Lester being sought by Cards and Pirates with Dodgers still in the mix.

Ryan Ludwick is apparently on the block. Has an option for next year, at 36 would be a youth movement for the Yanks.

Ned Coletti says Matt Kemp will not be dealt.

The Phillies are apparently asking too much for just about everyone.

Ok. I was kinda hoping that Refsnyder could give us that performance at 2B for less than 11 million per.

Both Refsnyder and Prado can play RF
Good Prado replaces

Roberts at second. Not sure what the long term plan is for refsnyder now unless they don't resign headley.

Sure, but neither of them will hit enough for it to make sense next year.
Prado doesn't affect Refsnyder's long term prospects
Greg from LI : 7/31/2014 4:28 pm : link
Prado can play several positions and would be a handy utility guy.

It's funny. I've always looked at him as "Jay Buhner" and now the Yankees have traded him. I mostly wanted Refsnyder to get a chance at second and now he won't.
I could see prado
sinctybldh : 7/31/2014 4:32 pm : link
Keeping third warm until jagielo is ready.
Prado has played 1 game in RF in his life.
Shockeyisthebest80 : 7/31/2014 4:33 pm : link
OTOH, Girardi had no problem allowing Soriano to embarrass himself in RF.
Adames
DanMetroMan : 7/31/2014 4:33 pm : link
changes the price package a bit, I've seen quite a few experts REALLY like him.

And you know he wont get a chance at 2nd base how?
he's played 252 games in left field
Greg from LI : 7/31/2014 4:37 pm : link
It's not as if moving from left to right is that goddamned hard. Might not be ideal, but give me a break.
Prado is versatile...
Dunedin81 : 7/31/2014 4:38 pm : link
bat has suffered, should recover a bit in YS. Fine with the deal, a sell-high on O'Brien. First deal I've seen in awhile that had a multi-year horizon.

Prado has almost exclusively been LF. Regarding his ability to play RF, Cashman said, "That's what we're going to find out."

I don't "know" he won't. That's true. But Prado's best position is 2B, our OF is full and the only other spot is third, where he's not much of a bat.

It does look like this year he'll be playing RF and Drew will be playing second? A sub-600 OPS and a sub 700 OPS. Woo hoo!

Cashman said Pineda will start Sunday for Scranton in a rehab game.

Why
MookGiants : 7/31/2014 4:46 pm : link
is everyone in the media drooling over themselves about the Lackey trade for the Red Sox. Even when Craig was playing well he was overrated (barely above 2 WAR in his best years) and he's 30 and complete garbage this year. He also makes decent money. It's an OK return with him and kelly but nothing special.

Brian Roberts
Bake54 : 7/31/2014 4:46 pm : link
2 plate appearances short of collecting $250,000
very happy

Yankees got better and kept their best prospects. Those price rumors had me nervous.
Martin
DanMetroMan : 7/31/2014 4:48 pm : link
Prado is a very solid player, versatile and considered one of the hardest workers, best teammates in the game. He's a throwback Yankee. He would have been beloved with Jeter, Bernie etc group. They gave up a guy who at BEST will head somewhere and be a solid DH/1b.
I am assuming

Pineda will need a month of rehab starts before he joins the yankees.

Just get the guy healthy for a change and I'll be happy. I suspect if hes throwing 65 pitches he'll be ready after two more starts at the latest if we need him.
The gift of towers - he turned justin Upton

Mook
DanMetroMan : 7/31/2014 4:56 pm : link
I both agree and disagree with you. Craig was overrated when he was good, Kelly has a great arm but isn't a great pitcher (could be a 4-5 or a good pen arm worst case) but Craig at 25 million over 3 years could end up being a pretty solid bargain. Craig's previous 3 seasons before 2014 he was worth 35.5 million using WAR (or about 12 per), if he bounces back to that level or close he's a nice player and Kelly is solid too. They didn't get some ridiculous return but for a 36 year old Lackey they did pretty well.
Drew is more versatile than Johnson because he can play SS
Greg from LI : 7/31/2014 4:58 pm : link
That's the main reason it's a decent trade. They needed someone who can even pretend to hit at a major league level (IOW, not Brendan Ryan) at short behind Jeter.

Stephen Drew's offensive season makes Derek Jeter's season look like Troy Tulowitzki's
He's still a better hitter than Ryan
Greg from LI : 7/31/2014 5:03 pm : link
.
Drew has actually started to hit in the last couple weeks
WeatherMan : 7/31/2014 5:06 pm : link
267/377/511 with a near normal 303 BABIP in his last 13 games. That power wont hold but he'll probably be a serviceable hitter the rest of the way, I'm glad he's gone because I wanted X at short the whole damn year
the hope is that Drew
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/31/2014 5:07 pm : link
bounces back after sitting out into the season over his contract demands. Perhaps he was also frustrated that the team he rejoined was the team who didn't pay him commesurate to his expectations. Maybe NY opens things up for him. That's the hope, anyway.
Yeah, but he's not better than Roberts or Johnson
BeerFridge : 7/31/2014 5:07 pm : link
That's the one I don't get. Unless they're auditioning him to sign next year, which is an idea I don't like either. Prado is a good deal.

have zero doubt Capone is legit and the Morales deal cemented that for me.
of coure the A's were shopping Cespedes
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/31/2014 5:16 pm : link
he has the image of a superstar and the production of just a good player. His OBP is .298 over the last two seasons. That is horrific. This type of "shopping" is Billy Beane's bread and butter.
