a hat absolutely belongs on that list. It's far worse than The Replacements, which is apparently on there mainly because of the author's views on unions.
is classic. Brutally bad but i'll watch it before half of the sports movies out there. Lincoln Hawk is the man.
agreed, Over the Top is like Point Break and Road House, at a glance it's bad, but watch it again...and again...and it really grows on you. I've always liked movies that don't pretend to be something other than what they are
I also thought Bagger Vance was very good, and I don't even like golf
if there is a list at the end you can link I'll check it out, but not clicking 12 times to see their crappy list.
anyway, I'm sure it's on here, but Caddyshack II if it's considered a sports movie, is not only the worst sports movie it's among the worst movies ever made.
I just figured it was the lack of interest in golf
Rocky is a terrific movie but the boxing scenes are indeed ludicrous. Raging Bull it ain't. Anyway, Rocky V is the one on the list, which I'm sure everyone can agree is a piece of garbage.
wasn't there a scene in Over The Top where his son gets intimidated
looking at the list I thought of "The Babe." Ruth was a big guy but he was also a great athlete. John Goodman just looked fat and sloppy.
An interesting side note to "For Love of the Game" The script was adapted from a short story written by Michael Shaara, best known of course for penning The Killer Angels, that was published after his death. It was apparently found locked in his safe and some speculate that he never intended for it to be read, much less adapted into a film.
I liked For Love Of The Game, The Replacements and The Babe
How Rookie of the Year, Major League 3 and The Fan didn't make the list is anyone's guess. Rookie of the Year with that fucking kid who went on to be in American Pie, Gary Busey and an even more annoying than usual Daniel Stern is beyond brutal.

Agree about The Babe - love John Goodman, but he was horribly miscast in that role
By far the worst cast ever for a story which may have had wings.
Kid is supposedly a division 1 prospect but gives up his kidney so his grandmother can live. The story may have worked yet the kid lol
The kid might not be 5'6 and not a muscle in his body yet supposedly can play for Florida State. He can't even make his high school football team I might add. In an attempt to get into shape we see him riding a bicycle with his grandmother actually running on foot besides him to give him encouragement. He can't pedal a bicycle faster than his aging grandmother can run.
every Rocky sequel was bad and cheapened the original. The Rocky story was wrapped-up nicely in the first movie. A life-long loser and "could have been a contender"-type gets his one shot and gives it his all, while also finding love along the way. We didn't really need to see him win the title, become rich and famous, and single-handedly end the Cold War after that.

Beat that for the worst sports film ever
Worst Sports Move and it's not even close - ( New Window )
The sequel would be even worse - the real life Daniel Huffman killed himself a few years later.
I already think When The Game Stands Tall is on the list
After that I wouldn't watch the sequels.
They looked like ball players swinging the bat, like Sylvester Stallone doing King Lear

I call BS on this one. PCU was awesome!
Plus, Over the Top's got a guy drinking motor oil before a match to intimidate opponents. Who can't appreciate that?
There was a movie on the other night, Bang the Drum Slowly which is highly acclaimed, I believe.
But Robert DiNero is just not believable as a pro baseball player. Very non-athletic.
Making sports movies are usually the toughest.

I enjoyed Bagger Vance as well. I also have a spot for For the Love of the Game too. Preston is an absolutely knockout smokeshow IMO.

joins a team of losers and they start winning!

Uhhh That is a college movie NOT a sports movie.
Yup, one of them shoved him I think. Classic.
Fun fact - Ajay Naidu, who played Samir in Office Space, played the ghetto kid who Keaton becomes a sort of surrogate father to.

Could have been a good story yet the cast was pathetic.
