Nassib

Canton : 8/16/2014 10:44 pm
Is the Shit Bowl MVP. He should be an absolute lock at backup. Would love to hear all the haters arguments against it.
Bottom line
Great White Ghost : 8/16/2014 10:46 pm : link
He looks like an NFL quarterback
Arguments against it?
Anakim : 8/16/2014 10:46 pm : link
He looked shitty last week, but yes, he's better than Painter
He went to exactly the right place

Better than Painter is no great shakes. But over time, I think he can be alot better. He definitely has an upside Painter does not have.
Tell me 1 throw you wanted him to take back

and was very accurate. Missed Harris/Harvey in the endzone, but was otherwise on target. Second year player in his second offense in as many years, and everyone thinks he should be canned. Keep him over Painter.
Nassib was clutch
Canton : 8/16/2014 10:53 pm : link
Despite the horrific O-line trying to throw away the comeback. Great pocket presence. Poise under pressure. Made the throws he had to make.

If we lose Eli to an injury, the season may be over anyway. But I'll take our chances with Nassib behind the wheel. He was fun to watch.
GWG +1
Toastt34 : 8/16/2014 10:54 pm : link
I didnt understand the venom towards him last week. He's been one of few bright spots this preseason. It's too early to tell what we have in him, but he can play. I would like to never see Painter in a Giants uniform again.
Liked his toughest
mushroom : 8/16/2014 10:54 pm : link
Even after getting pile driven into the ground,(a type of play which flags have been thrown), he leads the time for the go ahead score.
This team isn't good enough to carry 3 QB's
DavidinBMNY : 8/16/2014 10:54 pm : link
Or at least not these 3. Nassib pushed painter off the roster I believe today.
It is amazing how much bellyaching

I'm willing to bet it does wonders for his confidence going forward from here.

Have to hand it to TC. Man knows how to motivate.

Nassib vs. Painter
George : 8/16/2014 11:06 pm : link
Nassib played great today.

Painter played great last week.

Which week is more important than the other?

I doubt they keep three QBs on this roster. So....

It's gonna come down to this: if the Giants decide that they have a chance to be good this year, they'll go with Painter, who's got more experience and can step in and play should Eli get hurt. If the Giants decide they're more of a work in progress, they'll go with Nassib and look to the future.

Up until two hours ago, I thought the Giants might actually be sort of good this season, and that Curtis Painter would be the choice. But after the vicious debacling we experienced in the first half, I now wonder whether the Giants might quietly confess that this is a rebuilding year, and that the developmental guy gets the nod over the experienced one.

They're
AcidTest : 8/16/2014 11:10 pm : link
going to keep Nassib. He's got the arm and mobility Painter never had and never will. He's also a second year player in his second offense in as many years. And they spent a fourth and a sixth to get him.

Painter is a journeyman trying to squeeze out a few more years for some extra paychecks. That is fine, but nobody is going to pick him up if we cut him. He'd therefore most likely be available if we needed to resign him during the season.
I have no doubt that Nassib could beat any NFL team's

This. If Eli goes down at length we're fucked anyway, I'd rather see the kid get an opportunity to develop than watch an aging clipboard holder even if he gives us a marginally better chance to win, and I'm not sure that he does anyway.
Nassib
RetroJint : 8/16/2014 11:17 pm : link
is a better quarterback than Geno Smith, who is a starter in this league. Where is the guy who always parrots Dilfer, saying Ryan doesnt have any touch & throws every pass the same way? He hit the 2 seamers because the route was run properly .
Nassib is not our problem
Spock : 8/16/2014 11:21 pm : link
We all know it is Eli. Gentlemen, it is time to start pondering this possibility- Eli might not fit into new coaches system.
best play he made
Dankbeerman : 8/16/2014 11:30 pm : link
Was recognizing yhe penalty directing the receiver to the end zone and taking the shot. He missed the throw but it was q Davy play.
Have to wait till all stats update properly but
Great White Ghost : 8/16/2014 11:38 pm : link
I think Nassib Is very near the top in total yds in the NFL this preseason. Oddly, before this weeks game, he was in fact the leader in total yards.

If that were true, and that is still a big if then the coaches had better be the ones making the appropriate adjustments and not the other way around.

Well, iif you are right, and Manning doesn't straighten himself out, it's a sobering thought that the future QB of the Giants May already be on the roster, even if Manning plays out his contract and doesnt get resigned.@ years from now if Eli doesnt get better they may not resign him. a lot can hapopen in 2 years. He may have gotten injured, and Nassib may have already had some regular season play filling in. Maybe he's done well. Maybe the Giants starting QB in 2016 is a guy who first showed he could do it, could come from behind and win is a guy who really took his first step to establish himself this evening. one never knows.I do know that what I aw tonight, was something you don't see every day.Nor do you see a team that comes back from 26 points behind.

We saw some very troubling things tonight. We may have seen
the first inklings a great Giant and 2 time super bowl MVP is in an inexorable decline. It may be that this is the night that it first became apparent MacAdoo was here on a one year rental, and this was going to be TCs last year.
Maybe the wheels come off the trolley and by seasons end it's clear to management that Reese is not the man and his salvage plan was a total disaster and he gets his walking papers.Shit, Maybe TC doesnt get fired and they give himReeses job.who knows. Maybe the hall of fame careers of Washington and Harris started tonight when they solidified their spots on the Giants 2014 roster.

In an insignificant preseason game where it seemed we won a meaningless contest but otherwise looked abysmal, I have a funny feeling we saw things tonight that will lead to big changes for this team, for good or ill, that we won't realize until a few years from now started this evening.
His arm is ridiculously strong
bradshaw44 : 8/16/2014 11:57 pm : link
He slings a serious fastball.
Nassib looked like noone so much in the 4th quarter
Great White Ghost : 8/17/2014 12:03 am : link
as he did like Eli Manning. We had all seen that before.
In 2014 preseason so far he is 30 for 48
Great White Ghost : 8/17/2014 12:25 am : link
and 376 yds, 2 TDs, completions 62.5%
They gave Painter a chance to show what he's got...
SB : 8/17/2014 12:44 am : link
...with the 2nd team and he fell flat on his face. The guy sucks.
That's a bit harsh no?
Great White Ghost : 8/17/2014 1:51 am : link
He was starting because he ahd gone 10/10 before tonight and had helped us win the first 2 games. He started the 4th quarter with a scoring drive that got everything going. Don't know we need to say "He sucks". If he sucks than what Is Eli? A swallower?
I hope he keeps improving
santacruzom : 8/17/2014 4:57 am : link
because we're going to need him when Beatty and Pugh get Eli killed against Clowney and Watt in week 3.
If Eli continues to play badly,

Nassib may be our starting qb by next season.

Some people take preseason football way too seriously.
We're football junkies. We all take it too seriously.
Ira : 8/17/2014 9:06 am : link
But if Nassib and Painter grade out equally in pre-season, I'd expect Nassib to get the job. He's a greatly improved player and still has upside.
For a 4th rd pick, Nassib was a great risk.
Jim in Forest Hills : 8/17/2014 9:12 am : link
If he pans out, you get a good backup for Eli for 5 years for low cost. You can then trade this asset for a higher value. Even if he doesn't pan out, it's just a 4th rd pick.
Huge nassib fan here..
G-Fan4 : 8/17/2014 9:26 am : link
But to say he could even overtake manning is absurd, nassib has improved greatly from last year. That being said where I think nassib outplays painter is the two minute offense. 3/4 of cuse's offense was no huddle offense and he was really efficient running that at cuse. Last night late in the fourth you saw that command and confidence he had well running the no huddle. Thats were nassib beats painter

This is getting rediculous, its preseason
PatersonPlank : 8/17/2014 10:45 am : link
Nassib looks like crap against the 2nd team, an Painter looks great against the 3/4th team. So everyone loves Painter. Then Painter looks like crap against the 2nd team and Nassib lights up the 3/4th teams, so naturally Nassib is better than Eli.

Its absurd. This is preseason. The coaches are looking at players in specific situations, trying players in different places, and keeping everything vanilla.
Nassib is the worst.
arcarsenal : 8/17/2014 10:46 am : link
Worse than bad. Won't ever be any good. I read it all here just a few days ago.

And LOL at this. He has barely any experience at all. He got very limited pre-season time as a rookie last year behind a horrid offensive like that he barely ever had 2 seconds to stand up behind and now he's in a new system and just 3 more games of limited action in.

I have absolutely no idea what people like you expect. This is a 4th round pick. Not a guy we took in rd 1 and expect to be starting this year.
I think he showed enough last night and
Bill in UT : 8/17/2014 1:43 pm : link
in week 1 to warrant staying. He completed some passes last night on plays where the pocket broke down and Eli would have been sacked.
The 2013 draft is really starting to look very good.
Ira : 8/17/2014 3:12 pm : link
Pugh is an established starter. Hankins is close to that. Moore is showing the pass rushing skillswe drafted him for. Nassib is proving his worth as a backup qb. Cooper Taylor is making plays. Michael Cox may stick as a backup rb.
Right now Nassib is better than Eli in this offense
