NFT: Steakhouse Recommendations in Albany

Giants Fan in Steelers Land : 7/28/2014 11:56 am
Anybody know a great place to get a steak in Albany?

Planning a bachelor party weekend up in Lake George and it looks like Albany will be where the place where everyone meets up and grabs dinner to start the weekend.

Nothing overly priced or too fancy but a place that's a step up from the Texas Roadhouses and Outbacks of the world that gives you a nice size steak would be ideal. Or if that doesn't work a place with great burgers and bar food would be a good alternative.

Figured with Albany being the former site of training camp that some BBIers would be knowledgeable of the area.
Was always a huge fan of

the Pump House, Lombardo's and if your in the mood for burritos (Bomber's).

677 Prime is a top end place (Albany top end) for steak but you had said you were looking for something middle of the road.

Jack's is also a great place too but can get pricey.
delmonico's

Is a decent choice for affordable steak with big portions.
I like Reel Seafood Co. on Wolf Road.

It may be the last independent restaurant on that strip.
Gingerman has decent food and is not crazy expensive, neighborhood feel.
I agree about 677 Prime. That's the best.

Also up there in price but which has historical value is Jack's Oyster House downtown.

My choice for middle of the road would be The Barnsider in Colonie. It's on Sand Creek Road off of Wold Road. That would be the best place for your needs IMO.

Would 2nd the suggestions of Delmonicos and Barnsider. I would probably recommend Delmonicos first because of large portions, great quality and not really expensive. Depending on when you're going
It can get pretty busy so I would call ahead and see if they can set something up for you...

677 Prime is tops, but probably too expensive for what you're looking for.

Reel Seafood just underwent a renovation and menu change, so can't speak too much to it but friends tell me it's very good now.

Delmonico's is good, not great, probably the best spot for what you're looking for (steaks). Outside of that, I'd only recommend smaller Italian joints that I know have a great steak (more Schenectady than Albany though).

If doing Delmonico's, definitely call ahead as they book up fast. If you have any trouble making a reservation, let me know as I may be able to help out on that front.
consider meeting in Saratoga

lots of good places there. I can give you a list if needed.

677 is great, but pricey. Barnsider is near Wolf Road, a little out of the way.

There is a DinoSaur BBQ in Troy, which is casual and prob a good call for an all guys group.

After Dinner on your way up from Lake George

Make sure you stop at the Horseshoe in Saratoga on Friday night. Always a ton of people and a real good time and a very fun band.

But there are a ton of restaurants in Saratoga if you need a list let me know and have a blast.

Thanks guys...your help is really appreciated

Saratoga suggestions -

Druther's
Olde Bryan Inn
15 Church

Depending on when the party is (track season or not), some of these places may not take a reservation.
I also endorse the suggestions of Delmonico's and the Barnsider.

Angelo's has a place in Clifton Park that is relatively close to Saratoga. The Barnsider has excellent steak and salad bar and is much less expensive than Angelo's.
Delmonico's and the Barnsider are fine.

Reel Seafood changed its menu. It is now pricey and really not what you want for a bunch of guys.

Yeah it's not the Syracuse location - nor is it the Rochester place either.
