NFT: DirecTV - Sunday Ticket Renewal

WichitaGiant : 8/1/2014 10:01 am
Decided it was time to give them the yearly call to get a discount/freebie on Sunday Ticket. First lady I talked to wasn't much help at all. Told her the only reason I have DirecTV is because of the Sunday Ticket, and since they are charging me me $54.99/month for 6 months, I can't afford that and need to cancel. I told them I have another provider offering me a good deal on TV service as well as paying for my DirecTV cancellation fees (have like 10 months left on a contract). She offered me $10 off per month for the 6 months. Told her that wasn't good enough and I needed to know how many more months I have on my contract so I could tell Cox Communications since they are going to cover it. She couldn't pull up that information (yeah right), so she transferred me to Chelsea. I waited a few minutes for Chelsea to look up discounts for my account. She did say that she was going to remove the auto-renew first (maybe that affects what type of discounts you get, not sure) from my account. She came back and offered me 50% off the Sunday Ticket price, $10 off a month for 12 months, and a 1 time discount of $25. Bang, sign me up. She kept saying how she wanted to make sure they kept loyal customers like me (customer since 2007).

Just wanted to pass along this information for anybody else preparing for a phone call!
So I made my call last night

I got a great person on the phone. Now I will say I've been with DTV since 2001 that allowed me to get some additional discounts. So I got Sunday Ticket, NHL Center Ice, 1yr of Showtime and the HD Extra pack for free. I also got 3 months of Stars and 3 months of Playboy TV for free. They also are upgrading my equipment for free as well. My bill was about $110 a month for the extended basic package I've had for years, that is now $90 per month. I'd say I did pretty well!! Make the calls!!
I called yesterday and managed to get it down to

$16/month for the six months.

That's for ST only, I don't go in for the To Go portion.

I also cancelled Starz while I was at it, since I don't ever watch Starz or Encore. That should essentially make it a wash.
Oh, and I really had no room to negotiate as I

had already recommitted to 2 years earlier in the year when I upgraded to Genie.

So, them giving me any discount at all was going to be a bonus for me.

That's a good deal Wuphat. Been looking at getting game pass and it basically works out to the same price as you are getting directv for.

The only catch is if I did that same thing as a new customer - I would not get the equipment for free and would need to pay for installation.
How much is Directv

That's the catch. You cannot just buy the Red Zone. You have to buy Sunday ticket.
I had no intention of working out a deal

Ive gotten deals for years but sunday ticket just wasnt that important to me this year. Called to simply cancel the auto renew and did. They gave me 10 bucks a month off the bill for 12 months just because, I didnt even ask for it, and no strings attached

ive never had a bad experience with their customer service. Great company
One "strategy" is asking to cancel movie channels
Ben in Tampa : 8/1/2014 10:50 am : link
I do not watch any of those movie channels except HBO, so I called to cancel the rest. Every year they offer me some deal to keep them for cheap and also discount Sunday Ticket for me.

I really want to cancel those channels, but they sweet talk me into keeping them.
My strategy was to go in with a complete package in mind
mgreenie03 : 8/1/2014 11:19 am : link
what I said was I'm not looking to lower my bill, I was actually looking to raise it but get more service in return. I've never been much for the movie channels but I figured I would as for the premium package, all movie channels, Sunday Ticket and NHL Center Ice for $125 a month. I thought that was a very reasonable cost. No I didn't get what I was asking for but I go a very nice deal. I spent about an hour on the phone with them but I think it was well worth it.

My next call was to Comcast to lower my bill on Internet access, I was paying $44.99 per month, that is now $34.99 per month for 12 months. 30mbps down 5mbps up.
Nice deals for you guys. I got a good one for myself

I called saying I am loyal customer since 2001 and why does it seem only new customers get the best deals. First time around nothing even when I suggested that I was going to call another provider and switch. For record, I have a pretty loaded selection includind some premium channels plus sports. Anyway when I called back I was placed through to Chelsea. She was great. I ended up with Sunday Ticket for free with the red zone and ticket anywhere for one time $50 charge.
I was also offered upgrade of DVR to be able to record 7 programs or somethink like that at once for free. I passed on that because currently we record so many shows that we have had to drop some because of time constraints.
Again really a pleasure working with Direct TV but the other providers are starting to catch up on price.
Hope this helps.

Not exactly the case. I have had just red zone for a number of years running. Need to speak with a retention supervisor to have it added.
