Glauber Newsday: Tony Gonzalez: Broncos will go undefeated
"I've had teams ask me to come back and play for them,'' he said. "I won't name those teams, but I'm happily retired, so I'm not even thinking about it. I'm looking forward to getting to work with these guys from CBS.''
Gonzalez acknowledged he'd be tempted to consider returning if a contender called him late in the season. After all, the only thing missing from his resume is a Super Bowl championship.
"The temptation would be there, but I don't know what the gain would be,'' he said. "I've always wanted a ring. That's been my main goal as a player over the last 15 years of my career. You're really trying to get that ultimate goal.
"But I'd be a mercenary to come in and get a Super Bowl ring, play with a team for, what, six, seven weeks? And even if I got the ring, it wouldn't be the same as going through the fight with the team from the beginning to the end. I don't think that will happen. The temptation will be there, but I'm 100- percent happy with my decision.
"I was able to walk away from the game on my own terms. Not a lot of players get a chance to do that. I'm very fortunate to do that. I wouldn't want to go back on that good luck.''

beatrixkiddo : 8/21/2014 9:45 am : link
being a little far-fetched.

Cox has shown more than any other RB outside of Jennings and Williams, he is making this roster and would be a perfect 3rd down back from this group. I still think Hillis has a chance to make it though.

4 TE's? I don't think so. Donnell, Robinson, and Davis seem like who they will carry.

5 WR? I think 6 make it. Cruz, Randle, Beckham, JJ, Washington, Harris.

I would really like Wynn to make this team, he has shown promise as a rookie. Give him a few snaps against starters and see if he can get that same pressure. I think he should be kept for the lack of pass rush this front 4 has shown last year, could be decent insurance considering Moore is the only DE to show he can consistantly get in the backfield. If Wynn makes it, I think we will go with 4 DT. Patterson odd man out. Bromley has looked like he will make some solid contributions this year as a rotational player, and same with Kuhn.

Bennett over James, we already have 2 slot CB in Thurmond and Mcbride. We drafted Bennett for his potential, and size. He isn't going to last on our practice squad. I like James a lot, but perhaps he has a better chance at sticking on our practice squad than Bennett. With our Safety losses (Hill and Taylor, and Brown coming off an ACL) I think they would prefer somone who could jump in and play S as well for that 6th CB; Bennett is that guy.

I'm still not sure about McMannus and Brown, I personally would like to see McMannus get the job. He has promise, I'd like to see him try some long FG in this Jets game to decide.
If Cox can't block,

Washington is already on the team IMO. So is Harris. Last WR spot is between JJ and Parker.

We're not carrying 4 TEs. Robinson's "performance" against the Colts is close to guaranteeing him a spot. The rest? Who knows? Take any two. Any two. Or one, and get someone else off the waiver wire. That's how bad the situation is right now, which is really great for a new OC that likes to feature the TE. There is nothing to feature.

I'd like to keep Wynn. Not sure how, but I agree Patterson could be a surprise cut. Quarles is PS material, despite his boneheaded plays against the Colts. Don't see him getting on the 53 absent injuries.

How did he stick last year then? If anything, our backs were worse last year with Brown and Wilson for pass blocking than it is now with Jennings and Williams. I'm not saying he will make the team but if he has another year under his belt and he stuck this year you have to give him a chance to make it this year. Hillis hasn't done anything. We have two fullbacks that are just as athletic as Hillis, can block better and are healthy.

Cox has shown he can pick up the blitz really well, as well as make tough first downs on the screen. He's done it throughout the pre-season. Not to mention he brings a different style than any other RB on this roster. He also has ST experience. can return, and has done decent as lead blocker on ST.

Why are so many people down on Robinson at TE?
SGMen : 8/21/2014 12:20 pm : link
First and foremost, he was raw coming out of college and Reese knew that. He missed his rookie OTA's to finish college.

He has also had injury issues which isn't surprising given this is the NFL. He is essentially still learning the position. He has freakish physical ability and is a mis-match for most any LB. He showed well against the Colts and as Nassib put it it was Robinson who made "sight adjustments" on those two catches which shows he is developing an understanding of the position.

I truly believe he makes the 53 man roster and as he continues to learn Coughlin will use him more. It would be AWESOME for our offense if he developed into a pass catching TE for us this year. I believe he will as he has shown way better and reports are positive about him.

I am not disagreeing with your post. I actually feel the same way. However, the impression has been made by the media, coaches, and himself with interviews that he isn't ready. I say this because he comes across cocky. The reports written about him have not been flattering and while he has made plays he has also not done enough and started the year out as last on the depth chart. Also, listening to guys like Gilbride it seems that he has A LOT to learn.

I hope it clicks for him but I understand why people are down on him.

I totally agree and I pray you are correct. TC will absolutely find a way to keep Harris AND Washington and I pray JR finds the wisdom to bring in another O lineman.

I also don't think we keep 4 TEs. If none standout, why keep 4. We may upgrade this unit through waivers as well.

Your kidding, right? Has hasn't done anything for years, and after 2 late catches against the 3rd string Colts who let him run down the middle of the field untouched, you decide he is a mis-match against most NFL LBs?

Watch him block...watch him at the snap when he doesn't know what to do or where to go.

His competition this summer was as poor as there is in this league and he underwhelmed all summer.

That are mediocre at best, sounds ludicrous to me.

Hynoski as an all purpose back sounds interesting though.

I haven't been able to see much preseason so I don't know anything about Wynn. Anybody care to opine?
