Alex Boone

what is the status on him now?

I think we need to trade for him. He'll take a few weeks to get ready...but the Giants need him. Thoughts?

49ers don't want to trade him, and are apparently only willing to do so for a first or second. No.
why no?
phil fromphilly : 8/22/2014 10:48 pm : link
If Schwartz is out for the first few weeks why not? A proven starter in his prime for a 2? Done! Do you remember the offensive line last year? You ready to watch that kind of football again? Not me! Pull the trigger now!
at this point

I would give up a 3rd. He can solve alot of problems on the oline. Pro=bowl potential player who can play guard or tackle.
Contract
ij_reilly : 8/22/2014 10:54 pm : link
The issue isn't the player (Boone), it's the contract. He wants big money. There is money already tied up in Schwartz. If the Giants like Mosely, signing Boone doesn't make $ense. If they don't like Mosely, the contract might not look so bad.
the Giants have money to spend
Andy in Boston : 8/22/2014 10:55 pm : link
no question about that.
I'm not interested in watching an offensive line
Andy in Boston : 8/22/2014 10:56 pm : link
similar to last year.
Its the guards that are the concern. Richburg will be a player...but everyone other guard on this team is a huge question mark.
In the past I'd say no

but years of bad drafting have put them in a precarious position. If history is any indicator, Jerry and Marc will likely blow next years 2nd and 3rd round picks on guys who never pan out. Better to trade for someone who is actually proven.
I hope the Giants look into this seriously

They need to protect Eli to have any chance of winning.
Do the Giants have

the cap space to make Boone a realistic offer?
Reese can fix this mess with the Oline right now..
prdave73 : 8/23/2014 12:30 am : link
Boone would be one direction He can take in order to get this Oline in the right direction. I'm all for going all out for him if possible.

I got chastised on this retard filled site for saying trade for Boone and cut Schwartz- at least save some cap.

Yes. I'm sure that's all you got chastised for.

Everything out there says the San Fran isnt interested in trading for him. Which is probably code for, "The price for him will be astronomical."

So, what is all out for you? A first or second round pick?

No thank you.
Not a fan of trading premium picks
j_rud : 8/23/2014 4:52 am : link
and I would've been against it just 12 hours ago but now my opinion hinges on this Schwartz MRI. Worst case scenario and he's shelved for the season what other options are there? You can't put Eli behind that line, they haven't exactly looked great to begin with, and there's no depth. They really may end up over a barrel here.

It really comes down to whether you think the Giants are a piece or two away and that a quality, versatile lineman can help get them into the playoff hunt. The Winners supposedly want at least a second. They may want more if he's staying in the conference. IMO they're more than one very good swingman away from contending. They can give a 2nd for Boone only to see the team limp to a five win season. Now you're talking about starting a full rebuild minus one of your 2 premium picks.

Situation is a mess and may very well ruin the season if not get Eli killed.

Could recent history be more of an indicator? Hankins and Moore seem to be panning out. So do Richburg and Bromley.
No,
Doomster : 8/23/2014 8:24 am : link
first Schwartz was a proven starter, also...how did he look?

Second, this guy wants big money.....

We will be looking for someone who is cut, that we can get at bargain basement prices....possibly more than one or two....we need help with the Oline, and if lucky, can find a TE....
The lesson to be learned
gersh : 8/23/2014 8:58 am : link
Is that draft picks are valuable. Richburg showed us that last night.
Giving up a valuable pick + money is not how you re-build your team.
Yes, we would be better right now, but it's not a smart football decision. They have already over-paid Beatty and Schwartz and Boone wants top Guard money.
Now the Niners have the Giants over a barrel
jeff57 : 8/23/2014 9:06 am : link
I'd still give up nothing higher than 2 three's.
gersh +1
JonC : 8/23/2014 9:19 am : link
If they think Boone's a tackle and can negotiate a favorable contract, for a #4 pick? I'm in. Otherwise, no, you have to have an overall sense of things and spending richer than that shades to overspending.
Maybe Eli should consider

his own health and give back enough $ to sign a good guard.

If the Giants really wanted him the money wouldn't be an issue. According to the latest league salary report, which is released several times daily and was last updated at 6am, they are nearly 10 mill under the cap.
