the number of people that claim to be doing this to raise "ASL" awareness, or the ones that don't tell you anything about the disease and probably don't even know what it is themselves before they post videos of themselves doing the challenge.
Who cares if people do not know much about the disease...this Challenge is generating tons of money and awareness who cares if there is people who do not know anything about the disease...it is still working for a good cause..

" A charity stunt that has grown into a social media phenomenon went terribly wrong for four Kentucky firefighters who were injured when a fire truck's ladder got too close to a power line after they dumped water on college students who were taking part in an "ice bucket challenge.""
"the two [firefighters] in the bucket are at a hospital burn unit. One is in critical condition and the other is in fair condition. The other firefighters were treated and released." Link - ( New Window )
but what does raising awareness actually do? The money, I get. But has anyone been helped by the "awareness raising" aspect of this? Or is it like hashtag support, a kind of echo amongst a certain group who can then feel good about themselves?
For some things, like, unknown victims of some kind of social practices, raising awareness does a lot. But for ALS, don't we all know it exists? If not, if we now do, what difference does it make?
I'm happy to be educated on this. These are my prima facie thoughts.
