That was exactly what should have happened

They did a great job on this PPV. The only flaw was Cesaro losing to RVD
Perfect ending

That was one of the best ass kickings in a long time.
That is how every Cena match should end

How on Earth are they going to book the titles off Lesnar now? Roman Reigns? Nobody can take them off of him realistically (besides a fairy tale Cena rematch which is what will happen at Night of Champions)

The HBK of this generation. The amount of great matches he's going to have on his resume by the time he retires is going to be staggering. He's only 28.

Ambrose isn't that far behind...he reminds me quite a bit of Roddy Piper

I'm just talking about in ring talent.

Piper is dramatically underrated in the ring. He's no HBK but he was a high-level performer

In the ring? I was never a Piper in ring fan. His promos were awesome, though.
Great that
illmatic : 8/17/2014 10:52 pm : link
Brock won. But with the way the match went, no way Cena's ego is willing to leave it at that. He'll beat Brock in a future rematch and tie Flair's record "against the odds".
I know I'm alone
TheNeumann64 : 8/17/2014 10:56 pm : link
but I hate this. Not much of a Cena fan, although I respect his dedication, and that's he's drawn a lot of money over the years. But Lesnar? Can't stand him. That match was a piece of shit. You want to say he dominated him, and that's an appropriate storyline to build heat? Fine. But what was essentially a non-competitive squash match as the main event of the 2nd biggest show of the year? Brutal.

Good card otherwise I thought. I agree with previous sentiment on the Reigns booking. The gotta get that guy in to some kind of a novel feud, and quick. Or else he's going to end up being the forgotten man of the Shield, which was unthinkable a few months ago.

Having the match be competitive is not what Lesnar's characters about. Its about total annihilation. It was perfect.

Now my ideal scenario is Brock hold the title through the rumble. And then in the royal rumble have a mysterious entry at number 30. That being Punk. Punk wins and sets up a Punk/Lesnar WM. Punk wins that sets up a Punk/bryan Summerslam.
Not even Cena's stupid kid fan chanting "LET'S GO CENA" every three...

WWE sees him as their next top face. They aren't going to let him fall behind anyone, one way or another. WWE fans could time warp back to 1997 and break out a "Die Roman, Die!" chant and it wouldn't matter one bit.

He has a lot of potential, but when Randy Orton is the only one getting a crowd involved in a match to any extent, something is massively going wrong and it's potentially setting the stage for something easily worse than Cena's reactions over the last decade.
I understand that
TheNeumann64 : 8/17/2014 11:10 pm : link
not what his character is about, and that's why I find him so utterly uninteresting. I'm a network subscriber, so I can't say I laid out specifically for this card tonight, but if I went in 50 bucks to watch what was basically a video game match where the other controller is unplugged, I'd be less than thrilled, regardless of what his character is.

But whatever, people seem to love him, and I don't. I hate the idea of him as Champion, but I don't have any interest in being the contrarian, but I did want to share my displeasure.

Overall though again, I though good show. Liked Ziggler going over specifically.

Which is something you should be praising Cena for, not that you will.

He took a massive toll on his body tonight that someone with his neck history probably has no business taking in order to put someone over, just like he worked pretty badly injured last Summer Slam to put Bryan over.

How often does WWE's handpicked faces workout though? It always ends up being the guy who goes out there and TAKES it ala Stone Cold Steve Austin The Rock Bret Hart Shawn Michaels etc all the greats.

I wouldn't go that far. Diesel jack knife power bombed bob Backlund in 8 seconds. Pretty one sided dominant win.
How do you book Lesnar from here
dpinzow : 8/17/2014 11:18 pm : link
I guess he's going to hold a few squash matches from here to at least the Royal Rumble. Since he's only going to wrestle once a month, if that, how are the next PPVs going to be arranged?

This is a bit of a swerve but I would feed Rusev to the wolves at some point in the next three months
The Rock was handpicked. They just were more desperate back then,
Riggies : 8/17/2014 11:19 pm : link
so they were willing to demote him down the card, rebuild his character from the flop that was Rocky Maivia, and try again.

Hogan was handpicked too, as Vince allegedly lined him up to be his next iconic face the minute he bought his father out and decided to go national.

It's really a mixed bag as to what works or not, historically.
Hogan was handpicked
Mr. Nickels : 8/17/2014 11:20 pm : link
only clear successful sample.

The Rock was not handpicked. His character fell on its face and he made himself.
i think
Mr. Nickels : 8/17/2014 11:20 pm : link
Cena wins it back at Night of Champions Lesnar goes away awhile and comes back to win it at Rumble.

It is easier to cruise control from Rumble to Mania as Champ.
All I really want in wrestling
Pego61 : 8/17/2014 11:21 pm : link
is for my expectations to be blown away. Surprise me.

Well, Lesnar/Cena surprised me. Not the result. But the way it happened. And if wrestling can still surprise me, after watching it my entire life, then they did something right.
There is some upside in the midcard
dpinzow : 8/17/2014 11:22 pm : link
Lesnar with the big belt means that Ziggler's going to get a tremendous amount of work as the IC champ and might get a chance to carry the company a bit

Cena's doing a movie from what I've heard, and that's why he agreed to drop the belt
Also, how can Lesnar job at a minor PPV
dpinzow : 8/17/2014 11:27 pm : link
He beat the streak and squashed Cena, so it makes no sense for him to drop the belt at any PPV other than WM because he's so built up as a heel (and he's a legit fighter to boot)

Rocky Maivia was supposed to be a star. He was absolutely handpicked to be one, that was clear the minute he showed up as "The Blue Chipper" and was over-hyped as a third generation superstar. It just ended up all a flop.

Things were more fluid/desperate then, so they had to demote him, which gave him a chance to re-start and he made that work out. If that happened today, they'd have just kept on trying to make him work mostly as is before giving up entirely on him.

It may be. I know The Rock brutally beat Mankind once or twice to win the title back but it wasn't as one sided as that. That was as dominant as it gets. No idea who can beat Lesnar.

Is Lesnar as an unstoppable force and Reigns as Superman. Lesnar is going to hold the belt until then defeating some wannabes along the way looking unstoppable and uncontrollable as well. Regins wins the Rumble and then wins the belt at Wrestlemania sine he is "superman".

When he started out by just overpowering Cena, I thought they'd booked it for another Super-Cena ass-kick/improbably comeback.

I did not expect it to be a squash.

I too was surprised at how one-sided a match this was. I understand putting Lesnar over but to let Cena be treated like a rag doll was shocking! Like him/Hate him, Cena has been the WWE's rock over a long period of time & watching last night was cringe-worthy. In actuality,it was a lousy feature match w/Cena showing a very minimal amount of fight. I can take Heyman in small doses but now every time I hear B-R-O-C-K L-E-S-N-A-R,I'm going to hope that a match w/ Reigns(or rematch w/Cena) takes place shortly!

WWE better be careful with Reigns.

The crowd sounded like a funeral for that match he had tonight before the main event. The LA crowd last night seemed hot.

If he can't keep momentum these next 3 months going into the Rumble, I can see them making a last minute switch.

His promos haven't been all that good and having him in a match for 20 minutes seems to overexpose him.
I thought it was a very good Summerslam
nygiants16 : 8/18/2014 9:40 am : link
that didnt need crazy turns and things like that...

The Lesnar/Cena match was great and it was fast moving...it wasnt a slow methodical beat down which made it even better...Cena actually sold the match quite well which i am shocked about...evne when h ehopped up a couple of times in the match and had some moves they made it seem like it was all adrenaline the way Lesnar brushed it off and Cena layed down again right after it...it was actually pretty good story telling who knew Cena had it in him...

It is crazy how much bigger Lesnar looked compared to Cena, cena is a big guy and he looked tiny next to Lesnar...

as for reigns i am starting to get bored with him...He needs to learn the psychology of a match...I wish Triple H would take him under his wing...Even though Triple H wasnt the greatest wrestler he just knew how to tell a story and you were camptivated by it...even when he lost a step he still had a great matches because he just knew how to tell the story of a match...

Reigns needs to learn that, he needs to learn its not just about the moves and how fast you do them, its about using the psychology to sell the match...

Its same reason i cant stand Cena...Cena doesnt tell a story and he doesnt sell shit...

What is absolutely insane, is that if you watched the end of Raw the other night Hulk is still bigger then Lesnar as far height, and muscle mass. That is absolutely crazy to me because Lesnar is no means a small man. Which means Hulk dwarfs Cena.
