Richburg is playing RG; Herman is playing C; Reynolds is playing LG; even Schwartz is giving his all in the name of versatility- he's playing LG although he's always played on the right side. (BTW I wish one of the beat writers would ask TC why Schwartz is playing LG and not RG).

So, John Jerry has played "some" OT (don't know how much). Why not try him at LT to see if he can back-up Beatty and to see how versatile he is? LT puts a premium on pass-blocking and he is reputed to be a good pass-blocker although reputedly not so good on run blocking.

I'd like to see him play LT in the pre-season when Eli is not in the game.

but pass-blocking as a guard is MUCH different than outside on the edge at left tackle. Jerry is way too top heavy to play left tackle in the NFL and does not have the foot work to block edge rushers.

Charles Johnson is a far superior option as a backup to Beatty.

Jerry is competing for the starting RG spot

He has also missed all of the OTA's and minicamps so they are probably just focusing him on RG for now. They may give him some time at LT later on especially if he appears to be losing the battle for the starting guard spot.

on an emergency basis. Don't really know how well he did, but I don't expect he was anything more than serviceable at best.

Still, he is another possibility as an OT backup if the G-men get desperate. He can't be any worse than Brewer or the journeyman gong show they have going at OT behind the starters.

because of Beatty. I think the coaching staff thinks Beatty will play better having a good veteran guard right next to him.

If Jerry doesn't start somewhere, he will be the #1 backup everywhere.

They don't have anyone else who has started in the NFL (except Reynolds) and Jerry has started at 4 spots.

get the vibes that this OL is becoming a unit already. Enthusiastic young guys and new vets getting on the same page. We need that to make this thing work.
