This morning, Greenburg and Chris Carter flipped through the Vegas under/over odds for every NFL team. They shared their predictions for the four teams' odds with which they were most comfortable. Of all 32 teams, they decided to make predictions for the following teams:
49ers Under 10.5
Eagles Over 9
Pittsburg Under 8.5
Giants Under 8
They both agreed that the Giants' offense has looked terrible this preseason (I think we all can agree here). They acknowledged that it make take a few weeks for the team to fully implement the new offense, though at the same time, if the offense doesn't get going until week 6, we may be in the same position we were last year-- on the outside looking in.
My immediate emotional reaction was to explode, disagree, call them idiots and move on thinking the Giants might snag ten wins somehow. While I still think that's possible (with much improvement), I'm now thinking I can't argue with their prediction. We've looked dreadful and the regular season is just two weeks away. Thus far, the Giants have looked like a 6 or 7 win team. Hoping they show us more tonight against the Jets.
Thoughts? Reactions? Rants?
will prevail.. we may have close games at
1st...but we have players
and then pay the over as a hopeful fan while realizing it might not be the smartest trade.
That seems very far off to me.
That seems very far off to me.
That makes no sense. How many 65+ yard TD's does he have?
(Going by memory) I think 4 of the first 6 games are against teams that had losing records last year. If they can come out of that with some wins until the offense gets in gear then they might do some damage in the second half of the season.
I agree with taking the under on the Giants though.
2. Defense. Even with the injury to Cooper Taylor and the loss of Will Hill (both HUGE blows) I still like this secondary and LB corps. I also think Moore & Hankins will contribute and Kuhn will be better than most think. Kiwi looks revitalized, Ayers is a solid veteran and JPP is finally healthy. This defense could be solid, top 10.
3. Special Teams. I think we'll surprise on specials and be a top 10 unit.
4. Run the ball well and throw short well to Jennings, Cruz and hopefully TE Donnell. We have to run the ball well to tae the pressure off Eli.
If we win turnover battles, run the ball well, throw short well and play solid defense and specials we'll win close games.
Lets face it folks, we had some bad luck with Chris Snee and David Wilson (speed) retiring and losing DB's Will Hill and Cooper Taylor. It is football and we have to hope others step up.
August team performance means next to nothing
That's the "easy way out" by basing 2 of their picks off of the last game they just watched. If they were asked this same question yesterday I can almost guarantee neither of those teams would have been picked by them.
If we play "pretty well" I could find 5 wins outside the division. But an 8 for over/under is not unrealistic.
Eli is a year older and coming off his worst season and a serious injury, while also trying to learn a new system. The RBs are new. The OC is new. There is no starting caliber TE yet.
Cruz is a receiver who needs to have that YAC guy on the field to help him. Beckham is supposed to be that guy, as is Randle. Jernigan is small and really nothing more than Cruz lite. Let's see what they have in the two young guys on the bubble.
The line is the definition of "In transition." Pugh may be a Pro Bowl guard playing out of position. Schwartz is a right guard playing on the left. Beatty is ____--well that is the question? Mosley is another guy drafted by JR on measurables. Still has not translated onto play on the field. Ditto for Brewer. The center is attempting to come back from serious injuries. The rest are journeymen.
Obviously the defense is better, but let's see when the season starts. The excitement on the defense is around the young guys who are starting to develop and the vets who may be regaining their form.
I love the Giants and look forward to their progress but just cannot see how these projections for an 8-8 season are unfair. They may actually be optimistic.
I'm a bit gun shy based on last year's performance. We all should be but a lot went wrong last year. We will see if they can right the ship. I believe they can. It may not be pretty but you don't have to be pretty to win 10 games. You just have to survive and make some plays in the 4th quarter. Don't lose games. You'd be surprised how many shaky teams find ways to sneak through a season. The giants talent base is far from terrible. Most teams have a shot right now. Giants included.
I've seen worse teams win ten games. You can't convince me otherwise.
Just about every team has a shot right now. That includes the giants. Get outta the gates and hit a few big plays in Detroit-- maybe a sack forced fumble early on stafford-- and away we go.
You're never as good or bad as one might think. I see a whole lot of blanket statements and absolutes thrown around. I don't buy all of it. I buy some of it-- this team is challenged in some spots no doubt... But it can most definitely compete.
That seems very far off to me.
Mmmm okay Mr Carter, Cruz isn't a YAC guy, sure sure!!! Thank arcarsenal for the GIF!!

i'd also bet on the steelers to win more games...i trust those teams. if they were to let me down so be it. history shows both teams are relatively reliable.
