Are we seeing 3 WR sets......which I suspect will be their base offense. will we see Washington do anything against their #1s. It would be nice to see some sustained success on offense.....but I we need Odell on the field.
I said "want". The Giants need him to recover quickly or Eli is dead. A couple series of solid performance without asking him to play too long would make me very happy.
10 years into his career and this type of stupid still exists.
Newsflash: You, from your couch or chair, will have zero clue as to what a player's leadership is or isn't. And given Manning's temperament and career play path, you will have zero clue as to what his confidence is or isn't. Both regardless of whether the Giants' offense looks good or bad.
He can take some blame...he is not immune to criticism though some on this board don't agree
For his play, absolutely, because you can at least TRY to evaluate that, as you can actually see him do things like throw the ball into double coverage or slide in the pocket right into a sack/fumble.
not a very good team right now. They have shown zero ability to move the ball against 1st teamers. They have a few weeks to get it fixed but I thought we would be better than this.
different names, same results (yes I know, very small sample size). I dont care you you have as WRs, RBs, etc... If the O-line sucks, then the offense sucks.
if the guys up front are physically out-matched, then there is nothing you can do. Would rather get a better players on the O-line and a new strength and conditioning program vs change the scheme.
1) the quick snap QB keep for a first on 3rd and 1.
2) the step- up to avoid the sack (Eli gets sacked there without a doubt, probably fumbles) and moving forward throwing an accurate strike to Nicks for a first down.
3) the quick awareness and side arm delivery angle to Whalen ( wouldn't even be in the top 3 receivers for NYG) for the TD before Rolle even knew the ball was released.
This is what a franchise QB looks like. And a competent offense.
The bigger shame may end up being that Reese will have a significant say in who the next HC would be, in that situation.
JR's definitely going to get a chance to pick his own HC/QB duo and, given how things have been going for him the recent years, that doesn't really inspire a ton of confidence in the next era.
I love Eli, I really do, he will forever hold a place in Giants fans hearts with those 2 Super Bowls, but please, anyone who has a question about his play is considered nuts. That is denial

You're sensing whatever the hell you want to sense. Given that he kept chucking the ball to the other team without hesitation last year, still expecting to make big plays and his have his crappy surrounding talent make them, in reality, his confidence couldn't have been that bad (though I don't know him to judge it, just like I can't judge his leadership from my office chair).
Criticize him for his INT that wasn't last drive. Quit with this intangibles nonsense that makes you look like a fool.
I have been in the camp of give this guy space based on the fact that the Giants have one 2 superbowls the last few years...but letting Hakeem Nicks walk and then sign for 1 year and $3.5 million is a major screw up...starting to wonder about Reece now...the could have signed Nicks and use the #1 on Martin or Donald
He took a pay cut, sure, but by not bringing back Tuck, they had a hole on the DL (which, granted, may end up being one big hole this year if JPP can't re-find his form against most odds) and need a starter, which they gave Kiwi that contract in the first place to eventually be.

It's one pre-season game.
I'm not Jerry Reese's biggest fan, but let's hold off on anointing Hakeem Nicks the Hakeem Nicks of 2011 and how the team should have just forgotten how he dogged it last year for them and his issues with the staff.
the could have signed Nicks and use the #1 on Martin or Donald
oh shut up. Most people (including myself) wanted Nicks gone. You could not sign him for that kind of money given his performance last year and injury history. You also cannot watch what he is doing tonight and expect that he would..
A. play like this for the giants
B. play like this all year.
We cant block shit, doesnt matter if you bring in Demps automatically going to get worse with the blocking and coaching of Tom Quinns unit...still around, ridiculous.

Part of the problem is also that the Giants lack depth (hell, they lack NFL quality starters in some places) and STs is often where you'll see that depth of talent be a factor.
RE: RE: We Giant fans are normally extremely optimistic
We are usually "glass half full" types. But this team looks so bad that it's impossible to lie to yourself.
Okay, maybe I am referring to myself. I AM ALWAYS A GLASS-HALF-FULL type of guy. But this preseason is dumping out any liquid in that "glass" into the sink.
They look horrible and I have ZERO expectations from them now. 4-12 is what this feels like.

Are people still arguing this?
If you concede the team is not tremendous talented from 1 to 53, why would you expect the special teams to be good?
I know that 1 through 26, the roster isn't all the great. Whether 27 to 53 is markedly improved is TBD. If it isn't, the special teams will continue to stink.
good pass block by Williams on that (almost) interception

there is no inherent talent needed to block on ST, not much, its effort, coaching and technique oriented.

And cowardly play call on 3rd and 7. What's the chance at converting on that run call? Tom / Ben, dont'cha need to practice on converting throws on 3rd and 7 for the regular season? Or are you going to run it then too?
This staff is out of touch from the rest of the league in 2014. Stuck in the last generation. That got us through 2011 in glorious fashion, but clearly things are different now even just 3 season later.
I agree. This is pre-season. This is where you practice those situations. Running in that spot is like you are trying to protect a lead in a regular season game.
I really wonder how much Coughlin impacts the game day play calls. Not that he is making the call but he may say "I want a run here".
They just hired a new young visionary OC who is calling their plays.

Giants showed in the first preseason game in Pittsburgh last year they couldn't protect the QB.
That proceeded to be the main theme of most of the 16 games last season.
Some things you can foresee early.
Past, have you seen any sign of a new style offense? RE: Pssst

It takes time. Add to that the team has a lot of holes and this is obviously a team in transition.
That doesn't mean that the offense won't begin to click at some point. A little patience is in order.
Steve, I don't get concerned with communication issues and other things that can get ironed out soon enough. What bothers me is when our guys are physically out matched at the line of scrimmage. Strength is not something you can fix before the season starts. Speed is not something that will improve for our players. Did you see 6 guys on our special teams fail to tackle their punt returner even though we had the angle on him?

I'm sorry, but I disagree. That's what people were saying last year and the offense stunk all season. Not being able to block is not being able to block no matter if it's a new offense or not. Receivers not being able to get open is not because of a new offense. A first team offense not able to get a first down without a defensive penalty is an omen of what's to come during the regular season.

Playing mind games with the other teams, They are purposely playing bad to develop a false sense of security in other teams. When the seasons starts they will surprise everyone.
is getting old. You go out, run a route, get open, block, throw, catch, run. How hard is it to execute? These guys have been playing football their whole lives. You can only run plays so many different ways. I agree with the previous poster - it's a lack of talent and execution.
I don't see great things for this team and recognize the lack of talent, but the "new offense" thing can't old at least until into the real season, when, you know, the games mean something, gameplans aren't vanilla, etc.
Playing mind games with the other teams, They are purposely playing bad to develop a false sense of security in other teams. When the seasons starts they will surprise everyone.
LOL. That's what I say when playing a sport and we're down big at halftime. "Now that we have them over confident, let's attack."
rogers can keep the defense off balance in the packer offense with his running threat, eli is missing that dimension, and for that offense.....its a critical missing dynamic.
looking at stat sheet no passing or running it's basically the offensive line..
since we spent all our money on defense we shouldn't give up that many points either....coaching can be very good and reese thinking this offensive line was going to be good means he should be fired

Maybe you should check game before commenting on the game. OL hasn't been the story tonight.
but I don't see Eli doing a lot of quick short stuff. Doesn't seem to have the finesse and rhythm that the hew active QB's in the league have. Better he plays in the shotgun and does his deliberate heaves down the field. If only we had WR's who are big tall fast and tough. Odell we need you.
Is how Eli turned this bad this quickly. Sure, he was never a perfect qb, but he was a damn fine one. He looks lost out there. Somehow we need him to get his confidence back. 1/7 is unacceptable in almost any circumstance
Maybe you should check game before commenting on the game. OL hasn't been the story tonight.
It hasn't? How many holes did they open in the run game? How many times was Eli rushed even on a short pass pattern? The OL is one of the big stories.
I glad Papa and Banks put that to rest early. OL settled down pretty quick. Jennings had trouble turning the corner and was susceptible to a lot of ankle tackles. The one great pass by Eli was fumbled by Cruz, Eli with a ton of time missed a receiver and was nearly intercepted. An interception was canceled by a holding call.

Do you really not know? The O-Line is god awful, and there isn't a NFL caliber TE on the roster, and the WRs are average.
But you have to be able to display an ability to do something, anything, one thing, even for one play on 1st team offense. They have not. Not a single thing..does Victor Cruz have a single reception yet? Does Eli have a completion? How many 3 and outs on offense do the Giants have?
Normally preseason doesn't mean a thing, but this....this is different.
Taylor who was dismissed as a waste was all over the field.
Bromley got in with the 1s and penetrated.
Kennard doesn't even look like a rookie.
Williams trucking guys with power and a burst of speed.
Again none of this is on Manning right?
The great ones make those around them better,Eli is not doing that.....I think if this continues you will start to hear more voices (and more rational than me) start to speculate.

This! It's not like they move the ball then the drive stalls. They do nothing. NOTHING! Jennings for 2 yards. Incomplete pass. Jennings for 2 more yards. Punt. They have 5 first downs and I think 3 were because of penalties.
There's being out-of-synch, and there's being pathetic. The offense has been pathetic for 3 straight games.

Eli has been bad, no doubt. But he's not alone. There is a lot of bad on this offense.
I have watched a lot of games in preseason over the years and this is the worst I have ever seen the Giants play. There is a problem here that will linger all year and bring about a major house cleaning at the end of the year or earlier.
They are totally out of rhythm. No clue and that is sad.
is that the run defense looked really good. I think the secondary can be good, but they need to have some semblance of a pass rush. JPP has done nothing. Kiwi? Nada. Whoever is playing LDE? nothing.
I think we're getting an idea of why Seattle let the best slot corner in the NFL walk. Thurmond is a legend in his own mind.
However, Rodgers-Cromartie looks to be as advertised.
reminds me of Lloyd Dobler. "If you guys know so much about girls, what are you doing sitting here at a gas n' sip on a saturday night with absolutely no girls in sight..."

I had the misfortune of going to Cincinnati and Baltimore 2 years ago and the Carolina game last year. Those and the Atlanta game from 2012 were embarrassing, while this is a practice game I agree with your point, something is wrong
With how consistently bad the Offense has been - regardless of what QB/string offense is playing against what string defense - it makes me wonder if McAdoo is up for this...they just can't do anything right.
I naively am hoping that he's just not showing any of this cards yet...
I don't think Eli has been playing with any confidence. There were two long plays that were reminiscent of better days: the one to Cruz, and the other too-short pass to a wide open Jernigan.
if Beatty is healthy and respectable. I don't see why some combo of Beatty, Schwartz, Walton, Mosley, Pugh and Richburg can't form a decent enough line.
RE: Giants floating the idea of Eli completing 70%
story of this game - other than the suckage across the board - are the injuries.
Disagree. The story of the game is that Eli, Cruz, and the whole offense may not be NFL caliber. Even Pugh looked awful giving up a sack, and not blocking Bjoern on a screen play with huge potential.
It is true. I watched it a bunch of times on Tivo on different angles. The runner loses the ball from his OL hitting him, not by Anderson's subsequent low wrap-up tackle.
that Nassib looks good enough (albeit against weakest level comp) that he takes back the lead over Painter and the Giants don't foolishly carry three QBs afterall.
know it's against scrubs, but Nassib and Cox have been very good. Nassib has the mobility that Eli lacks, and has thrown some very accurate rockets, including that last pass to Harvey. Cox has shown a lot of explosion and quickness.

there is a turning point, where the team shows that it refuses to be beaten, regardless of how dire things look. We may have seen just a turning point for this year!
I'd love to hear why Washington doesn't get any reps until the 4th. It's ridiculous to think that Nassib should start over Eli, but it does give you some thought that he can actually play in the NFL...albeit 3rd stringers or whatever. He's got zip, he's accurate, a decent athlete...never know.

LOL, your Nassib reasoning against level of comp. could be used for Washington.
I'm not really reasoning anything...I'm just saying that even if they're playing against 3rd stringers, you can tell that they both can play in the NFL at some level.
third stringers beat their third stringers, almost as badly as their first stringers beat our first stringers.
The question is whether our third stringers should really be third stringers.
Nassib was excellent. It was against scrubs, and it does still look like he stares down receivers, but he threw some accurate lasers, especially the two to Robinson, and the pass to Harvey on the goal line. He is also mobile. Cox, Washington, and Harris also played well.
Can't say much for the first string, and Quarles was a penalty machine. Also, lots of injuries. Hope none are serious.
2. Randle/Cruz active.
3. Pass rush on Colts QB.
Beatty playing well would be big!

The Colts also have 14 players not dressing for the game.

Indy is practicing certain formations and this line is not there yet.
That was a bad play on Rolle there.

Some time yes. But was horrendous last season, and looks no better so far.
Bromley got in with the 1s and penetrated.
Kennard doesn't even look like a rookie.
Williams trucking guys with power and a burst of speed.

How the fuck is the offense this bad back to back games that we cant move the ball or complete passes
OL is opening up huge holes in the run game huh? Less than 3 YPC. Painter did much better with his 1 for 5, huh?
Giants announce LT Charles Brown has a shoulder injury and is OUT for the game.

Bad QB play

Eli has been bad, no doubt. But he's not alone. There is a lot of bad on this offense.
I don't think Eli sucks ass. He is just older. He is entering his 11th season.

On que. The Eli excuse makers. He's had time to make his throws

Well, we've been looking for something positive...

And on cue. Didnt Cruz drop a bomb? Wasnt Cruz blanketed on the INT. Was ARandle ever open. Didnt Jerrigan fail to make a play on a lob?
Again, no one said Eli played well. Normal fans blame the entire team. The whole offense sucks right now. From the OL, Skill positions, and the QB.
If the OL was doing so well, wouldnt the run game be better?
10 yards might as well be ten miles for this offense.
They are totally out of rhythm. No clue and that is sad.
According to @giantswfan on radio broadcast: Markus Kuhn heads into the locker room for X-rays on his elbow. #NYG

Good grief.
We could use Rocky Thompson
In most cases here it's everyone but the QB

I'm not normally one to wish injury on anyone...but I've seen all I need to see from Charles Brown. Take a seat and make sure you get super healthy.
I think we're getting an idea of why Seattle let the best slot corner in the NFL walk. Thurmond is a legend in his own mind.
However, Rodgers-Cromartie looks to be as advertised.
Cooper Taylor (toe) is also hurt. He won't return. #nyg
Completing 50% of passes would be pretty nice, though.
No? How about this quote?

Lmao...touche tomhagen..
I naively am hoping that he's just not showing any of this cards yet...
That's the thing. This team has had issues for a while now, and the offense hasn't functioned since mid 2012.
NYGs baby!
After the last two games 50% would be an improvement.
Just like clockwork Geeman is back...always lurking around to kick Eli when he's down..
Geeman the guy who over the years has said Vick, Bradford, Freeman (to name a few) were better than our 2 time SB champion and 2 time SB mvp..
Disagree. The story of the game is that Eli, Cruz, and the whole offense may not be NFL caliber. Even Pugh looked awful giving up a sack, and not blocking Bjoern on a screen play with huge potential.
Super Bowl!!!!
will throw picks and fumble
Agreed. Another piss poor performance. And loads of injuries. Prince, Kuhn, Brown, and Taylor. Hope none are serious.
Sorry. Not Painter. Harnish.
FYI...lots of QBs deal with Oline breakdowns, difference is a lot of the new age QB can evade and make a play.
No one likes the direction this league is going in.
and we lose him..
Hahaha!!
Woooo!
They have to keep 3 if we're going to keep Eli.
A great throw while you eat crow..
Goddamnit, I called it and here it comes! WOOOOOOO HOOOOOO!
This used to be said about David Carr, Jared Lorenzen, etc. yearly too in the old offense.
Super Bowl!!!!
with a fourth quarter comeback.
Super Bowl!!!
Super Bowl!!!
Eric way to show team spirit and GOOD OLD GIANT PRIDE....!!!
Super Bowl!!!
YOU CAN'T STOP HIM. YOU CAN'T EVEN HOPE TO CONTAIN HIM.
LOL!
I told ya it would be comeback of the year.
D
FENCE
eli has a problem
LOL, your Nassib reasoning against level of comp. could be used for Washington.
Plus one.
No, not all the guys playing in the 4th are going to be cut, not even close actually.
eli has a problem
Your a fuckstain on society. No wonder why society has you labeled.

Lol. Kind of excessive dude.
Super Bowl!!!!
Papa and Banks much more sanguine.
For me.............mostly negative although somewhat tempered by Nassib, Washington, Robinson.....
Am I to understand that our scrubs pulled this game out? That is an hysterically funny and unexpected occurrence.
3-0. lol
