He's trying to get in on special team practice, to make himself more valuable, but it doesn't sound like he has a ton of experience at it.

The problem is, if he keeps showing up in preseason games, it's going to be hard to keep him stashed on the practice squad. And if we keep him, we have to let a more experience receiver go. It's not a great problem to have.
Different type of player than Cruz.
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/11/2014 5:11 pm : link
I see no reason why he can't hang on the roster at the 4th or 5th WR spot.

They need some size in that group. Keeping CW keeps it balanced.

By Odell, do you mean Randle/JJ. Odell isn't going anywhere (and he had a 1-handed show stopper today)...

Odell was drafted to play the X receiver.
If we could keep Barden on the roster for as long as we did

I'd rather have that problem, than trying to figure out which player to keep out of 2 shitty options (i.e. last years OL)
It's nice to read he had a great practice.
Exit 172 : 8/11/2014 5:18 pm : link
But it's his continuing to make measurable impacts in preseason games that interests me far more.

If he does anything noteworthy on Saturday (especially another TD), I think a roster spot is his to lose, special teams contributions be damned.
I think Washington can absolutely contribute on Specials
beatrixkiddo : 8/11/2014 5:19 pm : link
he is fast for a big guy ; 4.5 speed.

He was a punt returner in College, it's not foreign to him. The kid has shown continous improvement, and at 6'4 you don't let him slip through your fingers if he only keeps on getting better.
This
AcidTest : 8/11/2014 5:20 pm : link
is what's great about camp. Players who come from nowhere that end up making the final 53.

It would be great if he can play ST, but not being able to won't be enough to keep him off the roster IMO. Right now he's behind Cruz, Randle, OBJ, and JJ at most. And his size and performance in camp and the two preseason games might even put him ahead of JJ.

when the guys higher on the depth chart aren't making noticeable waves, it makes it much easier for the young guys to possibly grab a spot. I think this is definitely a season where we may see turnover for at least one maybe two. I think Washington will make it as it stands today.
Start him next game
deadkurtrulz : 8/11/2014 5:58 pm : link
and see what he can do vs first string. He has looked good in practice and playing against scrubs. Not what he will be facing during the season. He has earned a shot and Giants can give him Randle's reps this week. We already know what Randle can/cannot do. Maybe it will light a fire under RR.
JJ is miscast as an outside WR

Washington was making plays all practice and against Prince. The defense went so far to actually double team him prince and Rolle.

To be fair, other than 2/3 games, Jernigan has so far been miscast as anything of note in the NFL.

Even Sinorice and Ramses had games or stretches that people overvalued and came out sure that they just had to be good at something, only for it to turn out the larger body of work (including practices) showed the truth about them.

Washington will make the roster. He's doing in practice; (that what TC likes) BTW against top caliber Corners.

Then when he's on the field no matter who the QB is the guy is making plays plain and simple.

Really guys what else can he do?

If he doesn't make this squad then something is wrong with the talent evaluator and/or the person making the decisions regarding the final roster.
Schmeelk has him earmarked for the PS

about 40 times and heights and weights, but one overlooked talent that all great WRs have is the ability to adjust to the ball in the air and attack it.

Sounds like Washington has this ability in spades (as well as speed and height).

Giants might have struck gold

COrey Washington is a X receiver. Playing him as Z makes little sense because it takes away his ability to play 1 on1 and highpoint the ball down the field.

We drafted Odell because of his RAC and downfield ability to seperate. The good news for Odell is that it seems like he's got enough route running ability to play the Z, but the problem lies in that if you slide down Odell to Z that really takes away reps from JJ/Randle who are perfect Z receivers.

Either Corey Washington is reduced to playing redzone or he becomes a 2-3 route specialist out of the Z.
Big WRs that demonstrate any ability to play get poached

I doubt he'd last long if they tried to 'stash' him.
