No fracture for Bennett Jackson, but significant sprain...

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/1/2014 3:22 pm
I'm assuming high ankle?

Bennett Jackson does not have a fracture, but he does have "significant" ankle sprain #Giants

a different thread, somebody reported that it wasn't considered to be serious.
He will be stashed on IR

Welcome to the team again Charles James! This is why you want all the depth in the secondary and elsewhere. Injuries will sort out a lot of the bubble spots unfortunately

he is a likely IR stash. He has some talent but CB is crowded this year.
I don't think he had much of a chance to contribute this year

anyway. Most likely he would have redshirted unless there were some string of injuries. McBride and James are your CB 5 and CB6
McBride will be the 4th corner
Greg from LI : 8/1/2014 3:47 pm : link
DRC, Prince, Thurmond, McBride
Could have contributed on Special Teams, I bet.
BeerFridge : 8/1/2014 3:48 pm : link
but a good candidate for an IR stash

Where does Bowman fit in?
McBride, Bowman and James

are all fighting for spots behind the top 3 guys. I would imagine they keep 5 so somebody is a future cut.

Would we ever keep 6?
They've been keeping six

Jackson is probably #8 at the moment.
Hosley is there too but he doesn't count
Jimmy Googs : 8/1/2014 4:02 pm : link
as a roster spot since he is suspended at beginning of season. This may have saved his job, at least in the short term.
Trade bait

Late rounder if they make it through camp or a TE.
Defense probably gets 25 roster spots.

Most likely allocation seems to be:
DL 9 (Unless Bromley gets redshirted with a hangnail)
LB 6
DB 10

Standard allocation of 25 on offense would be:
QB 2
RB/FB/TE 8
WR 6
OL 9

You can play around a little with 'tweeners like Taylor and Kennard, or phase out the fullback, or try to use the practice squad to park young players who would be inactive on Sunday and can clear waivers. But realistically, if you want an 11th DB, you have to skimp somewhere.

Bowman might be the most direct beneficiary of an injury to Jackson, because it would make him pretty clearly the #1 gunner. Some of the young safeties could make a mark there too. James is a smallish cover guy, so I see him more in competition with McBride (and, eventually, Hosley) than with Jackson.

I see 11 DB and 5 LB at some point on this roster.
