Giants practice spotlight: Will Beatty has up and down day; leg still an issue? - ( New Window )
Hmmm
Bill L : 7/28/2014 10:42 am : link
"Beatty is first or last on line, depending on which way you're looking at it. He's standing between fellow linemen James Brewer and Geoff Schwartz."
Really didn't sound too bad
Bob from Massachusetts : 7/28/2014 10:47 am : link
losing to JPP on occasion seems to be a good thing, if we expect JPP to rebound and dominate. And they're limiting him on the leg, but he's getting a lot of action and appearing to for the most part hold his own against JPP and others. So to me it sounds more up than down.
Like Bob said

Its kind of tough to gauge how good or bad he is going up against a supposedly healthy JPP. Not sure what to take from that because getting beat by a very good DE is not something a clearly not 100% Beatty should get too much crap for.
Agree that the title makes it sound more negative than the narrative
Bill L : 7/28/2014 10:50 am : link
He beat JPP most of the time and JPP is supposedly on his way back from being the Adrien Robinson of Defensive Ends. And he took some breaks in recognition of the fact that he is coming off of an injury. Some of his breaks were during special team work.
its all good news
GiantsFan84 : 7/28/2014 10:51 am : link
because he's practicing. he's still getting strength back from the injury. the important part is he's progressing and getting reps. worry about the performance aspect a couple weeks from now
uh, performance aspect might be important this coming Sunday
aquidneck : 7/28/2014 10:54 am : link
He's scheduled to start and protect Eli for at least a quarter I would expect.
Losing a few battles with JPP is a down day?
Jimmy Googs : 7/28/2014 10:55 am : link
More concerned about the limping comment than anything else in that article...

a few weeks ago we were wondering if he'd even be able to go at the beginning of camp. he's coming off a serious injury. he's not going to be 100% right away. he needs time and reps. he has time and is getting reps. he has not had any setbacks. this is all positive.

as for this sunday, it's a preseason game, and an extra preseason game at that. it's a glorified scrimmage. work on some screens and some runs and don't put eli in any kind of jeopardy.
I would think about sitting Eli Manning
Jimmy Googs : 7/28/2014 11:04 am : link
for the entire game on Sunday.

Let Nassib and Painter take all the snaps for a game that is going to be a train-wreck on both sides anyway.

And Giants still have to sort out who can play Left Tackle right now anyway so no point putting him in harms way...
Seems to me the downs relate to conditioning
njm : 7/28/2014 11:06 am : link
And given his inability to fully work out during the offseason it really isn't surprising. Sounds like he might be farther along in his recovery that was expected at this point.

I'll bet he plays the first series or two. Just the first if it's 8 plays or longer and results in points.
Sounds good to me. He
section125 : 7/28/2014 11:13 am : link
likely has lost strength (at 300 lbs he is light). He was likely limited in lifting because of the leg recovering. Glad he's there and I just hope he doesn't pull a muscle trying to over compensate.
Googs: I agree, and it wouldn't be unusual for Manning to sit.
Big Blue Blogger : 7/28/2014 11:15 am : link
Romo skipped last year's Hall of Fame game. Tannehill played just two series - one, really, because he fumbled away his first snap.

The question then becomes: do you play any first-stringers? There might not be much point. Nassib will probably be more comfortable with the backups, since he gets most of his practice reps with them.
I am actually okay with playing starters just not Eli
Jimmy Googs : 7/28/2014 11:18 am : link
The O-line needs as much work as anybody to develop cohesiveness. And it gives Nassib a fair chance...
You absolutely play Eli..
ImaGiant86 : 7/28/2014 11:30 am : link
and the rest of the starting offense for at least a series. They are learning a new offense, they need all the live reps they can get.
They have to play Eli
Jay on the Island : 7/28/2014 11:39 am : link
they are learning an entirely new offense and with the new CBA they now have less practices to learn it and gel.
Play starters for one series
ANGPASS : 7/28/2014 11:42 am : link
the sit eli and cruz on the second. too valuable.
Then sit all starters after that.

Online should play more than 1 series only because they need to develop chemistry. Also, jennings and wilson should play 1st quarter then williams hillis cox and gaskins the rest of the game. Randle could play more than a series to show consistency. That is what i think will happen.

I read that three times trying to figure out how to picture things. Can't do it.
Beatty
Joey in VA : 7/28/2014 12:03 pm : link
Needs to be poked with sticks until he gets mean.
It's riveting
RetroJint : 7/28/2014 12:11 pm : link
that's for sure. Any news on Beatty is devoured . He's one of the key Giants. He also happens to be introspective & vulnerable. Hard to believe he is now senior man on the o-line.

The Adrien Robinson of defensive ends? Love it!
