a trio on the team without Beckham that is even close to being competitive ... Beckham is a critical critical piece to the Giants offensive success this year ... and this injury thing has been just horrendous for them ...
They mentioned blood in his hamstring during one of the many exams and said the strain is still healing. That's a tear my friends, not a strain which is why I think Manningham is being accelerated and tried with the ones and Harris and Washington are getting longer looks. I think OBJ has a tear and is headed for the IR, short term or year and we're pushing WRs to see who can fill the gap.

Joey, good post, and I think (sadly) you are on to something. I'm getting the sense short term IR will end up being his future.
It makes the player look soft. Fred Taylor talked about this on TC's "Football Life" episode. He tore his groin and Coughlin kept saying he was "week to week" and might play. Thus, "Fragile Freddie" was born.
if he tore a pec in the weight room and missed time, nobody would bat an eyelash. So he can hurt his breast and no snide comments, but pull a hamstring and he's Becky. Go figure.
Meanwhile, despite few practices all camp long, you gave Pugh some reps at LT don't feed us the "nobody saw this coming" if the OL fails like that season Mara.
I have not idea how many of these types of injuries are normal Â
for the average NFL team but the Giants certainly seem to have a lot of non-contact type of injuries these past years. I mean if a guy gets hit or landed on the wrong way and breaks something you hate to see it but understand that goes with the territory. These nagging issues are a lot more frustrating.

Wouldn't be surprised. Which would be very disappointing. Beckham apparently had hamstring issues when he was in college. If true, didn't the Giants think this problem would continue once he got to the NFL?
RE: Odd how the hamstring becomes a source for ridicule Â

Was wondering the same. I mean, if Beckham had hamstring issues in college, Reese wasn't exactly in a position to take a huge risk at #12.

This is truly disappointing to hear. I mean, I understand we needed a playmaker but if you knew his hamstring needed healing and it was an issue in college why didn't you just take Z. Martin? Yikes!!!

A sprain and a strain are both stretched/pulled or torn tissue. A sprain is a stretch/pulled OR torn ligament (connects bone to bone) while a strain is a stretch/pulled OR torn muscle or tendon (connects muscle to bone). The severity of Beckham's strain is the question. Regardless of the severity since it involves one of the three muscles that make up the hamstring the injury is a strain. As you all know these types of injuries can linger all season. IMO (which as my wife reminds me doesn't fn matter) they are being smart by being cautious because there is always the elevated chance of a setback if one pushes to hard after such an injury. Fingers crossed the soreness he felt was not further injury to the strained hamstring.
LSU played 40 games during Beckham's time(true freshman year through junior year),
and he played in 39 of them, caught a pass in 37 of them.
I'm not sure where the hamstring issues at LSU thing came from, I'm not saying it isn't true just that I haven't heard of it before except on this board. If anyone has any linkage regarding hamstring issues at LSU I'd be interested in links.
to be done except let him heal, and hope for the best. I'm sure he's just as frustrated. If he didn't have hamstring issues in college, then Reese is exonerated IMO. But at this point, given his status as a rookie and how much time he has missed, I wouldn't expect much from him, at least not until later in the year. I don't know about the wisdom of using the short term IR on him, instead of just deactivating him every week. We might need that later on for someone else.

Actually this thread is providing pretty ample evidence that giants fans are at least as stupid as any other fans.
A strain is a tear. Same way a sprain is a tear. It's a matter of severity. He has 3 weeks to heal before a real game. It's obvious he aggravated an injury, but the pocket conjecture and prognostic MDs are lame. He either will or won't be fine off the season, but hats off to the guys who can diagnose a complicated and nuanced injury by the subtle hints writers post.
Recent #1 pick (Wilson) can never play football again ….
This year's pick may miss half the season …
I'm trying to be optimistic, I really am.
I feel the same way. It is quite dis-heartening. We could really have used both Wilson and Odell this year. Their speed changes the game for this offense.
But how any here have seen a legitimately hamstring injury? They can be really bad and, obviously, linger. Back in college a friend partially tore his and I was shocked at how bad it was. He was black, blue, and purple from the top of his calf up into his asscheek. It's a big muscle and it takes a lot of time to heal.
I'm far from a doom n gloomer but I'm not expecting to see Beckham in true game form until the second quarter of the season.

Much easier to call a world-class athlete a girl's name while you grab another handful of Cheetos on the couch.

Joey may have hit the proverbial nail. Frustrating and a shame to have happened, especially, when so much expected from this kid this season.

Well guys,
Klaatu tells me this is a positive omen because of how well Steve Smith and Prince played after they got hurt their rookie years.

I hate to disagree here, but assuming BBI is a sample portion of the overall Giants fanbase...yes a solid number of the fans can be stupid.

Anyone?

LOL.

Hopefully Beckham is living in the training room to help healing.
I agree with Joey in VA - Beckham is probably heading to at least 8 week IR.
You would only get an MRI if you suspect a tear. Sounds like Beckham is a 2
