...WCCC is changing formats from classic rock to contempory Christian...Thank God for internet radio, like radioio.com...Radio has been slowly dying anyway but this is still kind of a shock...
Even when WCCC played meathead Rock, it was at least entertaining at times, especially in the Stern years.
And, my lord, WPLR has shit the bed something awful. When I was growing up, they played basic classic Rock with some 'rarer' classic stuff thrown in (Head East, Fabulous Thunderbirds, old J. Geils, Grateful Dead, Jeff Beck, blues), and they played good new bands like the Jayhawks, Pride n' Glory, Wilco, Sass Jordan...in short, it wasn't just carbon copy classic Rock. It is now. They play about 10-20 bands tops. And, for fuck's sake, they play Green Day and Foreigner constantly.
(I complain because my commuter car antenna is broken and I get about 3 stations)
up WPLR was considered ahead of their time, annually on Rolling Stone Magazines top radio stations (if that means anything), they played all the newer bands before anyone else dead.
I moved out of CT in 1994, and drove through the state last year, and WPLR is still playing the same music.
they changed from one of the first alternative/rock stations to classic rock by never changing the play list.
it was kind of sad actually.
Next thing you know Toad's Place will turn into hipster bar.

Welcome to the South!!!
Except when they play "Best Day of My Life" and "On Top of the World". I almost want to just crash my car to end the pain.
