NFT: The Hobbit: Battle of the 5 Armies teaser trailer

Jay on the Island : 7/28/2014 4:20 pm
I am sure many people here couldn't care less about this movie but I am exciting to see the finale.
Link - ( New Window )
pretty cool

definitely looking forward to it
Nice trailer - I certainly want to see it.

I just wish they had someone better than Martin Freeman in the leading role.
"Horrible"

- Lord Zedd
I'll definitely see it

I think i'm one of the few that liked the charm of 1 over the more action heavy 2, but not by too wide of a gap. 3 should be very good I just hope the ending isn't an extra 45 minutes of nothing like in RotK.
hate the title

how about we come up with something creative that doesn't destroy any mystery people might have about the conclusion of the film and series. As widely read as Tolkien is I understand that's going to be a stark minority of viewers but still.

I agree with you, I liked the 2nd movie, but story wise it's only purpose was to get from 1 to 3...the funny vibe between Bilbo and the dwarves was captured pretty well in the first movie
.....

Was the first hobbit good? I got 30 minutes in and couldn't take it anymore. Perhaps it got better. I couldn't get past the endless dwarf dish toss routine.

I can see why people don't like that, for me it lured me in by actually spending time with the dwarves. Rushing in from meeting the dwarves to immediately going on a quest would have been forced and not true to the book, IMO.
finally watched the trailer

looks great. Should be the best of the three as long as it doesn't have an overly drawn out third act. Looking forward to seeing Smaug in action as well as whatever big battles there will be.

After a pitiful summer, this fall/winter is shaping up to a good season of movies.

Considering the trailer is filled with images of armies lining up to fight, I'm not sure the fact that there is a battle between armies is much of a spoiler. I'd imagine all future trailers would have similar imagery too.
I have enjoyed the Hobbit movies and will definitely see this

in the theater.

The barrel escape scene down the river in the second one was a bit over the top though. As was the dish tossing. I could've done without all the acrobatics and circus-ey stuff.

The LoTR movies seemed to carry a much more serious tone, and I would have preferred they stayed in that direction for the Hobbit movies as well. When character types, tone, and things like that change in a setting it kind of pushes me out of the world a bit and takes some of the enjoyment out of it.

They're still good movies though. Too much of a Hobbit fan to let things like that totally ruin it for me.

The subtitle of the second film should have been, "3hrs of ridiculous running from orcs that wasn't in the book."

I enjoyed the first film, but thought the second was horribly done. That god awful unbelievable chase while they were in the barrels made me want to vomit...just horrible and completely unnecessary other than to fill time, I guess.

I hope the final act will be a bit more true to the novel.

I also think Jackson chickened out on the dwarfs a bit
Cam in MO : 7/29/2014 10:04 am : link
my making them look like short humans instead of dwarfs as he did with Gimli.

Especially Thorin. He's supposed to be King...an embodiment of everything it means to be a dwarf. Instead he resembles more of a short Aragorn with facial hair. Blech. I don't think casual fans would have been turned off by "dwarfish" dwarfs at all.

IMO, they're entertaining
Bill L : 7/29/2014 10:05 am : link
But too little story for too much invested time and money. It's a one movie book and they should have kept it that way, IMO
I like Martin Freeman in these movies.
TheBigBlueOne : 7/29/2014 3:05 pm : link
I felt the best scenes in Desolation of Smaug was Freeman and Cumberbatch just talking. I love Sylvester McCoy in these movies.

However the Dwarves, I can't get into them. I can't name them other than Kili and Fili (good looking ones), Thorin (leader), Gloin (Gimli's dad), and Balin (Obi-Wan) but, that's a small issue and I'll learn their names in time.

Until that final fight scene, the Dwarves seemed pretty useless in a fight. Even in the first movie, they are captured by trolls, or spend their time running from Orcs. In the meantime the Elves ride out to meet the Orcs and put them down and drive them out. Dwarven uselessness is show again after they're captured by Spiders only for the audience to once again see the Elves decimate all those giant spiders and rescue the Dwarves. This happens again later on when Tauriel and Legolas just easily handle a horde of Orcs. Maybe the Dwarves should just hire Elves to go kill the dragon and just promise the gems that Legolas' dad wants.
