NFT: Knicks chat 7/29 (and a HS outdoes Jordan)

DanMetroMan : 7/29/2014 8:03 am

ESPN-

Outlook: The Knicks did upgrade at point guard by bringing in Calderon after Felton struggled mightily last season. Calderon also could be a much better fit in the triangle than the underachieving Felton. Calderon averaged 11.4 points, 45.6% shooting overall and made 44.9% of his shots from behind the three-point arc last season. He also averaged 4.7 assists for the Mavs. Felton shot just 39.5% from the field and 31.8% from three-point land. Prigioni shot 46.4% from behind the arc last season. With the Knicks going to a triangle this season, Calderon and Prigioni may be counted on for their outside shooting. Phil Jackson’s point guards in the past often were more spot-up shooters like John Paxson and B.J. Armstrong. The point guard that will make the biggest difference on the team is the one who is retired -– Derek Fisher. Even though he is coaching for the first time in his career, Fisher brings a wealth of championship experience, toughness and leadership. If Fisher can transfer that to the team from the sidelines, the Knicks’ point guard play can only get better after last season. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks/post/_/id/58125/position-analysis-point-guard

Though Rapaport thinks Lee is no longer relevant as a filmmaker, he noted the director’s importance to the Knicks, calling him the team’s unofficial mascot.

“Maybe, he’s gotta take off the orange outfit and just sit down and everybody will be cool,” Rapaport told SI.com. “We don’t have a mascot, so it’s good that we got Spike Lee. He comes, he shows up in the mini-skirt jerseys and all that stuff, and the orange hat, so it’s good because we don’t have a mascot. But I think Spike Lee has anointed himself the team mascot.”

Rapaport, who previously called Lee a “s–t stain” and called on Lee to insult him to his face, said he hasn’t seen him since the feud began.

biggest difference for this team...

should be the upgrade at PG and the upgrade at coach. Who knows if Fisher will be any good, but Woodson was horrendous so to me its an upgrade. I know Calderon's D will be an issue, but its not like Felton was some plus defender so we arent really losing much there.

Biggest difference part 2

I agree that the biggest improvement for the Knicks will be the upgrade at the PG position and the coach but I would also add:

--having an 11x coaching champion spending time at practices and with the team

--the maturation of THJ who looks ready to take a big step forward

--a healthy JR for the entire season

--more speed and athletiscm on the bench with Larkin and Early
I'm going to miss the predictable last play of the quarter

where Felton brings it up to a spot five feet beyond the top of the arc, pretends to look for a teammate, and hoists up a shot with six seconds left on the clock.

Good times.

Yup I'd say generally, the biggest difference will finally be some accountability. Guys like Jax and Fisher won't tolerate the kind of laziness and shenanigans we've seen all too often from Felton, JR Smith et al in recent times
Larkin is one of the quickest PGs in the league

with Fisher working with him, he will likely evolve into an excellent defender

44 inch vertical for a guy who is 5'10" and change. That's some kind of athleticism. He could dunk on an eleven foot basket

And with no wingspan, that's impressive
