NFT: I love DirecTV

buford : 8/21/2014 12:54 pm
We called DTV to cancel the sports package we had (since YES no longer shows the Francesca show). While we were on the phone, the person remarked that we had been with DTV for 18 years. So she gave us the Sunday Ticket for $35! We've never tried the whole 'I'm going to cancel, unless you give me Sunday Ticket for free' thing, and it's nice to see a company reward a loyal customer without making us grovel.
3 months and 6 days until I'm DirecTV free!!

week and asked for the retention department and ended up getting the Full NFL Ticket for free. It's the first time they ever gave it to me for free and I did not have to go through 5 calls to get it.
Also have had it since it was launched- I need to call them for a deal

Remember when all the movies were separated from the regular DTV shows on that USSB set-up?
Been with them for

14 years. Had difficult time this year getting a discount on Sunday ticket. After threating to cancel and the CSR saying O.K. to me canceling I asked if the can do anyting else for me. It turns out with free HBO/Shwotime for 3 months 5 bucks off of sports package and other stuff, they are actually paying me like 30 dollars afrter all the discounts to have the Sunday ticket.akes no sense. But Ill take it. I originally only asked for the Basic Sunday ticket and was turned down and now I have the full ticket. I'm thinking it's a numbers game and they have to show that people are paying for it. Like Rob peter to pay Paul. So if anyone calls and they are not giving you a big enough discount on the actual ticket, try asking for other discounts that will offset the price of the ticket.
I called to cancel this year
pjcas18 : 8/21/2014 1:09 pm : link
no BS, legit I was canceling, I already have FiOS TV in my house for a variety of reasons, and was sick of the DTV bills. I had a $240 early term fee I was prepared to pay.

last second the retention person came back with free Sunday ticket, $50 per month off my bill for a year. and two $10 per month credits one for HBO and one for showtime for a year, so 70 off my bill and free ST.

got by bill under $100.

I swear though after the season I am definitely cancelling because I won't have the early term fee or a contract for that matter.
most companies will throw in
UConn4523 : 8/21/2014 1:11 pm : link
if you call to cancel. Dish service is just too unreliable for me. would rather pay more and never have the TV go out. Was just in Florida and our hotel had DTV that went out daily during regular rain storms.
I know I'm tempting
pjcas18 : 8/21/2014 1:15 pm : link
fate here, but through blizzards and hurricanes the only thing I've ever lost is the HD channels - you can easily switch to SD, which makes you appreciate HD even more, but it's better than nothing.

still canceling after the season.
I don't remember the movies being separate
buford : 8/21/2014 1:16 pm : link
I remember when you couldn't get the network stations and we had to have cable as well as DTV. Our first receiver cost over $700. And we had the dish inside our patio door and it still worked! The best was when we moved, we took the dish and receiver in the car with us and were able to get it up and working the next day. The people next door waited 2 months for cable.

It does go out now and then. It's like an early warning for a bad rainfall.
I just called yesterday to legit cancel as well
knicks3031 : 8/21/2014 1:25 pm : link
I'm out of contract and I already have internet with Optimum and just wanted to do their triple play... ended up getting $30 off my bill for 12 months, showtime free for 4 months, and Sunday Ticket Max for free if I signed a 1 year contract, which I was fine with doing.

Worked out pretty well

I posted a few weeks back that the best i was getting from the first layer was 3 payments of 75 or something, even when i legitimately scaled back my package during the call, and said i heard other folks were getting it free with a 1 year reup and id be interested in that...but id been at work and couldnt really get animated or anything. So saturday around 11 after i had had a few beers i said alright lets just call up and say cancel me. So the prompt asks you why youre calling. Cancellation. Send me to the first layer. Asks why. I say well the only thing that sets you apart is sun ticket and if i cant get what other folks are getting then just go ahead and cancel me. She makes a pitch that wasnt anything worth mentioning and i played the card. No thats ok, you can just disconnect me. So she sends me to the next layer, i play the same unfair youre giving the guys on the giants message board this token of appreciation but not me, hows that fair? So she says if i give you a 100 dollar visa gift card and comp you the sunday ticket in ecxh for a 1 year service agreement would you stay? Sure will. Nice lady. FTR I wasnt a dick nor did i raise my voice. Thats not really me. So we hung up i smoked a cigar in my hot tub while watching the rest of whatever game was on like i was scarface then went to bed.
Is it really that awful?
BH28 : 8/21/2014 3:57 pm : link
I just signed up for it the other day. I'm pumped, for the first time in 15 years I don't have to find a friggen bar to watch the games that aren't televised in my area.
I need to call back again
GMenLTS : 8/21/2014 4:00 pm : link
I'm only at 30 bucks for month 6 months for ST + Max, and no other extras given yet

If everyone's getting damn near free, I want in.

The service is fine, very good in fact, customer service is great, just expensive.

and for me I have FiOS in the house already because my company pays for the triple play from Verizon, so it just wasn't worth it.

I actually think the service is better than FiOS, at least down here in Dallas. I already had them cancel the Sunday Ticket, but now they are emailing me trying to get me to come back, but at full price of course. Unfortunately I am still under contract so I have to figure out my strategy once the season starts to try and get Sunday Ticket at the cheap rate.
I'm about to call
Stan from LA : 8/21/2014 5:33 pm : link
Got a ton of discounts last year at this time($400) but they would not budge on ST so I skipped it. The discounts are almost all expired and my contract goes out in 2 months so I need to decide how greedy I want to be. 14 year customer, get extra innings every year at full price and always have a movie package or 2.

What's fair?

knicks3031 : 8/21/2014 6:45 pm : link
Get Sunday Ticket Max for free and say you will re-up with them for 1 year. At the minimum, that would be fair
I am out of contract and
Rick5 : 8/21/2014 8:03 pm : link
was going to call to see what they would do for me with the intention of keeping DTV regardless. The more I have read these posts and thought about, I am actually really going to cancel if I don't get it for free or drastically discounted. There is a Giants bar just a few miles from my house. Given the games already on local/national TV, I think it would actually be cheaper for me to start going back to the bar (which I kind of miss anyway since getting the ticket in '09).
I am down in Raleigh, NC

it pains me to say but I elected to go with TWC and not DirectTV, the thought of being locked in with that company was too much to bear. So right now I am watching the pre-season games the day after and distressed about possibly missing a couple of games live...which is a big change from being at the stadium for the games.

On the good side, no DirectTV and lots of what appear to be televised and national games for the Giants.

If you can't commit to 2 years of TV, I hope you're single.
You guys did better then me

I got $20 off my monthly bill for 12 months,

$160 for the standard Sunday Ticket

1 free box upgrades

2 year commitment

Woo Hoo!
Rick5 : 8/23/2014 11:24 am : link
I came armed with a (very good) bundle deal from my current phone and internet provider (Cox.

Results:
Free NFL Sunday Ticket for 2014
$25 off my bill for the next year.
Free Showtime for 4 months.
1 year commitment.

They offered all of this immediately. No negotiation needed. So happy.

MookGiants : 8/23/2014 11:31 am : link
hit the threshold for credits and they won't give me anything for at least 6 months, computer won't allow them to do anything, there's a flag on the account for too much credits in the last 2 years. I can't complain, they have treated me very very well over the years and I have no problem paying the full price this year and then 6 months from now my credit thing will reset according to the supervisor i spoke with in finance department. I had heard of them doing this before but it seems they are doing it a bit more this year, maybe because of DirecTV being sold soon
Mook, if you didn't get a deal
Stan from LA : 8/26/2014 7:07 pm : link
They must be playing hardball. I always thought the too many credits stuff was an excuse, but if you can't get around it, it doesn't look good for me who has also had a ton of credits over the last few years.
Stan
MookGiants : 8/26/2014 7:42 pm : link
it seems to be fairly random who they flag and when they do it, this year hasnt been even close to the most ive gotten in credits pver the last deacde. Few yes ago i must have had 800 in credits for the year
