice today live on NFLN.
Bobby Epps : 7/28/2014 3:07 pm : link
For a short period of time, we watched the no-huddle offense. But, most of the time the Giants huddled-up and then ran a play.

Wonder if the Giants were worried about showing too much of their new offense live on TV.
they have an extra preseason game
GiantsFan84 : 7/28/2014 3:16 pm : link
i'm ok with some shorter practices to keep people healthy
One of the plays not mentioned on Live Updates but was
Bobby Epps : 7/28/2014 3:18 pm : link
seen on NFLN was a tackle behind the line of scrimmage by Spencer Adkins- couldn't tell who the RB was but he was stopped in his tracks.

Adkins is a FA LB at 5'11" 236 lbs. and fast. Played 2 years with Falcons and was with the Ravens last year.
70 minute practice
