like to see him succeed. He's a knucklehead. He's not Michael Vick. But even if he becomes a HOF player, I will always think the Giants were right to cut him.

but it's more likely he tests positive yet again and loses a year which probably ends his career.
Someone we grow to count on then gets suspended. The latest wasn't his first and will definitely not be his last. As Torrag said Good Luck to him, but I don't want the Giants to take that chance anymore.

Stupid or not it is the rule and Hill knows it. Stupid is knowing your employer is going to test you and yet you still test positive.
A free roster spot and then what? He tests positive again and you're screwed. Or maybe, just maybe, he doesn't test positive and he has a great career. The problem with scenario number 2 is the Giants gave him a chance and he basically threw it in their faces.
He should thank his lucky stars(and the Giants)he latched on with another team.
Then that would change my opinion about him. I do feel the NFL is wrong about testing for Marijuana. What happened with Ray Rice is far worse and what Diehl did with his DWI as well.
Everybody likes what they see with with Will Hill.
It's what you don't see until the NFL hands down 1/3rd of the season suspensions that sucks.
If he as a person turns his life around, well then I guess the Giants will have egg on their faces. But, this guy has been getting extra chances and free passes since he was a big man on campus at Florida. He's not going to change his story. Why should he? Every time he screws up, someone's there to sign him and pay him more money.
"OXNARD, Calif. -- A couple of high-profile former Dallas Cowboys with controversial pasts will serve as members of Josh Brent's unofficial advisory committee as the defensive tackle attempts to make a comeback with the team.
Michael Irvin and Nate Newton, who are known for their starring roles on the Cowboys' three Super Bowl title teams in the 1990s and various off-field incidents, offered to be part of Brent's support system after his December 2012 arrest on intoxication manslaughter charges stemming from the crash that killed friend and teammate Jerry Brown Jr." Link - ( New Window )

wasn't just the pot. Anyone who saw Hill's instagram stuff or saw the story how he trashed his apartment knows that. He's a loser.
Given within the article itself Hill himself is quoted about people "looking after his mental health."
Loser IMO is a poor synonym for a young man with mental health issues. Which by Hill's account Coughlin himself seemed to acknowledge and want to help.

I hesitate to have sympathy and make excuses for a guy who had access to the kind of high quality help and support system that people with real problems could only wish for, and didn't really exhibit any desire to be helped.

I admit I didn't see his instagram. But you called Manningham a drug addict while u love LT. It seems like you hate marijuana smokers but will forgive the best that we got
Look...I've said since the day he was cut he was going to be a HUGE loss for the Giants. They will not be able to replace him.
But as is the custom in this country now - some of you guys want to make excuses for anyone who repeatedly fucks up.
Hill was given chance after chance, not just with the Giants. He is who he is. Some people are not redeemable. Is that harsh? Sure. Is it the truth? Yes.
Hill could go on and do very well with the Ravens. But if he does, it will be because they look the other way.
Regarding LT? He never had a special place in my heart. Phil Simms did. As good as LT was, he could have been so much better. Phil gave his all from day one.
I hesitate to have sympathy and make excuses for a guy who had access to the kind of high quality help and support system that people with real problems could only wish for, and didn't really exhibit any desire to be helped.
Hill had "real problems" too, although yeah sure he squandered a ton of help most unfortunates with mental health issues could only dream about getting...
getting rid of him. I know we're "a classy organization" but if that's the case than we should have continued to help him. Dude has a knack for the ball. We could have shaped him into a better man if we are such a great organization.
weird thing in our society now is we celebrate the criminal while mocking the choir boy.
True Eric, but with respect to redeem-ability I believe all humans are redeemable, though in Hill's case it may come after football. And yes, LT could have broken every record there is if he was a workout warrior who didn't drink or do drugs.
He was well aware of the teams expectations of him and he continually failed to met him. He developed a history of unreliability that the Giants were not willing to deal with.
That said, I wish they were. Kid is a goddamn killer and was the nest player on the Giants D last year. It's gonna be hard watching him become a top 5 talent at his position in that God forsaken purple...

Yeah it really is the better option to let him keep ignoring and flaunting the NFL rules because he might get lucky and only test positive after the season.
Obviously you have never played a team sport or worked in a job that demands teamwork.
Or maybe LT's personality would have been different and he wouldn't have met his potential a different way.
I was at LT's club one night when he was still playing and he was loaded with a beer belly sticking out. No doubt in my mind if he had the "Mike Singletary" approach he'd have devastated the NFL.

I always thought he did devastate the NFL.
But I would agree that he likely would have extended his career if he lived differently.

has a section called the National Institute of Drug Abuse. Here's what they write about it:
Quote:
Is drug addiction a mental illness?
Yes, because addiction changes the brain in fundamental ways, disturbing a person's normal hierarchy of needs and desires and substituting new priorities connected with procuring and using the drug. The resulting compulsive behaviors that override the ability to control impulses despite the consequences are similar to hallmarks of other mental illnesses.

Over his career, he constantly stated that he drank too much, did too many other things, whored too much and never took care of himself. He's a classic case of a guy that might have been considerably better if he cut out the nonsense. But in reality, he could have had a serious injury in his first game and turned into a just an asterisk on the roster section of the website.
Looking back at his last few seasons, he was spent.
thread box and October will be easy since that's when he's slated to return. November and December should be easy 'cause he'll either be playing great (told ya so - we shoulda kept him!) or out of the league with another drug suspension (told ya so - what a loser!).
My question is what are we gonna do about a September Will Hill thread?
just highlighted another problem in our society - equating pot smokers with violent, homicidal alcoholics, wife beaters and coke users. the idea that pot is on (or anywhere close to) that level is both comical and sad.
the point is not that the NFL should look the other way and allow players to smoke blunts on the sidelines. it's that the punishments are completely out of whack. 6 games for Will Hill, a year for Josh Gordon, etc.
I realize these are multiple offenders, but the NFL can still do a much better job and frankly, if they're at all concerned about players getting addicted to opiates, pot is about a million times better.
We are equating it breaking the law and rules. Simple, the NFL lays out the rules, same as the government...don't like the rule/law? Too bad. You can choose not to follow them, but you have to pay the piper. Hey I don't like the fact that I have to pay taxes and drive 55. I can choose not to, but I might have to pay the consequences.
I don't know...being in Baltimore isn't really setting yourself up for success if you have issues staying out of trouble. And it's not like Baltimore is that far from NYC. I'm sure he'll have his old crew coming down to partake in the shithole that is Baltimore.

Being suspended for continuously failing tests for recreational drugs when you know in advance when the tests are makes you a f*cking moron.
You can't preach team first and accountability and allow this kind of behavior. He had to go.

Dude was given every chance by the Giants to straighten out his life & pissed each one away.

Shouldn't interfere if a guy has a drinking problem either....so what if he kills someone because he is drunk?
So what if he beats up his wife...
So what if he uses a little cocaine, as long as he can suit up on Sundays....
The NFL should stop being an intervention machine, because as we all know, these guys are capable of policing themselves....
the point is not that the NFL should look the other way and allow players to smoke blunts on the sidelines. it's that the punishments are completely out of whack. 6 games for Will Hill, a year for Josh Gordon, etc.

Really. Fuck him. It's not hard to avoid testing positive. We saved him off the scrap heap and he repaid it by being a shithead.
Not exactly the reliable-type of guy that one would bet on...
I hope he doesn't come back to bite us down the road.
