Coughlin says Cooper Taylor needs surgery and injured reserve is "possibility"
Guy is always injured
dep026 : 8/20/2014 1:39 pm : link
and if Behre shows anything, Cooper will be lucky to make the team next year.
unfortunate
Bradshaw #44 : 8/20/2014 1:41 pm : link
the kid put a lot of work in during the offseason.. bulked up a few lbs. and I thought he was playing well during the preseason. Unfortunate for the kid.
Oooooooooooof course he does.

Nat Berhe, yer up.
He looked great in the 3 games thus far
NYGmen58 : 8/20/2014 1:47 pm : link
This is a blow.

No question we will carry 6 CBs now. I'm sure a guy like Bowman can play some safety in a pinch.
i guess i need to watch the games more closely,
DG : 8/20/2014 1:48 pm : link
because he hasn't really stood out to me.
Too bad.
Giantgator : 8/20/2014 1:53 pm : link
I was looking forward to some Cooper on Cooper crime vs. the Eagles.
we should have given Will Hill just one more chance

Huge blow
beatrixkiddo : 8/20/2014 2:02 pm : link
He really stepped up this year, hopefully he's a candidate for Temp. IR depending on recover times.

I think he has an important role in this defense in the future, he will be needed against the many tough. TE's we face in our division.
Rolle aside,
SHO'NUFF : 8/20/2014 2:03 pm : link
we have the worst luck with safeties... KP, Hill, Taylor, Chad Jones...

Agreed. Two years with nothing to show for playing time. Don't think we use short term IR on him. He's unproven in real games. Regular IR.
The defensive version of Sean Bennett

The Giants should cut
pjcas18 : 8/20/2014 2:22 pm : link
him with plans to IR him so the patriots can pick him up.
James will probably make the team now

Damn. He was looking good, too.

Heavy sigh.
I hope he recovers...
Chris in Philly : 8/20/2014 2:33 pm : link
and is ready to compete when healthy.

But we really overstate things around here, don't we? Losing Cooper Taylor is not a huge blow. Come on...
Chris, he would've most likely been our #3 safety.
Klaatu : 8/20/2014 2:37 pm : link
Losing him may not be "huge," but it's certainly significant.

I think it's a huge blow as far as another darft pick that showed promise not getting on the field. And draft picks have to contribute in order for a team to be successful now a days. Big picture.
Would suck to lose him for the year
Canton : 8/20/2014 2:43 pm : link
He was definitely coming on. We may need him during the season of we get hit with Injuries. Put him on the Temporary IR and cut Hosely altogether.
It's a shame,
TC : 8/20/2014 2:45 pm : link
he was progressing, and he still needs to develop. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns into IR.

And while he can't practice, he can work out. Could be even bigger and stronger for next season.
...
christian : 8/20/2014 2:51 pm : link
With the number of 3 safety looks we've employed in the past, losing the third safety is bad.

fixed
It hurts to lose...
Chris in Philly : 8/20/2014 2:59 pm : link
any player, but we are going to lose players, and it we're going to lose players, 3rd safety is squarely in the "Able to absorb the loss" category.
And I sure as hell..
Chris in Philly : 8/20/2014 3:00 pm : link
wouldn't use up our short term IR slot on him - we will likely have a much bigger need for that slot down the road.
CiP,

pick up Will Hill after he's cut?

Is it really? I hope Berhe is up to the task, because I doubt Demps is.

I give. Losing Cooper Taylor is the worst calamity that could have ever befallen this team.
Did I say that?
Klaatu : 8/20/2014 3:07 pm : link
Nope. I said losing Taylor was "significant." Lighten up, dude.

Spot the F on. I get why it's tempting to do this. He's had a great camp, but you can't use short term IR on a safety that's 4th on the depth chart.
I was noticing
Fish : 8/20/2014 3:17 pm : link
Him out there. Kid had potential. Big kid too. Get better fast.
Taylor has potential, but since he hasn't done
BeerFridge : 8/20/2014 3:18 pm : link
shit to date, it's hard to say we can't replace him. Demps and Berhe will have to be enough.
I look at the injuries over the last few years and can't help
Great White Ghost : 8/20/2014 4:30 pm : link
But remember TCs comments when he took the reigns about Injuries under Fassel.I wonder if he is more sympathetic now.
Unfortunate.
Red Dog : 8/20/2014 4:37 pm : link
This kid is definitely an NFL player, and very possibly a starter a little farther down the road, IF he can stay healthy. But he's got an injury history longer than both your arms.
what is the projected
xman : 8/20/2014 4:39 pm : link
recovery time for this injury?
If it is fractured, it likely going to be approx. 3 months...
Jimmy Googs : 8/20/2014 4:47 pm : link
is that what the extent of the injury is or have they not said yet?

I haven't seen the recovery time listed or noted anywhere?
SGMen : 8/20/2014 5:19 pm : link
But it wasn't like Tom Coughlin said he is definitely going to IR. I do think it is likely that he will go to IR though.
they have to prepare as if he
bc4life : 8/20/2014 5:21 pm : link
is going to IR. Maybe that means Berhe sticks?

12 weeks after surgery.
I
blue42 : 8/20/2014 9:25 pm : link
have seen nothing from Taylor to indicate he might be a starter....sorry he's hurt but Berhe has made more plays.
Taylor is credited with eleven tackles in the three preseason games...
Klaatu : 8/20/2014 11:47 pm : link
To go along with one INT and at least one pass attempt batted down that I can recall. Berhe has four tackles to his credit. How can you possibly say that Berhe made more plays than Taylor?
Players who are frequently injured early in their careers...
81_Great_Dane : 8/21/2014 2:02 am : link
... should be cut right away. After the player's suffered a couple of injuries, the team should always move on and make room for healthier players.

Sincerely,

Scott Brunner
If I am a safety
nyynyg : 8/21/2014 2:45 am : link
I would be starting to think that I would not want to be drafted by the Giants. We are on a bad streak for draft picks at that position.

I agree. Taylor would have been our #3 safety and would have been on the field quite a bit. Losing him is a blow to specials and to our defense. When you are as big and fast as cooper is you get playing time.
