Eli last night...I don't get sweeping statements from some..

Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/10/2014 5:06 pm
about how Eli didn't look comfortable.

He threw two passes.

On one, Jernigan ran up the field while Eli expected him to stop for a back-shoulder throw. (sound familiar those who think Gilbride was the issue?) To me, it looked like Jernigan messed up, not Eli.

His only other throw was a rollout pass with Jernigan the intended receiver by JJ couldn't get open.

From this, we get, "Eli doesn't look comfortable."

A week after his was 6-of-7 in the short passing game.

I've said all along that I'm not sure Eli is the right fit for this offense, but he hasn't had a problem with it yet. JJ has. (And so did Randle incidentally on another play where he also took his pattern up the field and Nassib expected him to break it off).

and by the way, maybe John Mara understands now why Jernigan wasn't play so much.

if Beckham is the real deal and as long as Cruz fits in with this offense, we'll be fine. But we need Randle to stop making stupid freaking mistakes.

they didn't draft Beckham, we'd be in trouble. So those saying we shouldn't have drafted a WR in the first round, I don't understand that either.

In reality we needed two 1st round picks because Reese has screwed this team up so bad.
Cruz
dep026 : 8/10/2014 5:24 pm : link
has to turn into a go to receiver. And ODB has to make plays downfield. I am afraid we will not get back plays from our TE. Jerrigan/Randle are just huge question marks.

You wonder if a guy like Harris or Washington will get some reps with the 1s.
ironically...

JJ wasn't exactly.the only WR getting this reaction from Eli in recent years.

it appears that Jernigan and Randle

are both as dumb as a bag of hammers.
Jernigan

you don't take a complimentary WR with the 12 pick (and what should have been top 10 pick after last season's train wreck)

And that is what Beckham will be to Cruz. A deep threat to take the coverage off of Cruz.

Eric - do we get any compensatory picks for losing Wilson to injury?

Odell Beckham wasn't drafted to be a complimentary target. That's an absurd statement.

And you know this, how? Beckham has yet to play a game.
He is Nicks
Mr. Nickels : 8/10/2014 5:48 pm : link
replacement. Nicks was basically a compliment to Cruz. Cruz is our top WR. Beckham is our deep target stretch the field WR. Cruz does it all. Beckham remains to be seen but he probably will do a little bit of everything too and could be amazing himself. But as of now, as a rookie, he will take the coverage off of Cruz.
Randle has not been as
BigBlueDownTheShore : 8/10/2014 5:52 pm : link
Advertised. He really blew it last year. He never seemed to be on the same page with Eli. Hopefully this year he will improve with less reads involved, but otherwise we have Cruz as the only proven commodity.
So hard to tell
geemanfan : 8/10/2014 5:54 pm : link
On that first pass , because the Steelers sent a corner blitz that went unblocked and it looked like Eli was just getting rid of it.
beckham
dep026 : 8/10/2014 6:02 pm : link
has the ability to surpass Cruz sooner than people think.

bc4life : 8/10/2014 6:03 pm : link
So, according to TC it (miscommunication)was a huge problem.
Mr. Nickels
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/10/2014 6:05 pm : link
I don't understand that logic at all.

Nicks wasn't a complement he was a dangerous weapon for a few years. Was he a complement in the 2011 playoffs?

Using your logic, you cay say Cruz was a complement to Nicks.

All players complement each at some level.

But Beckham is a weapon, not some sort of secondary target.

"I don't get sweeping statements from some.."

Uh, this is BBI. This is where we have fans writing off the 2014 team in mid-March.
What are people expecting?
Dave in N.Westchester : 8/10/2014 6:19 pm : link
When the owner says the offense is "broken" you sit up and take notice. The assessment the offensive scheme, the wr ,rb , offensive line,te an qb. Play need upgrading. So they change EVERYTHING (except for Eli) and people expect a seamless improvement right off the bat? In Madden maybe but not in the real world. And certainly not everyone all together at the same rate.

Objectively the talent pool for the OL is younger and healthier improvement is to be expected bur who knows when. I like the RB position better I would expect the running game to be better at SOME point. Every passing attack works off the #1. I don't see Randle as being a #1 that's why they drafted Beckham. Slot receivers are not #1 s that's why the salary structure is different. Having ODB on the shelf is retarding the growth of the new passing attack. It may be awhile before we see what the coaches have in mind.

My conclusion is this team will be much better by seasons end than they are now. Let's hope that's soon enough.

The Giants had a great group of WR that constituted the core of the corp.

Randy in CT : 8/10/2014 7:12 pm : link
dopey statements.

yes, every other player in the draft is better than Beckham and after Nicks pathetic 2013 season, we certainly didn't need a WR.

And OB's hammy is an indictment of poor drafting I guess?
What?

I cannot wait for September to come.
Here's a problem with preseason games
Gman11 : 8/10/2014 7:40 pm : link
How often have you seen a team do nothing in an entire half and then come out in the second half and tear it up? It happens. Well, in a preseason game, that doesn't happen because by the middle of the second quarter the scrubs are in.

Still, there are things to worry about even though I'm not as worried about the WR situation as some. I think Randle can be a good #3 and I hope that's what position he ends up in.

The things that worry me are the offensive line and TE. Yeah, I know everybody says that the offensive line needs time to jell and all that crap. When you are beat like a drum like Brown did last night, no amount of jelling is going to help. Pugh looks less than ordinary and I think they were counting on him to be a bit more than that. Schwartz and Walton look like what they are - journeymen offensive linemen. I don't see where any of the new guys is a step up over Boothe.

As for TE....uh...we all know what we have at that position and it's not much.
Speaking of receivers,
barens : 8/10/2014 8:41 pm : link
I know there has been a great deal of buzz regarding Washington and Harris. And someone brought up there lack of special teams contributions, but what about Jernigan's special team contributions?
Eric- not sure why this is a big deal but
Jimmy Googs : 8/10/2014 9:02 pm : link
he looks kind of unsettled to me. From play #1 in the Bills game where they were having trouble lining up correctly, to letting go passes he knows don't get first downs to having to run the ball on 3 and forever.

No QB wants to see an offense struggle and Eli holds his tongue as always, but his face is easily read.

I imagine a few nice strong throws for completions and maybe a TD will cure all.

maybe next week...

Didn't Eli go 6/7 against the Bills?

Almost a fucking joke to read these posts. Imagine if we would have got blown out, and I have seen that in the pre season and then it all turn around in the regular season. But all is lost, Reese is an idiot, Coughlin still loves Gillbride so much that he fucked up the team. On and on it goes, and we have idiots telling us how great Donald is, they still think he should have been the pick. They just want to show everyone how smart they are, instead of just watching our team and actually cheering for them. What a fucking fan base.
