...it is already a good movie and can be watched in it's original form. It is not like the message has lost it's meaning or the movie is so old it needs a technological upgrade.
I was born in the early 80s, so while I have personal memories of the time, I wasn't too culturally aware. So when I see stuff like this, I'm amazed that we ever survived such a period. 'Give me tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime...
Where Corky St Clair asks the town council for $100,000 in order to make the play -- and the entire town's budget for the whole year is $15,000, which includes the pool. "I'm not gonna have any swimming in the play."
That I enjoyed but appear to be underrated are John Turturro's "Mac" and "Things Change" with Don Ameche and Joe Mantegna. I don't know if any particular scene jumps out to me though.
As far as a scene that I liked that you don't often hear referenced was the Boogie Nights Sister Christian Scene
Starring Clive Owens, Julia Roberts, Jude Law, and Natalie Portman. It got nominated for a lot of awards but I find that not many people have seen it.
Anyway, its one of my favorite movies and definitely underrated. One of the best scenes is when Owens discovers that Roberts has been screwing Jude Law and confronts her about it. I just liked the rawness of that scene, and its one of the rare times you get to see Julia Roberts on film present herself as a completely fucked in the head bitch.
and thanks to Viveca Lindfors the last scene was terrific.
one of the best scenes in the sure thing was when Cusack sticks his head out the window and says to the cop "driving with a load not properly tied down".

A lot will hate it, but some will love it. Haven't seen much in between as far as opinions go on this movie.

Plus, it's got Patrick Swayze in it, so you know it's good.
