But how any here have seen a legitimately hamstring injury? They can be really bad and, obviously, linger. Back in college a friend partially tore his and I was shocked at how bad it was. He was black, blue, and purple from the top of his calf up into his asscheek. It's a big muscle and it takes a lot of time to heal.

I'm far from a doom n gloomer but I'm not expecting to see Beckham in true game form until the second quarter of the season.

Much easier to call a world-class athlete a girl's name while you grab another handful of Cheetos on the couch.

Oh of course. It's even easier for those who have never had a sports related injury and don't realize that the player, in the vast majority of cases, wants back on the field more than the fans do.

As for that hammy tear, I swear, biggest, ugliest bruise I've ever seen. That kid didn't walk right for weeks.

that is almost as insulting as the "what do you know, you never played the game" argument.
I've had a hamstring.

Took 3 months to heal. Never a problem again.

Ugh. Really, really disheartening.
If the Giants place Beckham on PUP.......
Simms11 : 8/20/2014 7:39 am : link
to start the season, would they able to keep 6 WRs plus OBJ?

I assume so since he wouldn't be able to play for like 6 weeks and if so, I see Cruz, Randle, JJ, Parker, Harris and Washington all making the team., with OBJ going on PUP to start season. I think then, you can let it all pay out. Some WR might get hurt or play themselves off the team by time OBJ is ready to return, as well.
This guy is key to opening the offense

Otherwise, this will be a year of bumbling and fumbling along.

You can't PUP.
Seems weird...
rptl530 : 8/20/2014 8:14 am : link
that if the Giants knew Beckham had a tear he'd be out on the field in any capacity.

Anyway, really hoping against hope that the Giants can stay healthy enough to not have to use the temp IR spot on Beckham (or anyone for that matter) so early.
had plenty of slight to bad pulls

playing sports. but there was no comparison to when I tore my quad playing soccer. I missed the rest of the season and it felt like a knife in that spot on any sudden move. if he has a tear, he may be done for a while which in his case, could be the season.

don't like the way the story line is lining up on this one. what is this, his third time trying to get back?
This thread has more drama in it

Ha!

Remember when we first heard he hurt his hamstring and people were like, "oh its nothing. Stop being dramatic. He'll be fine" and couldn't understand why others were upset.

Well this is why. Don't expect much from him this season even if he is healthy.
Hope he isn't another

On the day that Beckham returned to individual drills, one of the beats tweeted a quote from him saying that he had a hamstring issue last season but played through it. Looks like that thread got deleted.
BBI is so much fun lately

really just a happy little place with rainbows and sunshine.

So Beckham is done for the year. OK...pack it in.
Glad I finally grew up

and don't let stuff like this effect my "real" life. Geeesch its football. These wide outs are like fine tuned race horses. They break down all the time. Where do you think all that high twitch energy comes from? If these guys don't stretch "properly" those taught tendons tend to get pulled. And that's one of my pet peeves with the Giants. Don't know if its any different these days but at Albany there never seemed to be any concerted stretching going on under anyone's direction. Seems they all just did their own thing???
Maybe he should get the

Amidst all the gloomy posts

there is a slice of reality that the press doesn't reveal. Maybe some are just blowing smoke, but there were enough posts that probably are closer to the truth than what you read in the papers. Looks like they may be right about Beckham not playing for a while.Maybe longer than that.

Well guys,

Klaatu tells me this is a positive omen because of how well Steve Smith and Prince played after they got hurt their rookie years.

I'm inclined to believe him.

Wrong again, kreplach90210.

You were the one talking about "blueprints," and how Beckham's injury spelled disaster for the team. All I did was point out that "it ain't necessarily so." I never said his injury was a positive...only that the wound may - operative word "may" - not necessarily be a fatal one. A setback, to be sure, but way to early to be sounding the death knell.
I theorize that these guys coming out of college are overworked..
PeterS : 8/20/2014 11:38 am : link
they finish up their college season, maybe an all-star game or two and then go right to training for the combines. After the draft there are mini-camps, etc. and then camp.
Others have mentioned and I agree

First thing I think of is Sinorice Moss.
What in the world
Jerry in DC : 8/20/2014 12:03 pm : link
would make anyone think of Sinorice Moss? As far as WRs go, what at all do Sinorice Moss and Odell Beckham have in common?

How can people who follow the Giants closely enough to start an account on a message board make comments like this? It's really baffling.

Look, the guy is currently injured. This puts him in the same category as every other athlete ever, of guys who have gotten injured.

At some point he won't be injured. When he's not injured, he'll play football for the Giants. The time period for which he'll be injured is currently unknown. At some point it will be known. Just relax.
And when he is FINALLY ready,

it may take weeks before he and Eli are on the same page and have their timing down....could be all over by then, with this OL.....

I've seen one up close and rehabbed with a guy on my team who had a slight tear that simply got worse over time. The muscle tore in one small spot at the base of his hamstring and walking injured it further as more tears occurred.

This is a huge muscle that requires a lot of rest once injured, and no one's time table is the same. Strain, sprain, tear, whatever one chooses to call it, it's bad. When you hear "strain" you think pull and I think it's disingenuous to use the most innocuous diagnosis you can. It's a torn muscle no matter how anyone spins it.
Each time
natefit : 8/20/2014 3:59 pm : link
he re- aggravates it, more scar tissue forms rendering the area even less flexible. Of course there are wyas to break it down but its still less than optimal. He needs to sit till hes 100% however long it takes.
Regardless of the severity of the injury,
Section331 : 8/20/2014 4:07 pm : link
we've seen too often how this scene plays out. Rookie misses most, if not all, of preseason, and struggles to catch up during the season. Maybe has an impact in the last few games.

Let's hope Washington and Harris are the real deal. We're going to need them.
