I still think it wasn't just the worst baseball movie of all time but the worst movie, the worst non-B movie I've ever seen. Even Jessica Biel couldn't save it.
I wouldn't have put these on the list
steve in ky : 8/18/2014 1:56 pm : link
Caddyshack 2- They weren't making a sports movie but a comedy, the same thing for Dangerfield's "Ladybugs".

The Legend of Bagger Vance- I thought it was an OK movie, definitely not deserving of being on any worst list.

For Love of the Game- There was more to this movie than being simply a sports movie.

The Air Bud series
cosmicj : 8/18/2014 1:59 pm : link
Air Bud Golden Receiver (football), Air Bud Strikes Back (volleyball), Air Bud World Pup (soccer). The titles are the cleverest thing about them, which hasn't prevented my young childrn from devouring them.

The worst is Golden Receiver, which has a team named the "Giants" acting as the bad guys. Totally unacceptable.

The Fan with Robert DeNiro and Wesley Snipes was absolutely awful. Although John Kruk gets stabbed at the end so I guess it's not all bad.

All the good movies Deniro did he has also has had his terrible ones, this is one as well as Frankenstein
I can't believe Bert Reynolds allowed himself
Maximus, Esq. : 8/18/2014 2:12 pm : link

LOL, so should have I! I knew what you meant so just parroted your mistake. haha. Of course sequels often stink also, but not to the degree that remakes are.

I couldn't get passed the idea of a 60 year old with known brain damage being allowed to fight the current heavyweight champion, even in a exhibition match.

People say Rocky 6 was good
pjcas18 : 8/18/2014 3:03 pm : link
mostly because it was a surprise that it wasn't historically awful given the abomination that Rocky 5 was.
It's been disussed
Pete in MD : 8/18/2014 3:31 pm : link
on here before but the original screenplay for Rocky V had Rocky dying at the end (and widowing a pregnant Adrian.) The studio wouldn't let Stallone do it. But I don't think killing Rocky at the end would have saved that piece of crap. "Go for it, Rock!"
And the winner is

Agreed but this was good

"Get up you sonofabitch! because Mickey Loves you"
Necessary Roughness was a delightful romp.

Rocky criticism
Jim in Fairfax : 8/18/2014 3:58 pm : link
Criticism of Rocky is unwarranted. Yes, fight movies that were made after Rocky had more realistic fight scenes, but the scenes were extremely well made for their time.

As for criticism that the fight would have been stopped in real life: again, that's a criticism made from a modern perspective. Stallone based the movie on a real 1975 fight between Ali and Chuck Wepner, a nobody who was given no chance to last 3 rounds. He lasted 15 rounds despite a broken nose and cuts opened above both eyes. It was a different era.

Personally, I liked Bagger Vance
I'mRonBurgandy? : 8/18/2014 4:01 pm : link
and For the Love of the Game (although it was more of a chick flick than a sports movie).
I also liked the Replacements even though it sucked. I wish the Giants had a deaf stud at TE.

I was disapointed not to see Necessary Roughness on the list. It was God awful. It starred Scott Bakuls as a 30 something rancher/cowboy who has college eligibility remaining so he chooses to return to college football.

Hilarity ensues!

One mildly amusing line:

[as Paul, who is 34 years old, approaches]
Coach Gennero: Wally, did you hire an Assistant Coach without telling me?
Coach Rig: No, I found a Quarterback without telling you.
Coach Gennero: Well, I hope he gets younger as he gets closer.

"Bull Durham......." All great sports movies. ?

Wasn't a bad movie, but IMO was more of a chick flick than a sports movie.....

Bull Durham was great because the actors pulled it off...still surprises me how good the comedy between Costner and Tim Robbins was, Susan Sarandon was perfect as one of the classic movie cougars of all time, and the manager guy and Robert Wuhl were hilarious in their small parts.

The look on the manager's face when Robert Wuhl is explaining how Nuke is wearing garters and breathing out of his eyelids sums up the movie perfectly...it was pretty silly, but they got it just right
I did out necessary roughness on the list

How did they have the climax take place in a damn hurricane and not one person in the production said, "You realize no baseball game would even be played in this kind of weather?"
I thought Necessary Roughness was great.
Curtis in VA : 8/20/2014 3:33 pm : link
And The Replacements was awful and not funny at all.
