going to be 32 when the season starts. I guess a 3 year extension would make sense if the price is right, but longer than that doesn't seem logical. Hoping for a 3/12 extension, but I fear it is something like a 4/20 extension or worse.

That is my one concern as well. Lou has signed too many aging players to long deals that end up hurting the cap.
I like it depending on the term

Greene has just been getting better and better, hasn't stagnated yet to begin his down turn. Doesn't have a lot of miles on his body and is rather durable. He's the type of defenseman that can play until he's close to 40.

If they ripped up his last year, I'd be more Ok with it. But he is essentially now signed to a 6 year deal for 28.5 million - that is a hefty deal for a 32 year old. I like Greene, agree he doesn't have as much mileage as others - but I think they are taking on too much risk. They could have let him play out this year and still gotten him for the same deal, I can't see him getting more on the open market than that.
signing him now to this deal

or at the end of hte season makes no difference.

He'd easily get more on the open market if he was to go that route. Took a discount to stay with the team.

After seeing the term i like the deal big time, he's a huge part of this team.
