Wouldn't he have been a perfect fit for this semi west coast offense? Why judge Brandon negatively because he was brought into an offense that didn't fit his skill set?
I lack a lot of knowledge on this topic but it crossed mind reading the Larry Donnell thread.
He didn't show he was worth anything close to that. Adios.
Yes, Brandon Myers might have been a little more productive in McAdoo's offense than Larry Donnell or the other guys they brought in. But that's not a sure thing, and he wasn't cheap. Besides which, he was unreliable last year. He's gotta go.
I guess the fact that he wasn't a good blocker didn't help either.
He's in CC Brown and Will Demps territory for me.
Even riding with the TE group they have now should be an improvement over him and it's not likely any one of them is going to be all that special either.
My favorite was Louis Murphy Jr
or Barret Green
Actually, to be fair, the OL is really to blame for eli having a bad year. There is no way eli plays that bad if he has 4 seconds to throw like brady or have the 49ers OL. as per the clip above, myers is not use to doing anything with the ball in his hands. he can just catch. that is it. the greatest thing he has ever done on the giants was the play against dallas where he caught a pass at the 8yrd line and no DB touched him and he showed awareness and ran in. his lack of YAC does not fit this offense. he cost about 3 million more than any other TE we have, that is why he is gone. Give eli time, he will make a cruz, boss, ballard, smith, manningham, nicks…shit, even derek hagan looked like a solid wr with eli.
oh, man...
Classic!!!!
+1
As always..
and the simple fact is, despite his limitations, which are many, Myers is a much better route runner and pass catcher than any TE on the roster
I'm also in the camp of resigning CC Brown, wherever he may be
I clearly remember Oakland fans saying similar, how a good chunk of his yards came in garbage time when the team was down.
Quote:
as much as I disliked the Myers acquisition. Now nobody can perform as poorly as CC Brown did at safety for the Giants but Myers was among the worst free agent signings by this team in some time. He was a terrible blocker and almost all of his receptions came late in games when the Giants trailed by multiple scores.

It's ALWAYS garbage time in Oakland.

My fantasy team supports this. It was amazing the numbers he was putting up for a five week stretch. It just so happened to be in non-competitive games.
Not a big target and not athletic enough to cause mismatch problems. Simply put - not hard to cover.
Decent hands and put forth the effort and improved while here, but never came close to overcoming the first two issues I mentioned.
but he sucked.
Who has been the best blocker amongst our all-pro Tight Ends in camp so far...anybody?

The only guy I've heard any good news about is Donnell.
Sunday night it will be something to watch for.
Considering that no one was bidding for his services, and almost everyone thought he was 'over rated' (hard to do when no one rates you as anything), it has to rank amongst the most fucked up deals I've seen recently. I know they did it because we were so tight against the cap last year, but in what world does Myers deserve 2 mil for one year, with it being almost guaranteed (outside him proving to be the greatest thing since sliced bread) that the contract was going to be voided?
