Fantasy Draft Strategy

Mr. Nickels : 7/31/2014 4:13 pm
3 keeper 10 team league half ppr.

Keepers: Adrian Peterson Jamaal Charles Jimmy Graham (4th round price)

Trade: Have a deal in place to trade Eddie Lacy for the first pick of Round 3. Rounds 1 and 2 are reserved for keepers. Round 3 is essentially Round 1 of the draft minus 20 players.

I pick 8th.

Strategy wise my plan is to re-draft Demaryious Thomas (who was also on my team last year) with the first pick of the draft.

Question: What do I target with my second pick (8th pick of the draft)WR2 Flex RB or QB? I lean towards WR2 in Rd 3 Flex RB in Round 5 and QB in Round 6 or even later.

WR2 - BPA of Brandon Marshall Jordy Nelson Victor Cruz?

Or Flex RB? Is it too early to take Andre Ellington? I am very high on Ellington and want him back on my team this year. I had Ellington on my team too and COULD keep him for the cost of a 9th round pick. However given that I have AP Charles Graham (AND Lacy who I am trading) I have no room for him.

Would you try and trade Ellington for a pick as well? If not what round should I target him for? Graham will cost my 4th so would the 8th pick in Round 5 be too late to get him?

I feel like spending a 3rd when I could keep him for a 9th is foolish value but if I can't utilize that value maybe trade him to someone who can.

I also could keep AP Charles Ellington and redraft Jimmy Graham but then I definitely have no shot at Demaryious.

My goal is to keep as many of these players as possible on my team from last year.

Waiting on QB. This year I wait on QB.
Luck Stafford RGIII Wilson Foles Brady Ryan should all be available. (Chance that RGIII gets kept).

Stay away from Brady again? He is ranked 10th so waiting to pick my QB last gets me Tom Brady or Matt Ryan. I love Ryan this year after last year's hype, a healthy Julio Jones should re-energize him. Plus there is even Rivers and Cutler.
Weird league...

for you to have AP, Charles, Lacy and Jimmy...

having said that, I would keep Lacy over Thomas every day of the week. You can never have too many running backs with injuries and matchups. no flex?
It is a lot to sort through

I like your strategy. I would go with Nelson or Cruz over Marshall. I like Marshall a lot but he is getting older. As far as QB goes, I agree with waiting ok a QB but if Stafford is still available when you pick you have to seriously consider him.
I agree with your keepers

and going Demaryius with that first pick. I'd rather go with one of those WRs over Ellington at that spot, you'll be able to get a flex option more similar to Ellington than a #2 WR similar to Marshall/Nelson with your 5th rounder.
my keepers

last year were AP Charles and Graham and I drafted Demaryious Thomas and Eddie Lacy (and Ellington) in the draft.

So technically I could keep whoever I drafted. But I don't want to change my 3 from last year. So I can trade the players I am not keeping to a team that doesn't have anybody worth keeping in exchange for draft picks.

How early is too early for Ellington? Depends on pre-season?

I sort of agree on taking Stafford but I definitely will take Thomas first.

Thank you. This is exactly my strategy.

Go WR WR. Then my 5th and 6th will be close enough to each other that I go RB and QB there.
J. Charles

lost at least 60% of his O-line not sure I'd want risk that.
and the KC "D" has taken some serious hits as well but that aside...

I'd be targeting Montee Ball. I believe he will be the steal of the draft.

I have faith in Charles in Reid's system. He does the bulk of his damage catching the ball anyway. He is a no brainer keeper for me.

I actually had Ball on my team at one point too when he was dropped but I also dropped him. He passed through a couple teams and now is looking like a good keeper for one team only costing a 9th. Honestly he did not look impressive last year. He has a golden opportunity though for sure.
In a 3 keeper

league how can you keep 3 players and trade a 4th (Lacy) if I understand what you're saying for a pick.

In most leagues you can trade keepers for picks but they count as a keeper if you know what I mean.

Am I misunderstanding what you're suggesting or do you really have 4 keepers?

We still have the rosters leftover from end of last season. We can designate keepers a week before the season starts. So I can trade anybody on my roster for picks. The team that takes Lacy basically pays twice but teams will do that to get their hands on a top 5 back
that's cool I guess

I had a team two years ago with Peyton Manning (coming off his neck injury - 7th round), Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin, Jimmy Graham, Brandon Marshall and Dez Bryant. I was undefeated - to top all this off I picked up Alfred Morris just before week 1 kick-off when it was announced he was the starter over Evan Royster. I wound up trading him for Percy Harvin which sucked, but that year everything worked out for me.

I could have traded a bunch of those guys for picks.

But in our league you can only trade a guy if you keep him. I kept AP and Doug Martin in one of the worst decisions of my fantasy football life.

So in your league I could trade Lacy, but I could only then keep two others.

yeah

seems strange to me but we don't have that.

I may look to deal Ellington too and just stockpile picks. I really like him but I think he is going to rise. He is very valuable as he costs cheap.
