One of the things I didn't like about the Gilbride offense
BeerFridge : 8/1/2014 4:11 pm : link
was the lack of variety in the drop backs. Long drop backs to let these long route trees get decided and then throw. Works great with protection but also becomes more predictable for rushers. This will be an interesting change for the offense. The routes may become more predictable but where the QB is headed and when the ball comes out is less predictable.
Good stuff from Pugh.

Seems to be one of the new leaders of the OL. Chemistry is huge for that unit especially in a new offensive scheme.

Why is news day using a picture of Pugh blocking Rivers form last year OTAS?

I agree. I do like the mix of passing concepts discussed in regards to this new system. I can't wait to see this pre season game and the 4 others. I want to see how this offense looks.

I always liked Gilbride's offense, but the problem was with many of his plays, a lot of different things had to go right for the play to work
Gilbride's offense required the receivers to make too many reads.
GeofromNJ : 8/1/2014 8:38 pm : link
They had to read at the line of scrimmage, then read as they ran their pattern, and then decide whether to break left, right, run deep, curl in, etc. Eli had to make the same read. If the receiver and quarterback read differently, Eli held the ball and looked elsewhere or if under pressure, let it ride, hoping the receiver read as he did. If the offensive line held their blocks and the receivers were clever, the offense worked. If not, Eli either got sacked or threw an INT and then threw up his hands because the receiver misread the coverage.

All this said, I still think the primary issue for the Giants last year was not the offensive line, but the lack of a tight end. Letting Bennett go and thinking that Myers was an adequate replacement was not smart, IMHO.

I think if TE Bennett had remained a Giant we would have been better BUT clearly the OL sucked. If Baas and Snee had played the whole year adequately we'd have won the division.
