...I wonder just how high on the Giants' priorities a TE will be in next year's draft? Not being a draftnik, I don't have a clear picture of who may be available, but it does pique my curiosity.
First, last year the rbs in Green Bay caught 62 passes while the non-utilized in the passing game Giants rbs caught 57.
Second, the offensive line is not mismatched for a West Coast offense. Even if you believe that the guards won't be effective pulling for screen passes, the tackles are more than athletic enough to get out there regularly. Plus as we saw with Gilbride, a good coordinator can easily adjust the play calling and blocking assignments for run plays to take advantage of this personnel. If the power guards match up well against the other team's interior line then the linebackers have to stay closer to home to honor the inside run threat.
I could be wrong, but I don't think the Giants will prioritize TE in next year's draft anymore than they did in this year's. It just never seems to be high on their list.
is simply less incomplete passes. Incomplete passes=wasted plays. Turn those deep incompletions into shorter (at times it will probably be much shorter) completions and there's more opportunities to make something happen.
We won't see as many homerun attempts from Eli this year but I'm hoping it's still part of the offense.
Walton and Mosely may not be perfect for pulling on screens, but I saw plenty of Schwartz highlights getting outside and blocking effectively for Charles on screens. He will be fine in this offense.
but I think Richburg fits this offense perfectly. Schwartz seems like the only guy who is more of a run blocker.
I also think McAdoo has really asserted himself, and Coughlin seems willingly to give him a shot. I don't think anyone expected a rookie OC to be this forceful about implementing his scheme.
A lot of discussion in the media that Philip Rivers turned his game
around last year and maybe Eli can do it this year, for example #3 in the article.
Well, the Chargers revamped their OL with two new OTs: King Dunlop, who flopped with the Eagles, and D. J. Fluker, a rookie RT. Also, they added a terrific rookie WR, Keenan Allen.
So, the Giants have brought in new players for the OL this year in Schwartz, Walton and Mosley/Richburg/Jerry. They've also added Beckham at WR, who, when healthy, could be terrific .
But Rivers had Antonio Gates at TE to go to. No TE on the Giants has anywhere near Gates' ability.
So, even if Beatty plays as well as Dunlop did and the rest of the OL jells and Beckham is as good as Keenan Allen, the lack of a Gates-type TE is going to hamper Eli. Apart from Robinson, IMO as a group the other Giants TEs are the slowest TEs in the NFL.

No it's not a good one. Both the scheme and the players mentioned are versitile. We don't really have a clear idea of the capabilities of either one so it is a bit early to say certain players can't do certain things or that certian things will be required of them
One big difference between the Packers and Giants offenses
The only position where the line's athleticism appears sub-par is LG, and that's only because the Giants have chosen to put their best RG there. Center is hard to assess, with Walton coming back from the long layoff. If he really isn't a good fit, the solution is already in the pipeline with Richburg.
I expect to see Beatty and Pugh in space a lot. Look how happy Pugh is in the new offense:

You're likely correct, but if this new offense does make more varied use of the TE (remains to be seen), that assumption may change. To be clear, I don't expect a first-round TE, but 2nd or 3rd round could be a distinct possibility depending on the talent available.
Watching Richburg pull really reminded me of Kevin Mawae and no other center in recent memory has reminded me of him. I'm not saying Richburg is the only center that can do that since Mawae just that I haven't noticed any other center.
I don't know for sure, of course, but I get the feeling that if the Giants didn't draft Weston Richburg, they might very well have drafted Troy Niklas or Jace Amaro. Robbieballs and I were going back and forth on this just prior to pick #43.
As for next year...I'll be keeping an eye on Ben Koyack, another Notre Dame kid; Ohio State's Jeff Heuerman; USC's Randall Telfer; Florida's Jake McGee (transfer from UVA); Oklahoma's Blake Bell (former QB). Five good prospects who could go in the premium rounds..
To the point of the passing attack. The objective of this offense is to get the ball to the play makers and let them do the dirty work. the quick passes and running game will draw more defenders close to the line and a salivating eli manning will hit them with bombs.
I like that the RBs are running routes and TEs being all over the place. it will be less predictable of an offense. i know our TEs are a weak point, but as long as they can just remember their assignments, it will help them. i am not too worried about the TE position. not now anyway. we have a bunch of no names as tight ends. i think this is a good thing. they will get less attention in the beginning and eli will find them in those important 3rd downs like he did will boss and ballard. Can't wait for sunday.

Thanks for the tips on prospects. I'll try to watch some of them.

Actually, the Chargers dumped their entire receiving corp from the year prior and added that Woodhead guy who is pretty good and caught 76 passes good for 6 td's.
Giants don't have a Gates type TE for Eli. Point blank, only three Tight Ends in the league who caught more passes than Gates. A lot of teams don't have that type of threat at TE and were able to get by. The Colts top pass catching TE had 52 catches while the super horrible Brandon Myers had 47. Fix the other elements of the offense and Eli will be fine. If the fixes don't work, then it won't matter who is at TE
fired their former OC after one year and brought in the current guy. I wouldn't expect much from MGee since Muskrat's philosophy is run on 3 downs if at all possible.
No idea why McGee would go to Florida, then. He can't block to save his life, which was the motivation for his departure. Bill Lazor didn't care when he was OC. Fairchild and Tom O'Brien did care, so they tried to make him an H-back. McGee didn't like it (and just hates O'B anyway) so he transferred.
come-back year. With all the changes on the Chargers OL and at WR, it helped him a lot that Gates was at TE.
I hope Eli has the best year of his career and we win the SB. But, if Beckham is hobbled because of his hamstring and Cruz is doubled, then Eli has only Randle to throw to because we don't have a TE who has stepped forward.
Big difference between Rivers' offensive weapons and Eli's at this point.

I understand what you are saying. But the Giants will likely also have a better running game to reply thanks to a improved line and backfield. Even if everything you described happens then Jerrigan gets more chances to prove himself so all will not be lost. Just a lot more difficult if the above happens which is a distinction which sometimes gets lost on the other BBI faithful posters
tight end and run smash mouth football.
It appears that there are some talented running backs on the team.
The hurry up offense will prevent the defense from substituting players.
Love the assumptions about the West Coast Offense we are running

Seriously, though, it should be fun to watch.

We've seen that with the previous offense too.

I'm really optimistic, but this is a concern. So far his camp is reason for optimism
