...make that real ugly.
But a little perspective here:
1) Brand new offense that is still being installed and still being learned;
2) Pre-season is just that-- pre-season. There's enough history to know that great pre-seasons have led to 4-win seasons and terrible pre-seasons have led to Super Bowls;
3) Speaking of "4 wins"... that's what the Giants team played like last season. 4 wins that morphed into 7 because we caught teams when their starting QBs were out;
4) In other words, we've been gleefully spoiled by two amazing Super Bowl seasons that have obscured something very basic: the Giants are in re-building mode and they are re-building from the bottom looking up;
5) Our expectations -- especially in pre-season -- should be animated by the progress we make as much as the wins we accrue;
6) Bottom line: this team is a work in progress whose success may need to be measured in terms of years, not one pre-season.
I don't think that's too much to ask of the 1st team in the third pre-season game.
Unfotrunatly week 3 is supposed to be the dress rehersal, but clearly this offense is not ready for that. We need to know if Washington and Harris can play with the varsity and if ODB can bean impact player, and, if not, we are probably in some real trouble, to be honest. Hopefully some of these guys vailing us out in PS games can help bail us out when they count.
How long has it been since this team was in the playoffs, now? Regimes in the NFL don't get chance after chance to field an NFL winner?
Yes you are right the perfect bombs to Cruz (who fumbled) and JJ (who surprise, surprise couldn't make the play) were certainly ducks..
Brand new rebuilt offensive line, regardless of scheme and talent, it's going to take a while for the line to have any semblance of cohesion.
Eli has to play better, hope it's just a matter of getting use to a new system.
Seems like a lot of experimenting with plays, trying to find out which plays work(not many at this time), which plays might work with better execution and which plays just don't fit the talent/strengths of the personnel.
Hoping it doesn't take too long into the regular season for the O to start to jell.
But you do like to see your first string squads look crisp and ready to compete. 3 games in, we have seen glimpses from the D but none from the O.
Honestly, MS's opening post and others like it are completely reasonable, but I can't help but think with a QB who many claim is one of the top 10 in the NFL, we should be able to roll out of bed and at least look competent. Eli and team have spent the last season and half looking more like the bottom third of the NFL than anything remotely close to a team ready to compete for the playoffs.
So why should this pre-season performance indicate anything more than a true showing of what we are right now?
I am quickly losing my optimism for this season, and have a feeling I am going to be disappointed more Sunday's than not.
I would welcome comments either way from posters who know what they should be looking for in his motion
Unless Beckham becomes the real deal fast, your looking at one of the worst receiving groups in the entire NFL.
[quote] doesn't mean anything,
Could we get a rule passed quickly that expands rosters to 90 and no one can play in more than 2 quarters ??
We're undefeated under those rules ...
dominance in the Run Game instead of shiney
new toys . There no damn good if your
running for your life or on your back .
They went all in with all the free agent moves
yet its been the piss poor drafts that
led us to this point ...........
Havent watched a down of pre-season yet either.
J.P.P. hasn't shown squat up to this point either. Very concerning.
