I guess the Barroway lawsuit can't affect this?
2 years minority
feelflows : 8/19/2014 1:28 pm : link

Will these 2 new owners benefit the Isles long-term?
Optimus-NY : 8/19/2014 1:32 pm : link
This is a question meant for those in the know.
And there it is

Let the party begin!
Apparently
Metnut : 8/19/2014 1:33 pm : link
these guys have some very very deep pockets.
is there any precedent
JayBinQueens : 8/19/2014 1:35 pm : link
where a team was sold and the buyers were made minority owners firsy?
Metnut, yes they do.
marbles : 8/19/2014 1:36 pm : link
These were the deep pocket owners who came in late with the money and concrete offer. They will spend. The Isles will be run like a - wait for it - professional sports franchise.

The days of cap floor are finally over.
awesome

What was the sale
mikeygiants : 8/19/2014 1:41 pm : link
price?
I'm a Rangers fan and I'd love to see the Isles relevant again
Optimus-NY : 8/19/2014 1:44 pm : link
Competition is great for everyone. Good to something good happen for you guys.

What of the Brooklyn arena now not being properly configured for Hockey? Is this something that can or will be addressed/adjusted?
I'm a Rangers fan
MookGiants : 8/19/2014 1:46 pm : link
and I'd love to see the Islanders continue to suck.

Fuck you Fish
Really just delaying the move to KC.

These owners were both suggested by and vetted by the NHL
pganut : 8/19/2014 2:00 pm : link
And they came as a known quantity. Living in the DC area, Ledecky is as solid a choice as we could have made. Besides, his daughter (Katie) won the Olympic gold medal in the 800m freestyle in the 2012 summer olympics (as a 15 year old!). So, if you don't like the Isles now, you are clearly un-American! (Brett and Mook, I know you're Bolsheviks, so you don't count, anyway)
You guys over

Nope, not even close.

are the islanders
So how long until Wang
mikeygiants : 8/19/2014 2:15 pm : link
decides to renege? PTSD Isles fans are just not used to good news.

Seriously I'm excited to hear the details of the deal, especially what the ownership model will look like after two years.
wanna go mook

Im ready
All rivalries
EricNY33 : 8/19/2014 2:31 pm : link
are more relevant when both teams are good. So as an Islander fan I hope this move signals the beginning of that and both NY teams are good, strong franchises for the fans to enjoy in the years to come. However... the history of ownership with this team makes me think otherwise.
....
BrettNYG10 : 8/19/2014 2:36 pm : link
I don't hate the Islanders nearly as much as I do the Flyers or Penguins, merely because the rivalry has been pretty much irrelevant for as long as I've been a fan. The Rangers blew from 1997-2004, and the Islanders have largely been irrelevant since the Rangers became a perennial playoff team.

I really just hate Fish.
I just wish they
EricNY33 : 8/19/2014 2:49 pm : link
could backout of the Brooklyn move, but because the Town of Hempstead sucks major balls they have no choice but to go there.

I hate gov't on Long Island, but that's a different story for a different time.
Nassau is a great place to watch a game.
BrettNYG10 : 8/19/2014 2:51 pm : link
Even if you're upstairs, you're right on top of the ice. Great view. A lot better than other arenas.
Well
EricNY33 : 8/19/2014 2:54 pm : link
if they could get approval from the Town of Hempstead to start building there we might have a new arena being built soon, but Kate Murray is too interested in pandering to her base than doing something right for the town and county she supposedly loves.

Ugh sorry. I didn't want to get political here but the Islanders are the only professional sports franchise we have and the fact they're moving because the rich people don't want construction going on is sickening to me.

Someone asks Katie Strang if the isalnders will be sold soon:

1:04 p.m. Katie Strang:
Honestly, I don’t see it and here’s why: I’ve heard from multiple sources that Charles Wang really does not have a realistic view of the team’s value. And if the recent lawsuit filed by Andrew Barroway is any indication, he is having trouble sticking to an agreement. Doesn’t exactly entice me if I’m a potential buyer.
1:26 p.m. Katie Strang:

Considering this news, we are gonna end early today so I can get working on following this story. Hope you all understand. See you next week!
Good. Maybe then we can be rid of Wang once and for all

Hmm. This seems like a false positive

The New York Islanders announced Tuesday that Jon Ledecky and Scott Malkin are buying a substantial minority interest in the team with the plan to eventually run the franchise.

Charles Wang will remain majority owner and governor, but within two years, Ledecky, a former Washington Capitals co-owner, and Malkin, a London-based investor, will become majority owners.

The NHL's board of governors still must approve the arrangement.

Let's cross our fingers.
This
Pete in MD : 8/19/2014 4:37 pm : link
arrangement sounds a little strange but there is some president other sports. Steve Bisciotti first bought a minority stake in the Baltimore Ravens with an option to buy the rest after 4 years, which he exercised of course.
Mayor

Governor... I kid.

Just in a great mood.
I deserved that.
Pete in MD : 8/19/2014 5:12 pm : link
It was a total autocorrect (but I probably would have spelled "precedent" wrong without either way.)
Wow,
Pete in MD : 8/19/2014 5:13 pm : link
that last sentence didn't make sense either. I'll just quit now. Go Isles!
lol Pete
feelflows : 8/19/2014 5:14 pm : link
Screw it. You should've seen the texts I sent when this happened. Looked like I typed with my big nose. I think one said "Islanders salad!!"

Yet they got it.
Haha.
Pete in MD : 8/19/2014 5:31 pm : link
Isn't that on the menu in the Coliseum luxury suites? I believe the recipe includes: a lot of baby spinach that doesn't taste quite as good as you expected, a few crusty croutons that are passed their freshness date, and one near-perfect cherry tomato.
I'm a Devils fan
Jay on the Island : 8/19/2014 5:32 pm : link
but congratulations Islander fans you guys deserve an owner who will invest in the team and hopefully the new owners will do so.
Its so cute how you drakkar scented shitheads

Some very promising comments from JT91 and KO's trainer, Darryl Belfry, from a recent TSN podcast:

Quote:
On John Tavares returning from injury:

"I think this is the best John Tavares I've ever seen. I've been working with him for quite a while. He is in incredible physical condition.

His patterning of how he moves around and the ways in which he moves, and his skillset, and how in tune he is with who he wants to be as a player ... the time he had off he used very intelligently. I would be surprised if you didn't see him among the world's best on top of the scoring charts this year.

On Kyle Okposo, unprompted:

On top of that, I also think this is the best Kyle Okposo that I've seen as well, and so that combination is going to be -- I mean there were times that I thought the Tavares-Okposo combination was among the best if not the best in the league last year -- and I see them taking another big step forward."

I might just need a cold shower now.
Here's one..
